In 2013 the world was devastated by an apocalyptic event, annihilating almost all mankind and turning the Earth's surface into a poisonous wasteland. A handful of survivors took refuge in the depths of the Moscow underground, and human civilization entered a new Dark Age. The year is 2033.

Metro 2033 Redux simply doesn't hold up to modern gameplay standards. If i could i would rate it between good and bad, i would, but I am swaying more towards the negative side. Gunplay is good, but i can't get over the movement and enemies. If you are fond of older games and don't mind some clunkiness, this is worth it. I returned to this game, after having finished the original (non redux) version more than 10 years ago. But sadly it does not live up to its nostalgia. Maybe the problem is not the core game, but the redux upgrade. It seems like they tried to upgrade the game with all the good stuff from the engine used for last light, without actually having the levels properly support it. It graphically feels way too light and polished for what i remember as a gritty and dark experience. Having read the 3 metro novels, I had hoped the game would be somewhat similar to the stories. Of course the book Artyom is a lot more passive and it contains much less gunfights. Thy ending does not really portray the impact the dark ones has on Artyom. All throughout the game we see them as the bad guys and only in a remark from the final cutscene do we get a glimpse of the regret Artyom feels, while book Artyom seconded guesses his choice all the way till the end. In my opinion, its worth it to just watch a lore video and start at Metro Last Light.
