pros + high quality and detailed 3 D graphics and character models + Max and Lara are likeable protagonists + when you click to question mark, hotspots is highlighted. No need to hunt for pixels. + intriguing murder story. You initially start to investigate a theft at a local art gallery, but Max soon disappears under mysterious circumstances, and his disappearance is linked to a disturbing ritualistic murder crime that has taken place in a San Francisco church. When she started to work on this case, a mystery and conspiracy behind it started unraveling, and it puts her in even greater danger. + well integrated, nice variety, complex and challenging many puzzles + there are moments where you’re faced with a key decision that can change the outcome of the story + there are two endings + main characters voice acting are mostly decent + there are steam achievements + there are plenty of different, good-looking and atmospheric places including South Africa, Finland and the USA + game is quite long. there are 7 chapters + there is a auto save cons - buggy and glitchy gameplay - The game's story is intriguing in the beginning, but it becomes increasingly convoluted towards the end, and due to the lack of cohesiveness and focus in the story and the frequent puzzle solving, it becomes way too hard to follow. what happened to Max is also quite unexplained and blurry in the end. the story also tied in some cliché supernatural crap in the end, which I found quite cheesy - extremely linear puzzle-solving process and gameplay. when you fail to do something in the right direction or don't do it exactly or in a particular way, you will be stuck. - forgettable soundtrack - As an adventure game, this one is quite lengthy, but it is also padded out with too many tedious puzzles, and most of the time, it just drags on. after a while, this game's narrative becomes secondary to puzzles, some adventure-game-style tasks that you must complete in order to progress and some tedious investigative sections, which makes the game quite boring. - this game is quite inconsistent in a technical sense, and it has terrible audio production. voiceovers are not the same all the time, character clothing is random in cutscenes, subtitles and voiceovers sometimes don't match with each other. - the game is mostly slow-paced, and after a while, it can get quite tedious. - the majority of documents are tedious to read - english translation poorly made - character animation looks stilted - some bad voice acting from side characters - no cards Overall, this is a good adventure and puzzle game with an interesting story, but towards the end, it becomes tedious due to frustrating puzzles, lack of focus the narrative and slow-paced gameplay. Memento Mori 2 is one of the adventure games I abandoned without finishing because playing this game felt like a chore and a waste of time after a while but for the sake of story, I watched the rest of the game on YouTube.
I liked the original Memento Mori, it had a certain charm to it. Larisa Svetlova, the female co-lead had a certain way of talking/behaving that i liked. Max, the 2nd protagonist voice actor wasnt that great but you got used to it. To both of them. And after the end of MM1 when Larissa saves Max from commiting suicide and they both return to France I was looking forward to continue their story. Well, Memento Mori 2 has replaced the voiceover actors of both characters, making them rather bland and stereotypical. (apparently they got married) The graphics are great and the setting in Africa is cool, but without the characters I came to like it's just not worth playing it.
Trying to play MM2 after install it said "Nvidia PhysX library not found" I had to go into the files to 'repair' it, and then restart my pc before I could play it. file here- \Steam\steamapps\common\Memento Mori 2\_CommonRedist\PhysX
You HAVE to repair it then restart your pc before it will work!
Looking at discussions there seems to be a few fixes you can do for this, but the above worked for me!
MM2 is NOT worth 25$ USD/ 28$ CAD
Seeing the price tag I definitely waited to get it on sale for 5$ and I can say that maybe 10$ is fair for the game, especially being a 10 year old game with bugs and issues it has. It IS a longer point and click adventure game, which is kind of nice and why I say maybe worth 10$. I would've refunded the game, but I had it past the 2 week mark, I'm bad for doing that. I will add I have a brand new PC, so maybe that's why I had some issues, I'm not sure.
Onto the Review.
Lara is Russian, and Max is French. I liked in the first game how they spoke with accents and I found it well done, but in this game it was just english voice acting. This game has achievements and different endings, which requires you to 'replay' to get them, and honestly I'm not going to do that because I genuinely do not want to play this game again. After playing Memento Mori I got MM2 to see how the game would end. MM2 had me hooked at the beginning for a bit, until Act 3, when I got bored and I just got to the point to where I played the game for the achievements and just to get it over with. Unlike MM where the beginning was boring but the gamed got me hooked later on. I had the game crash 5 times on me randomly, for random reasons. I was waiting to see the "final" scene in the game and the game crashed because of some "texture" error. So that was the worse place it crashed for me, and I'm not going to reload and do a bunch of stuff again just to see the ending. The game had a lot of issues loading, like trying to get into the church the game struggled trying to load that. Sometimes would get stuck on loading screen and I had to go into Task Manager and force close. I had to do multiple restarts between the crashing and game freezing while trying to load next areas. I also had issues with the game sometimes freezing while I tried to get to main menu to save. I can say I had the same issue as the first game where characters would glitch out and walk across rooms (opposite side of puzzles) and go complete them and same with turning off/on lights. I noticed in a lot of areas that the volume and tone of voice acting would change, like Lara at some points would sound robotic a lower than others. At the end when Keira was talking I couldn't hear her because her voice was so low, but I couldn't turn up volume to hear her because Max's voice would've been too loud. So there was quite a few sound glitches with the voices. I had a lot of issues trying to move into different areas/screens, let's say in Lara's home for example I would get the green arrow to go on the balcony I'd move to balcony, and then I would go back inside do some stuff then try to go back onto the balcony... But instead of being a green arrow it was a white or blank arrow and I couldn't get her to move close enough to get the green arrow to show for her to move. It was like that in a LOT Of areas in the game. Sometimes going to menu then going back would "fix" the scene so I could move on. Sometimes I had to quit the game and restart for scene to "fix" so I could move on.
Two puzzles I found to be really irritating and unnecessary in the game-
There's a scene in the museum where I need to dismantle the window-
The lady at the desk tells you that you can't do that, fusses at you, but alas! When you give her the box of 'expensive' chocolates she changes her tone and absolutely INSISTS that you dismantle the window!
I don't know if they were trying to be funny with that scene but it could've gone without it. Act 3- The "forklift puzzle"
I genuinely felt like it was there to just fill in some time, because the devs didn't know what to do and went on longer than necessary. This was the one puzzle that got on my nerves and I just sat there thinking "why does this even exist?" This puzzle wasn't needed to go on for as long as it did.

Final Thoughts
Honestly, I'm kind of sad that I don't have many positives to say about the game other than the gameplay is long compared to a lot of games in this genre. I had too many issues and the story in this one bored me compared to the first one. It's decent for what it is, and at least it was a continuation from the first game, a lot of games like these normally don't get a second game to finish the series off. Some puzzles were more challenging, but a couple of them were obnoxiously done. I had to save and save frequently because of the crashes and freezes, and issues with some puzzles and screen transitions. For the price tag on a 10 year old game, it's a bit much, especially with all the issues it has. There's much better games out there that are much older and run a lot better than this. For the price tag of MM2 you can get 3-4 games in the Blackwell series at full price, which I can highly recommend! I also recommend looking into The Secret Files series mainly Tunguska and Puritas Cordis which are 10$ each. I also recommend The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav and The Dark Eye Memoria when those are on sale.
We accompany Lara on in her honeymoon (those, who played Memento Mori, the first game, will know, that she and Max had found together) and as usual for detectives, there is a case. Two valuable artifacts are stolen from a museum. Though Max still suffers from nightmares, Lara let him take the leading part in the investigation. They find out a lot - and then it happens: an accidetnt and Max is gone. Is he dead or what ? From now on, we play as Lara and solve mysterious murders in various countries. All deads have one in common: they seem cruel and all corpses are marked with sort of glyphs. Ritual murders ? I won't say more to not spoil the story, which I liked much. A lot of puzzles await us as well, some are rather time consuming or tricky to solve. Not really necessary - more a minus in an otherwise really good game. Still, I can for sure recommend this game!
Game is glitchy, uses old Direct3D libraries/etc. and sometimes refuses to load video files due to "not enough memory."
