When I tried this game for the first time on console, I bounced off it pretty hard. I could not even get past the early mission with Fallen Venom, and I assumed the game just was not for me. After giving it another chance on PC, I ended up finishing the story and genuinely enjoying it far more than I expected. What surprised me most is that Midnight Suns is not just a strategy game. The combat is tactical and card-based, but there is a lot more to it than that. The Abbey exploration reminded me of the Krypt from Mortal Kombat 11, with secrets to uncover, lore to find, and little mysteries that made me want to keep looking around. Playing as the Hunter also worked really well because you are not just controlling a random custom character. You are uncovering your own backstory piece by piece, which made the journey feel personal. The character bonding was probably the biggest surprise. I ended up caring about characters I never expected to care about. Robbie Reyes went from being one of my least interesting Ghost Riders to feeling like one of my best friends in that world. Wanda was written with a lot of warmth and sadness, and I genuinely found myself wanting to spend more time with her. The game does a great job making the heroes feel like people living together under pressure, not just Marvel characters waiting for the next fight. The combat also became much more satisfying once I understood how to build decks properly. Characters I liked became absolute powerhouses once I kitted them out to suit my playstyle, and landing the right combo or clearing a room with chain reactions felt brilliant. It is not a perfect game, and I understand why the card system might put some people off at first. But once it clicked, I found a much deeper RPG than I expected. The story, the friendships, the exploration, and the darker supernatural side of Marvel all worked together far better than I thought they would. By the end, I wanted more. The post-credit scene with Doctor Doom and the Darkhold made me hope we eventually get a sequel, because this world still has so much potential. I went from being unsure about Midnight Suns to genuinely loving it. I am glad I gave it a second chance.
Offline play is finite.
♥♥♥♥ Denuvo and 2k Games
Denuvo 14 day check in ew. May this be the downfall of 2K. But other then that good game shame we won't a second one. :(
Fun, if slightly campy, experience. Has some of the best character renditions in Marvel media (is portal!). Definitely worth trying if you like tactical turn-based games or Marvel.
F*** you 2K Games for making me to connect to the Internet to play a Offline game. Don't buy it.
If they re released this game without requiring friendships, hangouts, gifting, and tighten up the story, I may play 400 hours. The gameplay and core base buildings great like all x-com. They really took a dump on the sim aspects.
Amazing game and highly replayble. Comparable to X-Com with a fully fleshed out story and characters. Basically as close to playing an in-universe comic book event as you're gonna get as of 2026. This game was made with love and it shows in the details.
So much about this game hits, but overall the story stuff really drags, to the point I have a hard time enjoying it. There is a great combat system here, and I can tolerate some Marvel shenanigans, but if you are going to make me sit through this much cringe writing I'm sorry I just can't do it.
