It's a fun game. You get to be a shark. You get to swim around, eat things, evolve, and the story is amusing. Is it an amazing game? Nah. but not all games need to be. I don't know that it's worth $40 without the DLC. The main game is pretty fun, though you get level locked at 30 until you finish the main story and go into the DLC (IF you have the DLC) which is mildly frustrating. If both are on sale, you might as well get them both, though the DLC is a slight disappointment. As far as technical... this game does have crash issues. It can freeze my entire computer at times, especially if i dare to have discord up at the same time. I DO want to see more games like this. I think that flying and swimming games (and I don't mean survival games like subnautica) are an avenue that is ripe for game development. And who doesn't want to be a shark? So summary: Worth 40? Eh. No. Is it fun? Yeah. Is it a good game? Sure Is it a great game? No Do you get to eat people and cackle while you do it? Yes.
I played for nearly two hours, and the game crashed more than six times. I tried different settings (Ingame, Nvidia, ...), but nothing worked. My PC specs are more than sufficient, so that wasn't the issue. Since the game wasn´t just released a few days ago and there haven't been any updates for quite some time, I'm not willing to accept one or two crashes every 20 minutes, so I decided to refund it. I wish I could say something about the gameplay because it might actually be good, but I can't. I spent most of my time dealing with crashes and trying to troubleshoot the game instead of actually playing it.

Play as shark in pretty well done game. Fun collectibles, fun game to turn brain down and have some fun. Also being a shark is fun even if it's depiction as a violent monster is ridiculous.
