A good story with good characters, but unfortunately the gameplay loop is repetitive and gets boring by the time you've been introduced to the underbosses. In my opinion the game felt more like a GTA clone than a Mafia game. The cars look great, and I enjoyed the customization options and the races. There are quite a few bugs, though none of the ones I experienced were gamebreaking. A lot of achievements are bugged, mainly the ones with counters, or at least that's what I read online. I've seen a lot of people talking about the game crashing. That never happened for me, but it's probabbly something to be aware of before going into the game. The game is sort of playable with an ultrawide monitor, but expect flickering here and there, clipping during in-game cutscenes, and a very small (or ridiculously stretched out) screen during pre-recorded cutscenes. In some cutscenes you'll be shown photos, and I could barely make out what they were depicting because of how stretched out they were. The worst was the UI however, as it stays in the middle of the screen (where the game decides your screen borders are), and when looking at the map I had to guess "where" the buttons were on the left third of my screen, because the buttons aren't where the text is. The underbosses are interesting once you get to know them, but unfortunately the only way to do that is to suffer through their side missions, most (if not all) of which are fetch quests. The ending I chose made
Burke rule the city, and considering what he tells you after you complete his side missions, the decision he made felt a bit like a slap in the face
. Seeing Vito again was fun. I wish there had been a little more time spent with Lincoln's friends and family before the plot set in so that I could've gotten to know and care for them before
Giorgi's betrayal
. The DLCs are less repetitive than the main game, and gameplay-wise I prefer them over the main campaign. While I personally enjoyed the game, I feel the need to add a big "but" whenever I tell anyone about it, so with Steam's black-and-white "Do you recommend this game?" system I'll have to give it a thumbs down. Get it on sale if you want the game.
It's underrated. While it isn't as good as the other Mafia games, it's still worth playing.
Great game, but if you want to get 100% its ridiculous. Achievements with a numeric value get reset if the game crashes or if you close it like a normal person, so getting the 300 takedowns was an unbelievable pain and took me over an hour and a half of just grinding the same mission and reloading the checkpoint, while praying my game doesn't crash during it. This also means if you want to do 100 stealth takedowns you have to do it in one session. I'm not putting myself through that. It's a shame that this patch doesn't work 100% and they decided to release another game instead of fixing it, but fyi patch 1.09 works correctly but you'd have to restart your save, and I don't feel like doing that because I'm 26 odd hours into the game. Although the achievement aspect is a bummer, the game is still amazing.
Buggy, overly repetitive gameplay, boring world, and simply not a Mafia game.
A legendary game that was not understood by children who played it for 5 minutes without even going through the prologue, were criticized for a few bugs and grinds that are literally in every game, not understanding the plot and the main goal of the game that the author wanted to convey to people, they wrote 27k negative reviews about the game, which in my opinion is even better than the 1-2 parts of the game. And even more than that, the amount of content and the variability of the game's endings simply amazed me. To everyone who went through it to the end and was satisfied, my respect.
