If you love model railroading then you will love LOCO. It is very early in development but has great potential. Great art style and alot of attention to physics such as momentum and inertia. I eagerly await future additions and updates and plan to follow this until full release and beyond!
Update 7 May 2022 The game hasn't had an update for over a year and if you are considering purchasing it you should take this into consideration. The game did receive some updates since my review some of which can be seen in this later video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVGTgqz1czw&t=2102s The game is unfinished though and at present looks to remain so. It has multiple issues that were never addressed and may never be some of which make it hard to play. The track is terrible and the addition of hills into the game make it ever more difficult to lay sometimes making it impossible where the track is being lay'ed. There are no passenger carriages it should also be noted. But the final update was the worst making removing objects near impossible and this was what finally turned my review from a thumbs up to a thumbs down. The core of the game... the idea was good but the implementation just didn't ever get to where it needed to be. I have reviews for various train games and if you need inspiration go take look. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLd_0BXn5xxdEnGxc9X2dbzfZZOHt36cic -------- My original review Here's a full first look on my Youtube channel. In the episode we build a simple layout and run a train. https://youtu.be/d028jeeyeYo I've been playing the game for around 6 hrs and here are my thoughts. In brief the game has allot of potential. If you are creative and like the idea of driving a train on a track and layout that you have made and understand what alpha software is then this game is a good investment. Buying this game at the time of writing this review means you understand the alpha nature of this game. Anything could change and I fully expect most things to over time. Plus: Reasonable size board to create a layout. Nice looking assets (buildings, trains and wagons) Nice range of assets - 3 trains, many wagons (no passenger carriage yet), goods and passenger stations. Minus: Uses fixed track (fixed corners, points etc...) The gui.... what gui Need to exit game to add more track after running a train No adjusting of height on an assets or terrain To play you add your track and click save. You then add the train (one train right now) and unlimited (maybe) wagons. On this screen you can also run the train and add scenery such as houses, tree etc... To return to track laying you need to exit the game and re-load (alpha software remember so be kind). At this time there is no gui. You choose an asset be it track type or train or scenery by cycling through a list of assets by pressing a key on the keyboard. I fully expect this to change to make it more visual in the future but I'd rather they work on the basics first before changing this. The biggest drawback to me on this game is that they chose to go down the route of using fixed track types such as a corner piece, a straight piece or points (there are allot of different pieces). The saving grace of this is that they do at least use dynamic track to connect these pieces together. So you can place a straight somewhere and then a corner near the straight and then drag your mouse between the two to get them to dynamically connect. The best games in this genre such as Transport Fever, City Skylines, Trainz ALL have fully dynamic track allowing for a far greater amount of flexibility. This will hold the game back in the future in terms of adding extra track textures and what the game can actually do. Right now the corner pieces and the points are also far too tight and the wheels of the trains at the front and back come off the rails. Plus even worse at times wagons become unhooked when travelling around these track pieces. The dynamic track isn't much better. If you place a straight somewhere and then add another straight at a slightly different angle as I mentioned above they will dynamically connect but the corner the game makes to connect them is far to tight. There are some small issues such as some assets such as houses and the train station have a base. At the moment this is fine and I suspect has been put in as the game has no way at present of paining the ground (grass, mud, gravel etc...) but if the game in the future allows for terrain manipulation (up and down) then the assets won't sit correctly so it would be better to not do this else they will be creating future issues for them selves. All this sounds very negative but these are teething issues. The game is new and I fully expect this game to get better and the issues be addressed in the future. I like the game which is why I've written the review and put the game on my channel. It has potential and I've enjoyed playing it. Good luck devs

Bought this game Aug 19 2021 This game should NOT have been released in it's present form! Early access is one thing but this thing is so incomplete that it is mind boggling. This game was released Sept 2019 and this is all they have to show? Returned game.
At 61 I have not played computer games before now. I watched a you tube review of Loco railroad by Bluewizard and just loved the look of it from the get go. Great detail and was focused on GWR. branch lines. Bought it straight away but couldn't get anything to work on a laptop, so my son has built me a reasonable computer with decent graphics card and I was off. Found out pretty quick that a lot of the fun is pressing everything to find out how it works. Now I realize that Loco is still very much in development, and recent updates have stopped it working all together (as reported by BlueWizard) but I want to stick with it as I just love the look and feel of it. In the mean time I have downloaded Trainz Railroad Simulator with the Cornish and Edinburgh add ons and wow; so much to learn, so many options. Making a complete mess of it so far so going to work my through the tutorials-great fun! But despite that I really want Loco to work and so looking forward to water and dock options as during lockdown I got into model railways after a 50 year hiatus and I am building an 00 gauge layout of Looe and Moorswater line in about the 1920's era. I grew up around Looe and researching its history has fascinated me and the idea of a working model and a Loco simulation really tickles me :)
This title is VERY early access. Know that going into it, or simple wait if you don't understand what that means! It's a concept with a working prototype. I was uncertain about spending $20.00 on something of this nature, but my love of model trains and some of the pretty screen shots got me to give in and take the leap! My first impression was disappointment. As I dug around a little and even spoke to a nice you-tuber, I realized I was missing out on some functions. They are mentioned in the game, and I can't find a manual, but they will be essential to a new user. CAMERA: Use 1-0 to change camera view. Once you load the game and press #1 or #2, you'll see what I mean! Second, If you are like me, you 'assume' that you lock track sections together. You don't!!! You place a track, leave a large space, space another track, then click one WHITE sphere and the other White Sphere to connect the sections. Again, nothing to tell you that, or certainly not clearly. Next, connecting rolling stock, I found to be a headache, but I'm getting there. You have to tinker with the links. It's a little fussy, but it works. That's as far as I got. I see the potential and believe this will be a great title! There are some limitations, even on the basics, like you can only have ONE layout. There's no save menu. YOu just save what you are working on, and that's it. You can start over, but you will lose whatever you originally worked on. Oh, and it isn't obvious how you go back and forth between rolling stock/props and track placement. You have to click LOAD, to go back to work on the actual track layout. HOpe this review helps. Is it worth it? Most likely if you are expecting a working title, no. If you are like me, and want to hang around while the dev continues to improve this, well, WHY NOT? It's only $20.00. We all waste money on far worse things I'm sure.
Lots of potential. Additional throttle control from keyboard would be nice. Maybe a brake too. Camera control needs work. I spotted the cattle cars at the live stock platform then picked up all the cars and started to drill them in the yard. Both times I derailed on the ladder. Switch control were the problem. All and all I like where this is going.
Has so much potential!!! Devs are quiet to post about updates but the game has improved 10 fold in just a year
Could you add a function so we can adjust the graphical settings and allow for more background object simplification please? In another vein, when I use the fast forward function and bump into trucks, they bump into each other, harder and harder, until the train goes straight through them and flies around the layout. Then when I reapproach the trucks (while are immobile but turn their wheels) they teleport backwards or let the diesel go straight through them. In addition, after another episode of fast-forwarding errors the log console appeared, stopping the train and warning me about some unspecified objects. While the train couldn't move, the throttle could be adjusted and the wheels spun like crazy. Despite that, I enjoyed the game, and look forward to what's on the horizon. Greetings from Denmark EDIT: Thanks for adding the simplification and graphics adjustment, now it runs much better :) If I might add four ideas I thought of, it would be that 1) the trucks(wagons) would stop at the end-stops, rather than go halfway through them 2) the ability to add bridges (the terrain doesn't adjust to them) and rivers/water/mud? 3) larger tunnels made from two normal tunnels connected by exclusively underground track 4) each point(track switch)'s unique ID is used to make a toggable signal switching sidemenu Greetings from Denmark :)
The software looks fantastic but is hell on Earth to use. To delete anything you have to press the LMB keys with one hand, (your other hand is on the mouse) Before spending good money, just try pressing those three keys with one hand. Come on guys, you can do better than that, the ' D ' key looks fantastic to me !
great simulation if your into model trains or trains even though its in early access updates and new features are comming regularly
