Black Screen of Death. Actually, I got past the black screen by hitting R which reset the settings. Unfortunately, that also means you can only play at the base settings. Once you get past all that, you are confronted with a completely bland and dead game. Skip this one unless you have a group who wants to play this together for whatever reason. Why is it in Polish? Is that language even Polish? I really struggled to enjoy the game, it was buggy, there were no instructions, controls overlapped and I didn't understand what was happening. I can't believe I paid money for this, honestly. Willing to give it another shot in a few months when all the issues are sorted. This is my first ever Steam review because I strongly feel that this game needs a LOT of work, and people shouldn't pay money for it. Buyer beware!
if you want to play a good couch game, CASTLE CRASHERS
(Got this game from some dork who thought this game was good. Many thanks!)
PETA will probably get this game pulled...for whatever reason...
Let me start out by stating that I hated Animal Rivals, which looks and feels like your basic low-level Unity crud. It's filled with several typos and quite a few bugs that range from instantly having access to the final battle in arcade mode to falling through a platform near the end of one of the canyon race stages (which has a tiny strip of land before some rising spikes). The story is poor. It's about a tournament taking place to see who can obtain the throne and rule over the animal kingdom through a series of minigames. These minigames include a time trial/race, a collecting contest, a block breaking contest, and a catching contest before partaking in an event where you have to stun all characters on the screen by throwing boxes at them while they punch you (in almost all minigames, computer units can punch you to insta-stun you...you cannot punch back). The biggest crime I have seen this game commit is its control scheme which cannot be changed. To move, you must use the arrow keys. The other controls are the 5, 1, 2, 3 keys on your number pad. This means that all your fingers are going to be bunched into one tiny little corner of your keyboard, leading to an awkward and uncomfortable experience. That said, I didn't have fun. Although I can say that I didn't like this game, I will say that the after-arcade CGs were somewhat decent. The artist behind them did quite well with them. It's only a shame that they're part of a game that I have to dismiss as trash. The actual graphics in-game are what you would expect to come from Unity titles. So...to recap: PROS: + Decent CG artwork. CONS: - Poor controls (which cannot be changed) - Buggy stages - Poor story design - An unreasonable/impossible expectation for the final achievement - An inability to punch computer units as they punch you to insta-stun you - Boring Do I recommend Animal Rivals? No. It goes for an asking price of $9, but goes for $2.70 when it's on sale. Overall, it feels like a college project of someone who wanted to make a generic party videogame and wanted to see if it could make the dev money after making the passing grade. Personally, I'd only recommend this game for less than $1 (About $0.25-$0.50 to be precise). If you're looking for a FUN party game, please look into 100% Orange Juice. 1/10 A below-average, buggy mess that feels like a basic Unity project by a college student.
steam says its multiplayer ,local multiplayer ,co-op, local co-op and shared splitscreen. so i bought 2 ,to play with my wife. and with the kids. u CAN'T play multiplayer or local multiplayer its ONLY shared and split screen. although its a fun little game , no way u can play it with 4 . eventhough the game is 4 player. i might miss something but if anyone can prove me wrong that u can actually play on lan. ok its not that expensive but i still feel robbed by wrong advertisement.
The game is pretty fun, even though in the beginning it's quite confusing and difficult to figure everything out (I mean controls and what to do in missions). But the longer you play the more you understand, so that's normal. It's really great that BSG keeps updating the game and adding new content. That's very promising and makes you want to check the game out from time to time to see what's new, if you're not a very gaming person (like me). I like the style the game was made in, shaders and sceneries all look very pleasing to the eyes. You don't have to pay to unlock skins etc. Also, I absolutely love the music. I hope to see one day a multiplayer mode to play against people online and ability to change controls in the options to my own preferences :)
The game itself is lot of fun played with friends. Solo is a bit boring after time, but content to unlock keeps you busy. Loving the graphics of game and design of locations. Although I would speed up the game a bit to be more dynamic. Very good to be played on gamepad, on keyboard it's not cool Pros: - plenty of content to unlock - graphics (those locations) - music (loving the BGM) - good choice of different minigames - gamepad ready Cons: - keyboard controls - poor story - small bugs Overall 7,5/10
I like the style and how crazy it is! My wife loved it as well, we had a great time playing it together. I highly recommend it to any couple :) My favourite part is "the collector" and hers are "destroyer" and "catcher". I can't wait to unlock all the animals, espcially the Robo-dog!
