Rogue-like arcade with story elements and unlockables for a fair price. Excellent: within the scope of the game project, this game does a great job of creating a sci-fi atmosphere and a sense of moving forward. My pilot goes places, blows things up, slows accumulates more survivability for future levels, and constantly looks for health. Positives: imaginative level design a cut above your average shooter Needs improvement: the UI for weapons and powerups/consumables is confusing to me. A single "weapon slot" seems to either/both contain a weapon or consumable.

A thrilling rogue-like game, coupled with excellent graphics and interesting narrative background. Last Encounter is imagined as Geometry Wars with a twist. Instead of an open-ground arena, your ship is exploring various maze-like galaxies full of alien vessels. As last human pilots (and humans at general), you have a strange advantage over your foes: the ability to rebuild yourself in your base and start your quest anew with more advanced weaponry and better wits about your path. I played the game with a mouse and found the interface responsive. The player has good control of his craft and can manouver it well even during more demanding clusters. Some weapons are more entertaining than others, but each pilot will find his or her favorites. Unexpected boss encounters can happen between galaxy jumps, allowing tense experiences and opportunity to gain some valuable upgrades. If I could change anything, it would be a slightly easier 'level entrances'. As all things are procedurally generated, your ship might burst within dense enemy groups, leading to a conflict that might exhaust your armor and ammunition quite quickly. It is a small nuisance, though. Also, I liked the design of character avatars, and would like to see them more often during play.
Even tho I got a review copy I have never played this game before, I have only seen it at a gaming convention in 2016 and 2017 so far as I haven't had the chance to play it there. This game deserves a solid review from my end based on the playthrough I did on stream where I played it for the very first time. At the first 50 minutes I went slowly trying to understand the mechanics as this game throws you into fast paced action if you're not careful and nearly kills you if you don't react. This is a fast paced bullet hell type game as I see it with randomly generated maps each time you die much like the binding of isaac is but except this game is a top-down shoot-em-up game somewhere in space. I have only gotten so far to the 2nd area of the game where I died due to not being skilled enough but after you play it enough you'll eventually get good and be able to reach the end of the game. This game has a huge replay value as you can customize your ship's weapons and choose perks/pilot which give special abilities based on that not to mention you can mix weapons to create new ones. There's a wide range of weapons you can select but some need unlocking as it seems. Not only that but the amount of randomly generated maps you'll play is great so that it's never the same experience as powerups drop randomly. A huge plus for 4 player multiplayer, sadly I had no friend to play this locally with and neither do I have a controller for the PC so I'll wait for a Nintendo Switch release, can't wait to play this on the go and with friends on my Switch. I highly recommend this game if you're a fan of shoot-em-up games of the past but want a more explorable experience with nearly "infinite" maps due to the RNG. Graphics: While you do not need a powerful rig to run this game the graphics design is really well made and runs fine on my GTX 470 with maxed out settings, was able to do a 60 fps 720p stream too smoothly. 10/10 Sound: I love the dynamic music style in the game, it gets intense when you're in battle and silent when no enemies are attacking you and also good sound effects, music never ends as if it's in a Nintendo game. 10/10 Gameplay: 10/10, if you love these types of games. Replayability: 10/10, already stated why above in my review. Difficulty curve: Steep but only for the first hour or so. This game will throw you back to the base to try again from the first area over and over again as it seems, this is good as you can upgrade your weapons and abilities? 9/10 just for a steep curve Story: 9/10 while there is a story it seems to be "dynamic" based on my playthrough, it's linear however. Pretty much undertale like if you die, the game knows you died XD. Release ready: Hell yeah, I wish there was a setting for mouse sensitivity and remappable buttons but remappable buttons are coming soon according to the options menu. Overall: 10/10 HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Fun game
ok game. But only play this if you have 1.5-2hr of spare time to play. Cannot save the game at all. For us parents with kids, very hard to have that much spare time. I understand this is rogue, but Devs, consider allowing us to save at the end of each world. That would make the game fantastic.
For starters Holy Crap does this game throw you into an a$$ kicking real quick. It feels like it has a lot to offer I have only put about an hour and come change in. The only this i had a problem with and it may have just been a one time thing is it did crash during a boss fight. Over all would give it as of right meow a 8/10 Twitch.tv/Fullmetalsn1per if you want to come check it out.
This is a console ported 2D top down sci-fi themed twin stick shooter. Guide a little "spaceship" through various procedurally generated levels. Buy upgrades to make subsequent runs easier. For a console shmup this is fairly well polished, but it's still a console game at heart. Dedicated PC gamers will be insulted by console peasant childrens toy gamepad prompts. The developer was unable to come up with decent level design or game/story flow/plot, so they opted to try to use samey repetitive procgen as a substitute for adding content to the game. As a result, the game doesn't actually have any content worth mentioning. Developers must learn that procgen is not content. So, how much would you expect to pay for a 2D console ported shmup today? $1? $2? Nope, Exordium seems to think this 2D console game is worth $15 USD, or the same as you'd expect to pay for AAA 3D rendered games like Resident Evil 2 or Metro Exodus when they're on sale. Games don't exist in a vacuum, and gamers time and money is scarce. Impossible to recommend.
I rarely play twin stick shooters, but the roguelite aspect of this game and the awesome modular weapon system is what drew me to it. The ability to create something completely crazy and then kill hordes of aliens is something which reminds me of some old space-shooters. This weapon system also allows me (together with choosing the ship and the pilot) to play with radically different strategies and approaches so it's never dull. One time I'm a fast and sleek ship which pushes enemies away and deals AoE damage, other times I'm a tank which shoots several concentrated beams which deal high damage. But, the local coop is where the real fun begins for me, as the joy of victory and blaming the loss on someone else is always a cool thing to do among friends :P The updates are regular which is a great thing, and not long from its release the game is already nicely balanced.
