About

The Cold is Just the Beginning.
A scientific expedition to the desolate Zhokhov Island is completely disrupted while abnormal magnetic anomalies occur. Among the team is Anna, a young geophysicist with a clouded past and a sharp mind. When disaster strikes and the crew becomes trapped in a long-forgotten Soviet military base beneath the permafrost, Anna must fight to survive and uncover the truth hidden beneath the ice.
But something else is buried here.
As she searches for a way out, Anna is haunted by surreal visions, grotesque figures, and distorted echoes of a twisted past. The deeper she goes, the more she feels drawn to this place, as if it strangely welcomes her back.
The cold may be deadly, but what lies beneath is far more chilling.

Classic Survival Horror, Reimagined
Kriophobia is a return to the roots of third-person psychological horror, where story, survival, and atmosphere are core. Inspired by genre classics like Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Rule of Rose and Haunting Ground, this is a slow-burning, symbol-rich experience where every shadow matters and every step forward reveals more than it should.
Evade or confront, your choice. Combat is tense, creatures are unforgiving, and often best avoided entirely.
Survive the elements. Resources are limited, the cold is lethal, and every decision counts.
Explore a broken legacy. Navigate the ruins of Cold War obsession and personal trauma through exploration, puzzles, and atmospheric storytelling.
Experience striking visuals. A unique art style blending comic book ink with painterly textures, brought to life through hand-crafted static camera angles.
Hear the haunting echoes. An eerie Slavic-inspired soundtrack immerses you in dread and loneliness as Anna's fractured history unfolds.
Some places should stay buried. Some memories should not.

For the record, the game got like 40 to 1 positive reviews which I thought was strange considering that I ran into dozens of design or technical issues, so I started to compare the accounts that wrote them, and at least 9 of them had 1 review in total, for this game only (one dude didn't even use his account for years before writing it)... Also, nearly every review claiming that this game was amazing, was at 0 achievements at the time of me inspecting them, even if they had multiple hours into the game or claimed how good it was overall (there is a narrative achievement about 1 hour into the game). One of those 1 review users had the developer and other accounts with more reviews on the friend list. So maybe 20+ potentially related reviews? I mean, they could at least provide some negatives as well. To be clear: I have nothing against the devs, they helped me with the issues so far, but I feel I should provide an alternative view, considering how little criticism this game got from its "customers", and I seem to have a very different experience playing it. To start with something positive, the first ~30 minutes or so I was somewhat impressed by the detail of the locations and the 3D modeling of the character, as well as a relatively smooth 3D animation, you can even control your flashlight independently which is a cool mechanic in this game for both puzzles and fighting enemies Alone In The Dark 4 style. For the most part, I think the locations look decent, although sometimes they can be a little too blurred because of all the filters and the frost effect which is also a game mechanic where you can slowly freeze. Another complement I would give, the game has some* very good puzzles which incorporate interesting lore and world-building while solving them, granted, they are diluted with occasionally obtuse puzzles where I feel like humping every part of the game. That said, maybe with a little more help from the notes, I think it could be balanced into a decently paced puzzle experience. It has a lot of content and optional collection, you can get 10+ hours out of it easily, but it's been a slog of random technical issues, mechanical frustration, and sometimes getting stuck on hard puzzles. The story during the game was not amazing, but I did like the endings. There is a decent game here below a couple design mistakes, if they can polish it more. I like that it has some different costumes, they seem to have different attributes like item capacity, speed or insulation (maybe). Now, some of the big negatives. You can still get damaged in this game when being locked into a narrative segment, picking up items, or while you are locked in a puzzle animation. If you played any decent survival-horror game, usually the game pauses while you interacting. Some areas where the game chooses to give you narrative segments are also not safe, so you might lose the ability to interact with the environment talking on the radio while getting banged by 2 mini-bosses that are chain grabbing you back to back, you don't get an immunity after already loosing control of the character. - There is even a moment where interaction spawns enemies, but the animation recovery is slower than their attack, so you literally can take free damage, which is kind of a good analogy for the experience of playing it. Another huge negative is the enemy design. Most of the game you fighting very dull and uninspired enemies, slugs or shadows, there is not that much variety. It also has 2 chasing type enemies, sorta like Nemesis but more boring, 2 of them actually, except one of the mostly patrols a few areas, and one of them can be almost anywhere. A big problem with these guys is that they rarely let you do puzzles, it feels like I get into a chase with the blob every 60 seconds, it gets very #### repetitive. The game is very big on "resource management", you can to track your temperature, your tools can break (even softlock your game if you not careful), as well as healing items and such. I do find it kinda odd that consumable items can lock you out of completing the game, although it seems sometimes you can find an extra item from a random event or the enemy drop, so it has some safety net for it.
Pros:
(+) I really like the character's movement & animation, the tank controls which I picked over the modern movement feels mostly good, not perfect, maybe the turning speed was a bit slower, but it's not bad. You can also control your flashlight while moving which has some combat and puzzle purpose, honestly I have been swinging this thing for fun for most of the game. (+) Maybe 60% of the puzzles have some interesting world-building and fair challenge, the other 40% probably could be a little more intuitive. (+) The story is hit and miss, but it has occasionally fun optional lore. Some locations look good (+) Actually there is a lot of content, varies optional achievements and tasks. You can also find a few different costumes with different advantages.
Feedback:
Maybe make the character immune during interactions with the environment or the narrative segments - unlike most survival-horror games, you can get damaged while picking up items, or even during some story segments, which is really stupid, I mean lets be honest, it's really bad. Too much Filter and excessive Darkness in some areas - look I get it's a horror game, but it does not mean my entire screen needs to be covered with foreground in some of these areas. Use these effects in moderation, the detail in the environment is what is important, not how much dirt I have over my screen. That game looks good, when you CAN SEE IT. Patrolling monsters have a bit too much presence - there will be a part of the game where you constantly getting into chase every like 30 seconds, they barely let you do puzzles. If it's not one guy it's the other, or both of them. They can also chain lock you into grabs, camp the save room, or just make it very odd to move around them in small areas. It's not hard, just very tilting and grindy. Like, there needs to be a more fair window to chill and do puzzles. Consumable Softlocks - I know it's very difficult to do it, and I know the game has many resources, but still, people assume consumables are not required for progression. That is logical. I think the girl can randomly drop you goodies, not sure if she can do it forever or if it's scripted. Enemy Design - all the regular enemies are not all that interesting to run into. The shadows take a long time to vanish after the prison, and the slugs are just kinda there. It feels the game is missing that mid-tier enemy, you know what I mean, where is your licker or hunter type enemy so you actually get to fight something cool. Those things on the ground, honestly mostly immersion breaking, they feel like artificial obstacle. Maybe remove monster noises from safe room music. On a side note, the game has some stutter issues in some areas of the game, I assume some light or particle effects. Could really use voice acting honestly. Overall Thoughts: 6.5/10 (after finishing) I don't regret buying the game, it's been somewhat of a guilty pleasure, but man, it was not ready to be released. Yea it seems good for the first 30 minutes, but the polish issues really pile up the more you play. To be fair, it has a lot of content and optional things to collect, it does some interesting things like flashlight interactions with enemies and puzzles, there are some good ideas here for sure. The narrative had an interesting conclusion between a few endings, even though the plot was a bit rocky. Really needs to be more friendly with those "immunity on item interactions" or not being chased so often in puzzle areas. Could really use an option to remove filters too.
A Chilling But Bitter Letter To The Classic Survivor Horror
This game deserves a mixed review. I played the demo of Kriophobia during last year's Steam Nextfest. The presentation impressed me so much that I even wrote a review (in a different language) and put it in one of the top 10 most anticipated games. Fast forward to today when I finally get the time to play this game, and my impression shifts. I am not saying that I am disappointed at the full release, but I am sure I wasn't as delighted to play it through as I was during the demo. I know the dev team put their hearts and souls into this project, and some parts of the game are actually genuinely horrifying. Yet, the overall presentation feels undercooked.
Things I Like About Kriophobia:

Cold System: I quite like the temperature setting. The protagonist will gradually develop hypothermia when exploring cold areas. She will freeze to death if you don't bring her to a warm place or use consumables to counter the coldness. It's another meter you need to keep track of, among other resource management, and I find this mechanic works quite well with manual save. Intentional or not, this system is a great reminder that you have explored long enough. It's time to backtrack to a save room to warm yourself up, and while you are at it, you might as well recollect your progress and manage the resource.
Multi-purposed Tools With Degradation: There is a notion that players can potentially soft-lock themselves with this feature. However, during my first playthrough with the highest difficulty, I never encountered such a problem. In fact, I have quite a surplus of tools at my disposal. Suffice it to say that the dev has since patched the problem. But that's not my point. I like this feature a lot. Tools functioning not only as weapons to kill monsters but also as their intended purposes is a rare sight. Ice Pick breaks ice and barriers. Wrench opens panels and locks, and Shiv slices tapes and slugs with ease. The degradation is another cherry on top. It rewards conservative and careful usage, as all resource management should be, and this feature adds another layer of thinking to exploration.

Other Compliments: [olist]
Backtracking also benefits from the multi-purposed tools. It makes the returning trip just a bit more rewarding with the new tools you acquire.
A majority of the puzzles can be solved by paying close attention to the environment.
There are tons of extra rooms to explore and gather resource. [/olist]

Things I Dislike About Kriophobia:

"Locked-up" Sequence: I know I just praised the game for its temperature system, but this is just ridiculous. There are parts of the game that force you into locked rooms. You are not allowed to go until you complete the intended sequence. Yes, it's a common trope in video games. What Kriophobia does here is quite unreasonable. Your temperature still goes down during this sequence, and the hints for how to proceed can be really opaque, such as interactables not being highlighted or just the environment being very hard to discern. It's possible for you to freeze to death for not knowing what to do, potentially losing hours of progress.
The Darkness: I like that the dev uses pencil sketches to portray dark areas. These lines convey a nice "obscure but not unseeming" vibe for the environment. What I didn't like is that a lot of places seem to be way too dark, to the point of being indiscernible. The dark pencil lines are already doing great work at setting up the atmosphere, so it's really unnecessary to put in more dark textures to plunge the darkness deeper.
Enemy Variety: There are only four enemies in this game, and only two of them, the slugs and shadow monsters, are repeatable. All four of them have problems. The slugs are way too weak to be considered threats. The shadow monsters are really annoying to deal with because of the inconsistent "hit detection" of your flashlights. Both of them can be easily outrun. The cold monster (the one with a giant hand and a fingerprint face) is a good roaming threat, if only its grab attack can be reliably dodged. The Matryoshka (the crawling, multi-mouth monster) shares the same problem with its confusing attack range and weird roaming patterns.
Other Complaints: [olist]
I refuse to believe that no crouch walking is not a design oversight.
The radio feels really underutilized. Its usage is very random and inconsistent.
Static image cutscenes are jarring.
No voice acting. Not gonna lie, it's quite a dealbreaker. [/olist]
Odczucia jakobyśmy wrócili do lat 90 gwarantowane.
MINUSY: ❌...a część niepotrzebnie komplikuje sprawę i tylko frustruje ❌Potwory takie sobie ❌Walka mało satysfakcjonująca ❌Filtr retro powinien mieć opcję wyłączenia ❌Przedmioty z plastiku? ❌Brak wersji PL
OCENA: 6,5/10

Zapraszam do obserwacji naszego kuratora: ŚWIAT RECENZJI
Publikacja recenzji także na sztab.com
Небольшие подгрузки на поверхности материка были, хотя игра на ссд. https://youtu.be/7twd3xw9fYE Low-End PC, Potato PC, New Games on Old PC, Игры на слабом ПК, Старый ПК, Новые игры на старом ПК
I don’t think it’s a bad game, it has some good moments—but the clunky animations, poor puzzles, and weird design choices almost made me regret playing it. You basically just run through corridors killing slugs. The patrolling enemies aren’t scary; they’re just buggy and boring. The puzzles are weird and uninteresting too. I’m sure some people might like it, but I’m not one of them. I did enjoy the middle of the game, but the beginning and the last part were really boring (even though I enjoyed the ending).
Give it a try, support the devs!
I really enjoyed the light dynamics, I spent time just observing the details that were hidden by the shadows. Never seen anything like this mechanic!
Had to leave a review because of how beautiful this game is. I love the old school feel, mixed with truly frightening moments. If you like horror games, this is a must play. Just make sure to keep some hand warmers on you :P
The Thing meets Silent Hill set during the Cold War in a frozen abandoned Soviet base. There are some technical issues, however it runs smooth and the story of this game is top tier. The inclusion of English voice acting makes this game MUCH better compared to launch. Combat is melee focused while managing a cold mechanic, if you stay out too long you'll get hypothermia. Save rooms warm you up or different items. The game also rewards exploration and remembering where things are while back tracking. Lots of hidden items that provide lore or that are needed for different endings. Anna is one of the best SH protagonist and I was rooting for her the whole time. Issues: The map is abysmal and borderline useless. Fixed cameras can be disorienting, which is why every survival horror game has included a proper map. I had to reload a save over 5 times during my play though. The worst bug was pulling out the radio and the character getting stuck in the listen position. The stalker enemy got stuck in the doorway 3 times blocking the path, also would just spawn into a room I'd walk into. Two crashes after a cut scene before moving to the 3rd area involving an elevator. Also an option to turn off the comic art style would be nice. Its distracting and the lines look bad on an OLED.
