Let me be clear, I'm not downvoting this because it's a bad game, the first couple levels are wildly fun and interesting and add a bunch of new mechanics to the platforming genre... but however, the one problem with jelly killer is that it get's old real quick. After the first 10 or so levels, you seen everything the game has to offer, and the remaining 42 levels are just rehashing the same old stuff you've seen in every other level. It's also infuriatingly difficult, but not in the good way. No, this difficulty doesn't stem from the puzzles being quite difficult to figure out the solution to, quite the opposite, the puzzles are fairly easy to solve. The reason that they're difficult is that most of the time they just rely on sheer random chance. The various guns in the game don't seem to have any sembelance of a pattern in which they shoot, so it could be 5 seconds between shots or it could be 1/2 a second. Sometimes it just won't pick up your keystrokes, leading to several annoying deaths when your character just walks into a pit of spikes instead of jumping. So overall, a brilliant idea, but executed in a very boring and generic way.
The game is fine, but the randomly timed projectiles are so unfair. Even if you have a good run going, if the laser RNG decides to take you down, they will. You can't time it, you can't anticipate it, and the randomness of this fact is just too much for me. Most other aspects of the game are decent, like the art, the concepts, and decently short length, but the RNG is too big a gripe to ignore
Jelly Killer is a side scrolling game, where you control a bio weapon that plans on escaping captivity. Story: In the far future, scientists discover what caused a zombie apocalypse and plan on using that knowledge to create a bioweapon that can turn humans into zombies. One day however, there is an emergency in the facility and the blob escapes. The story is pretty simplistic and nothing special. The set up is interesting, but that's about all there is for a story as the game is more focused on gameplay instead of story. Graphics: Jelly Killer has an art style of a 2000's flash game (plays like one too, but more on that later) and I absolutely adore the art for this game. The pixel look is very pleasing to the eye and the design of everything is very adorable. The animations are fluid enough, however there's not much variety in designs, most levels look really similar to one another and the developers tend to re-use the same characters over and over again. I wish there was more variety in enemies, but apart from that I still enjoyed the look of the game. Audio: This is by far the worst aspect of Jelly Killer. Everything from sound effects and music just sucks. There's only one track and it loops constantly. It wouldn't be as bad, but the track sucks and the loop itself isn't very good. The other sound effects are also not very good and sound quite low quality, the only good thing I can say is that the noise you make when disposing of a body is quite satisfying. Gameplay: Jelly Killer is a platformer where your main goal is to get out of the facility you're trapped in and you do this by going through pipes. Each level you drop in from a pipe and try to reach another pipe. You do this by taking over the employees bodies to use them to solve puzzles or get to places you can't reach in blob form. There's quite a few different types of people you can take over, ranging from scientists to jump to further places, workers to push crates, soldiers to use a gun and a few others. It's actually quite fun to figure out the order you need to take over these people and there is some slight puzzle solving cause once you detach yourself from a human it kills them immediately. The platforming works incredibly well and the game is really fun to play, however it's incredibly easy and doesn't take very long to finish. Each level is around a few minutes short, sometimes seconds long and to finish the entire game will take you less than 70 minutes, even though I still had a fun time with it. Verdict: Jelly Killer is a great little game that I had some fun with and considering it's cheap price tag, Even with it's issues, I think it's worth checking out due to it's unique concept, however don't expect a masterpiece and you should be good to go. Final Rating: 7/10 Pros: + Fun concept + Great art style + Gameplay is fun, even though it's incredibly easy Cons: - Incredibly short - Audio design is terrible If you liked this review please consider following our curators at https://steamcommunity.com/groups/completingthebacklog and https://steamcommunity.com/groups/ImperialReviews
