ICEY is a 2D side-scrolling action game and a META game in disguise. As you follow the narrator's omnipresent voice, you will see through ICEY's eyes and learn the truth about her world. The narrator will constantly urge you in one direction, but you must ask, "Why? Why am I following his directions?“ Obey? Rebel?

I can't even lie i wanted to talk Doodoo dogwater about getting stunlocked in combat and experiencing "Average Mortal Kombat Online Experience" but then after i 100%ed the game and got the true ending i cried and i felt truly ashamed, It's a good game fellows, short but it's worth it.
hard to say I dislike or like this game definitively, as my opinions are mixed. But overall? I see more bad than good. I didn't play far enough for the story to hook me, so I'll take anyone's word for it if I'm told it's good. However the movement is janky and the graphics are mismatched. ICEY plays like she wants to be on a MUCH bigger screen, and when I am moving forward, for some reason she is right on the right side of the screen and thus I can't see anything until it's on top of me? Horrible platformer design. The character design is good though and I could really enjoy the combat if it were a little more fleshed out. Overall I'd say 5/10. Kinda just mediocre.
If you're looking for a fun, content-packed metroidvania, this game is not that. It is, however, a short, yet interesting narrative that comments on game development, which happens to also use a very extended metaphor involving the King in Yellow that envelops the story as a whole. Having the narrator on Mandarin is a must. The English VA isn't horrible, but he doesn't nearly portray as much emotion, and pissing the narrator off is one of the two biggest appeals in this game for me, and the Mandarin VA does an amazing job for that. The story is the second of those appeals. The ending had me stunned for a solid bit, and is an amazing resolution to the
actual story hidden in the false narrative.
The combat is decent, but much of it can be ignored for the most part, since you can pretty easily sweep the entire game with a small selection of combos. The flow of battles is mediocre at best, hindered primarily by the lack of i-frames when being knocked down, allowing enemies with constant attacks (like the laser drones) to just straight up infinitely combo you until you die, especially bad when those same enemies appear in bosses. I legit decided to turn down the difficulty from hard to normal just for
Carlos
because the boss and lasers infinite comboing me from a single mistake pissed me off that much. My verdict: Get it on discount. Game doesn't last nearly long enough to justify full price, but on a 50%+ discount it's totally worth it in my opinion.
I have to say im disappointed by the direction this game goes, such a wasted potential despite the well character design and enemies, this game could go on develop into something better, i hope u can sell this game to different company and make it a new
Combat feels weightless, repetitive, and inconsequential in the long run. Not once was I encouraged to upgrade any of my abilities, because it all felt so "pointless," I don't know how else to describe it. It just seemed like the enemies were mindlessly running their scripts in the background with complete disregard to anything that the player was actually doing. In addition, the infinite multi-directional dashing further cheapens things. I know there's a dash counter, but it refilled so quickly, the counter may as well not be there. The difficulty was essentially non-existent, going back to my not wanting to upgrade any of the abilities. It just seemed like I'd be able to button-mash/dash my way through every encounter, including the Boss fights, but with no real challenge reward to the player for completing a section. The main gimmick, the Narrator quickly wore thin, and I never felt really compelled to continue this past the point of finishing a game. The story, even for as little as I played, didn't feel compelling at all. It's like playing a full-priced work-in-progress disguised as a polished game. There are far better Hack & Slash titles out there, and I certainly wouldn't consider this a Metroidvania. Now, I impulse bought this, shame on me, but for anyone else? You might want to consider a demo first; I sure should have. On the plus side, you can tell that a lot of care and attention went into the main character design, but beyond that, the total experience, left me wanting more... of another game. Sorry, but this one just didn't do it for me.
This neat little platformer game isn't perfect, but it has fun combat and a silly story, and I enjoyed playing through it, so I think it's worth getting if it's on sale. The story is certainly quite unusual. It follows ICEY as she makes her way through an abandoned city to slay Judas, who is presumably responsible for the city's destruction. The narrator guides you as you progress, although you're given many opportunities to disobey him, which prompt humourous encounters with him, although they are a little on the nose and get a bit repetitive after a while. There does seem to be a bit of deeper lore to parts of the story as well, but it was a bit complex and I had a hard time figuring out exactly what it was supposed to mean. Unfortunately I didn't find the English voice acting to be very good, but I found the Chinese voice acting to be quite a bit better, so I'd recommend using the Chinese dialogue with English subtitles for the best experience. The gameplay is pretty fun, and I enjoyed the movement and combat, although it also got a little bit repetitive after a while, as there's a pretty small number of different enemies, and they're all fairly similar. I did end up playing on what I believe was the easiest difficulty though, so it's possible that it might be a bit more exciting on harder difficulties (the game gives you some questions at the start to determine difficulty, but the questions aren't clear and there's no easy way to change the difficulty later). The combat is neat, and I thought the different moves you can unlock were cool, although the hitboxes and responsiveness do leave a little bit to be desired. It's a pretty short game as well, with a fairly small map and only a handful of bosses. The game does look quite nice, and it ran on my Steam Deck without any issues. TL;DR This neat little platformer isn't perfect, as the story is a bit odd and gets a little bit repetitive, the English voice acting isn't great, the combat isn't perfect and gets repetitive after a while as well, and it's fairly short. However, I still enjoyed the story and the combat, and had fun playing through it, so if the game interests you, I think it's still worth getting on sale.
