Despite the game being short, it involves you in the Protagonist's story and their sadness by using not only text, but great art and music. The game offers several pronoun options to truly immerse yourself. It shows how much the developers put their heart and soul into their work. Great game "There is too much missing from this picture for it to feel complete. But maybe this is what it feels to pour paint over an old canvas and create something new"
This game is a truly beautiful experience. I loved all of the writing, the score, and the art, and found that they weave together perfectly to evoke a lot of emotion in very a short time. Having played the demo, I really didn't think I would cry but.... Unsurprisingly, this has made me very fond of the story and characters and excited to replay and see all of the different paths and interactions. I Love it!
went in expecting to cry, my expectations were met.
It's a game about making a monster. You say, "I'm making a monster!" and mash all over the place. Everyone's trying to get you to not make the monster by hanging out with you. Hanging out with your friends is fun except Corey. I don't want to hang out with Corey. Corey Sucks.
[[PLAY THE PROLOGUE (demo) FIRST, IT GIVES MORE CONTEXT]] Enjoyed the story a lot. It's bittersweet in just the right way. I've lived and am living with different types of grief throughout my life. The way grief shown in this game resonates with me deeply. And the way the friends of main character are written fills my heart with hope and joy. Folks who made it, thank you, and I wish you the best for your future projects! Last but not least, kudos for the pronouns options!
What whimsical despair. This story is short but it truly packs an emotional punch. The art is beautiful and the music too. I am excited to replay a few times making different decisions, especially to unlock more details about the protagonist. I really enjoyed it and I highly recommend!
omg, I'm not crying, you are. More seriously. This is very beautiful. Moving. The art, the narration, the characters. I'm emotional now It's short tho. But it doesn't need to be long.
This game is seriously an incredible work of art. The music is beautiful and every track matches the mindset or state of the main character really well, the art is comforting to look at but at the right moments it can feel pretty unsettling in a good way and the story is really good. Yes, there were some parts here and there where I hoped for some more clarity and I wish there were some QOL tools that don't exist in the game (an overview for all the different endings for example). But aside from those things this games really hit me in the feels. As a person who (not all too long ago) lost a loved one who was a huge pillar in me and my family's life there were a lot of things that the main character expressed and did that felt familiar to me in certain ways. !! Spoilers for some of the endings past this point !! For example:
When the main character finally accepts that Delaney is gone and that Delaney wouldn't want her to go down this path of trying to fill the hole that her death has left in the MC's life with something that would pose as her (AKA The monster)
. That and many other things that happen in this game reminded me a lot of how I grieved with the loss of that person in my life. I won't go anymore into the details regarding my personal life since that isn't what the review page is for but I will say that this game definitely helped me reflect a bit on the past few years since their passing and see how much has happened and how much I've grown from that experience. In general though I really do recommend this game and I hope you can appreciate it as much as I did.
I really wish there was a neutral option for a review, because I would use it here. I had my hopes up for this game, adoring the art and idea behind it, but everything just fell flat. The illusion of choice made me really frustrated, and the lack of visuals was disappointing. I support the team and the good cause of the game, but the game itself was not up to my standards.
I'm Making a Monster does such a stellar job of exploring complex feelings that come from a life-changing situation. It is a short game with lots of different paths and routes based on the choices the players make (so you better believe I'll be replaying this one a few times!) The soundtrack really fits the somber (but hopeful) atmosphere beautifully. The music coupled with the watercolor art (that had me in visual awe the entire time, full disclosure) and the fantastic writing exploring emotions and relationships in a very approachable and real way makes this game something really special. Zorkie Studios knockin' it out of the park again!!
