An arcade style music & rhythm game!
Played using Oculus Rift The game is designed for all ages and has multiple difficulties to choose from, to suit all skill levels. This game is a proper roomscale game, with a recommended scale of 3m x 3m. My roomscale is not that, so at times I find myself awkwardly moving my arm outside of my safe area to interact with things (mainly the leaderboard). This game is fully playable in a smaller sized room, but play at your own risk (as mentioned above) Gameplay. The game has a good arcade atmosphere and feel to it, and actually helped me get into the game easier, being fully aware of this fact. I recommend playing on Super Fun difficulty then ramping it up to Extreme and/or trying out death mode. There are 3 DJs with 3/4 songs each, so a total of at least 9 songs. As far as VR fitness is concerned, this game can provide quite the work out. If you liked the movies, you'll appreciate the setting as it all looks fairly accurate. Taking into account the game is designed to be played by multiple users and not just one individual, with its arcade style gameplay and a leaderboard, I think the game is priced fairly and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys Beat Saber or other rhythm games. The devs listen to all feedback and suggestions as hearing what players think is a high priority.
Oh PopsticVR... Ever since I purchased my VIVE headset over 2 years ago, I have longed for quality beat/rhythm games that could bring me back to the good old days of rockin out on guitar hero or rockband. With my VR, I have gone from playing MC OSU, on to beat saber, and now this game, set in the perfect atmosphere of a Hotel Transylvania themed DJ Cruise. What a brilliant combination of a highly immersive and movement based VR game, with the fun and positive animated universe / characters of Hotel Transylvania (Can't wait to see some of the many adorable monsters make their debut as a DJ to rock out with.) This game feels like a DDR for VR, and really focuses on precision and full body movement, over just swishing as quick as you can. It is a refreshing game in the VR Community that I definitely have a hard time putting down. I hope to see this Popstic platform grow and take on other awesome themes and styles in the future! A couple of notes: - The sound effects level when hitting the orbs felt too high compared to the music, however I was told that it is possible to turn it down in the options setting within the game. I'd recommend doing this once you get used to the game, and want to just flow with the music. - I'm very excited about the DJ system, and how each DJ kinda represents their own Genre of music. Brilliant concept. I would love to be able to see the genre or category that this music would fall under from the menu, so if I feel like going hard to some trap music, I can find the right DJ For my dancing needs. - Currently does not show the song titles when playing the game, would love it if the titles were somehow incorporated into the DJ stand, as if it were an LED Display or something. - Would love to have the ability to create my own favorites list. There are only a few songs right now, but as more songs get implemented into the game, it would be great to have a favorites section where I can focus on the songs I like the most. This would be especially helpful if I am trying to grind for perfects on a specific set of songs, that way I could start the playlist, and have it automatically run through the specific songs I want to play. - It would be AMAZING if there was some sort of perk or achievement system implemented, based on the different monster powers or themes found within the movie, where if you got a perfect score on every song in a specific DJ's set, you could unlcock new saber skins, lighting effects, or environmnets. I think that would be super fitting as each DJ represents a different genre, and would therefore would make sense to have a background that fit the mood / theme of the DJ. Also, this would heavily incentivise players to really go for those perfects, as who wouldn't want to unlock different monster themed sets and effects? If you enjoy any type of beat/rhythm based games on vr or otherwise, this is absolutely a game for you! Perfect for family and friend game nights, or just getting into the zone and exercising for an hour by yourself. Great work PopsticVR Team! You took the Hotel Transylvania brand and really made it your own, extending the universe in a believable and thrilling way.
I was kind of off put by videos I watched online because I wasn't a fan of the visuals, but the level design and gameplay were phenomenal. There aren't any VR rhythm games like it out there. I'm sure it was built specifically for staffed play but I had a lot of fun with my Oculus + wand mode.
This game is impressive. More polished than Beat Saber. base game better than Beat Saber. Better music and graphics. Way better than Dance Collider. The gameplay is sort of a mix between BoxVR and Beat Saber little bit less depth because your slashing direction doesn't matter but it's more polished than both of those. Plus there are some other mechanics like slow time and the obstacle dodging is more intricate. Obviously cant compare to the user generated content in Beat Saber, but that's not really a fair comparison. I like the base game here better. The music is way Way better.
TL;DR Its a good rhythm game which some neat additions. The popstic controller nudges it above the bar. Good party game with lots for beginners. I have been playing the beta for a while and I have to say I was slow to get into it. As a beat saber addict it seemed to lack that initial punch of blam blam blam that I crave but when the popstic arrived it took on a new form that requires you to move your body with the music. That and the addition of the harder levels and better controls / options have really moved it forward. I also found that its a great new VR user game. The low levels are perfect for new VR users where as others rhythm games are just too full on for some and they end up getting frustrated in the new VR world. The interface just works well, you dont need to figure anything out. This is now one of welcome to VR favs. The devs are also really receptive to input and are continually improving it. Checkout my videos for some AR action footage in game.
Hotel Transylvania Popstic is an extremely well made VR title of the rhythm variety, I've had the pleasure of helping test the game and must say it has improved on its journey to its upcoming release! I never thought I needed Drac as my personal DJ until this game came into my life, with the included Popstic I feel a bit like a PG-Darth Maul whos into dubstep! very fun experience and one thats wholesome' for the family! I would have had some negatives to say about this earlier in development, but it has come such a long way and patched out most things I personally didn't like, looking forward to the future of this game!
First off, I love a good rhythm game. Just putting that out there...because I sadly cannot recommend this game. It does a lot right, and the multiple genres of music is neat, the graphics are pretty, but it's lacking in song selection / environments / and just overall fun. Shoot even the voiceovers are well done, but at the end of the day it's a VR music game that doesn't stand up to the competition. Very fun workout or a great game for the kids. Keeps you moving with fun game mechanics and the dual-popstick is a great twist to the game as well! Great VR experience.
This music rhythm game is super fun and with the multiple difficulties it can be easy enough for a kid, or challenging enough for adults. There is a bit more variety than games like Audioshield with various power-ups, lasers to dodge etc. This is a great game to keep active with. We did a video with the Popstic add-on which works quite well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMxUp3jTP3g
Where to start? Hotel Tansylvania POPSTIC has been added to my must play list for when friends and family come over. Now that, that is out the way. If you are a fan of Rhythm based games like Beat Saber, Audio Shield and Sound Boxing this game is a no brainer. What separates it from the rest is the whole family aspect of the game. My kids love it they are real fans of the Hotel Transylvania movies and the difficulty can be scaled down to the point where my 4 year old can play while still ramping all the way up to the point that it's challenging for me as a seasoned Beat Saber player. The atmosphere is great, the graphics are top notch and the sound track is amazing. This game is a win/win... Check it out for yourself on my YouTube Channel right here https://youtu.be/OBe1__63A7g
