Solid puzzle focued game with serviceable combat and medicore story, but an astoundingly good atmosphere and meticulously crafted lore.
Ottimo gioco,. non è un capolavoro certo, ma divertente con ottime ambientazioni.
I'll begin by saying I jumped into this game expecting something incredible. I had high hopes. The limited guidance really forced some close attentiveness, and the idea really was there. The world building was phenomenal. It truly engaged me for a while. However, it felt like this game was an Alpha test. The problem is that the entire combat system reaches a cap that has little to no payoff for taking the extra effort. Once I realized how to change weapon types and utilize that, it seemed so exciting. Right as the enemies got harder and more nuanced, it suddenly falls on its face halfway through the game. I started to lose a lot of steam when I realized I had seen every enemy there was to see in the game. Every combat interaction felt recycled. So much effort was put into giving life and character to the 4 attributes. So much mystery and discovery. I'm thinking: "oh wow, I'm going to dive into this pit of terror, I can't wait to see what new terror enemies they have cooking up". When I first got going in the game and saw things like "grief is a more defensive playstyle" and "rage is more high damage", etc. However, after a certain point I realized it didn't really matter. These affinities had no real impact on damage or enemy weaknesses, and this kind of leads into the major over-arching issue. The game ALMOST gets there with the puzzle building based around these attributes. But not quite - they are only a short-lived piece of the level design. There are no bosses in the game. Imagine, for example: BIG BAD CRAZY GRIEF SOUL HERETIC OF THE DEEP boss has super high resistances to grief and terror, I only have grief and terror weapons, he is ripping me to shreds. Now I am bottlenecked into further exploration and trying out new weapons and affinities to ever have hope of beating the boss. This is what could have been, and what I expected as I started to learn the mechanics and lore of the game. There was nothing that even tried to approach this. In short, pick a color you like, a weapon with attack speed you are comfortable with, and do that for the entirety of the game. Shoot, even two extra levels of upgrades/enemy types would be a major step. It would keep you progressing through to the end of the game. I got to the end, continually noting that the story was not fleshed out explicitly on the screen, and hidden further in the lore tabs and journals throughout the game. But every road I took left me feeling like I'm diving into and unfinished idea - be it the road to a great storyline, gameplay, level design, or even the dialogue (incredibly cringey and forced). So naturally, I didn't care to follow another road to the dead end that everything else promised. If they took even a single facet of this game to a point of completion, I would have been deep into the lore and story, maybe playing through again and finding new secrets. It was just an unfinished idea in every way. I know the inevitable comment comes, "why did you keep playing if it sucked so bad?" That is the problem. I didn't hate it. I loved it, and I was SO disappointed when they dropped me off stranded in the middle of the road and said, "well, here we are, this is your prize for sticking with it!" Felt like such a slap across the face.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 23 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 14 places towards #1, and the 2,515 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Pretty fun.
Exellent game with lots of mystery and atmosphere. I enjoyed this game very much from start to finish.
10/10!
Frankly ! Breaking quest "just because we decide to put people moving" and you cannot reload previous save is a bad design. I, as a user want to be able to load the save I made previously => Let me have multiple save file. OR INDICATE THAT THE QUEST WILL BREAK ! For the others if you buy this and do not want to loose achievement due to stupid developement design, I recommend using https://game8.co/games/Hell-is-Us/archives/546099 The "Progression-Sensitive Good Deeds" => Especially for the flare question, once killing the trapped monster, do not speak to the guy again before giving all flares, else "Wow auto save cutscene who break your quest because we could not implement a auto save slot in complement of your manual one". Except that, the game is quite good for the moment so if you are not against achievement breaking dev, you can go ahead and play it readily. EDIT: After research: You can restore and old save if you overwrite the savefile by a previous and restart the game (else it does not load it). So if you have problem "DO NOT BLINK, BLINK AND YOUR SAVEFILE IS GONE" => Copy the targetted one from C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\HellIsUs\Saved\SaveGames\ in another location, overwrite the latest, restart the game. Also you can try to use https://www.saveeditonline.com/ to fix your save game if you do not modify the structure of the file. Else, good luck I did not find a project that allow update struct and compile back to GSAV.
I liked this game way more than I thought I would. The world is unique and while the characters feel stiff the stories and what the civil war has done to them was delivered and the NPC stories were compelling. I had no technical issues in my experience and the game ran great with no bugs encountered. As for some of the criticisms I've seen online, here my thoughts: 1. Combat becomes stale: YMMV but I was fine with the combat. There aren't a ton of enemy types and you see most of them through act 1 but once you start leveling up your weapon's power and adding glyphs with drone commands what starts as a brutal souls like combat you become powerful enough to run through enemies. The healing pulse mechanic took a little while for me to get used to but once down, you'll barely need to use healing items. The parry system I think takes too many hits before stunning enemies but I will say, the design and how they attack is unique with their embedded/tethered souls. 2. The game doesn't hold your hand and it's hard: This is another YMMV but the game does something different here. While I used guides to complete the game in one go with 100% achievements, the answers to all of the puzzles, good deeds, mysteries, etc. are in your datapad. I forget which review it was but the reviewer mentioned they kept a note pad to come back to notes taken to follow along as to where to go and how to solve the various tasks and progress. This is very true so the game can be as easy or as difficult based on your time commitments and if I had more time, I'd like to have gone through it with just the information provided on the datapad. If so, ensure you quick slot the compass as you'll hear how to get to locations by the area you need to go to and whether they are north, south, east or west. One item of note, if you do use a guide to go through the game, ensure you complete the all necessary good deeds for the act you're currently in. Overall, I would like to see a sequel and continue with the next iteration of what happens in this world as there was a lot of lore to explore still and what happens with Remi.
i am just starting out in the game but so far so good i all so notice that hell is us game play kind of remind me of the game prey with how some of the monster look like and attack i dont know if it just me that see that when i get more in too the game i will post more of a better review
A very solid game overall. It's strongest points are it's narrative and the world. Really interesting world building and the story is very interesting. The combat is decent, but it's not it's strongest point, but it does have a little bit going on in terms of a little bit of nuance but if this is what you're looking for in the game, it will not be for you. Decent amount of side stuff here that will extend the play time, it's a bit obscure figure out some of the stuff but if worse comes to worse there are guides out there. Though I feel like once you get the hang of how the game works, that part isn't -too- bad. If you're looking for an interesting world to be in (with heavy themes) and a game that doesn't hold your hand, I def recommend this one. It's a very solid experience, especially when on sale.
