About
Helicopter Gunship D.E.X is a tactical helicopter combat sim inspired by the classic helicopter games of the late 90s, rebuilt for modern players.
Fly attack helicopters across large combat zones, manage sensors and weapons, and take on procedurally generated missions where every sortie can unfold differently.
With scalable flight models, gamepad and HOTAS support, and authentic battlefield decision-making without burying you in complexity, HG:DEX aims to capture the thrill of low-level helicopter combat: Detect, Engage, eXfiltrate!
You won't find any magically respawning missiles here! Instead you will find realistic weapon loadouts, a simulation level physics driven helicopter flight model and the usual targeting pods and RADAR systems you would expect in this type of game. You'll need to employ authentic tactics and systems but without the 300-key learning curve!
Overall difficulty can be adjusted, including:
Customisable flight model to make flying the helicopters much easier
Complete control of mission difficulty including enemy strength, AAA/SAM/MANPAD density etc
Simplified targeting controls
Enemy weapon damage modifier
Fuel usage modifiers
There are currently 10 main helicopters...
AH-64 Apache
Lynx
Gazelle
AH-1Z Viper
AH-56 Cheyenne
RAH-66 Comanche
Kiowa Warrior
Mi-24 Hind
Chinook
MH-60 Blackhawk DAP
...and most have several different versions.
The main part of the game revolves around the random mission generator that allows you to define your own procedurally generated engagements which will never play out the same way twice.
Mission types include Strike, SEAD, Search & Destroy, Recon, Transportation etc.
Each mission in Helicopter Gunship D.E.X utilises a deployment point system ensuring missions remain balanced and that older weapons and helicopters still have a role to play no matter what the mission involves.
Fully playable from either 1st person in cockpit or 3rd person chase cam perspectives.
Fully playable with a gamepad but also completely re-bindable controls for HOTAS systems.
Special modes for mouse & keyboard flyers.
Robust procedurally generated random mission generator allowing you to quickly get into the action.
Multiple helicopter flight models ranging from Simple to Realistic that allows even novice helicopter pilots to get straight into the action.
Places you in direct control of both flying the helicopter and using the various targeting systems to designate and destroy targets.
Easy to get into but still difficult and rewarding to master.
3 distinct terrains to fight over. Central Libya (100km x 50km), Coastal Norway (40km x 40km) & Lush Desert (40km x 40km).
Weapon load outs are based on real world helicopter capabilities and you will use the same kind of real-world targeting systems such as "SACLOS", "Laser", "RADAR" etc to detect, designate and destroy your mission targets.
A slight departure from reality is that you, the pilot, will be in direct control of designating targets and firing weapons even in helicopters that have co-pilot/gunner positions. Your CP/G will aid in target identification and spotting targets visually.
Weapon types range from modern Fire & Forget, like the Brimstone, to Cold War era weapons, such as the TOW, as well as a wide range of rocket pods, gun pods, bombs & door gunners.
Helicopter Gunship D.E.X supports TrackIR, OpenTrack and Tobii Eye Tracking via the TrackIR software.
VR mode is available but not fully supported just yet. You can read more about VR support in the Steam Forums.
Single "challenge" missions & training missions are the main focus of the current beta.

I'm insanely confused.. What happens when you run out of ammo? Exact how do I finish a mission when there is about 2 trillion dollars worth of combined arms between me and this random warehouse that I guess contains the Epstein list.. but super to fun to shoot things and attempt to get as close as you can before you run outta ammo and just crash into the nearest Diddy party outta pure frustration that there's a MULTIPLE miliary bases around that conveniently just doesn't carry any ammo. also, lol why is there like no tutorial at all.. I REALLY wanna play this game, but I can't help feeling as if I'm missing something and when I try to look anything up about this game, I'm just redirected to the same two or three links talking about a game mode that is I guess no longer in the game? despite sounding much better than these randomly generated Bill Cosby sleepovers.
oh i can tell i'm gonna like this a lot
VERY good flight mostly sim. i say mostly sim bc u have less sim like options if u wish. i play on key and mouse and it works fine. a little touchy is all. great game even at full price! most systems can probably run it, and dev is interactive
I have a very high end machine, and a 500gb internet connection, this game will not run, it lags very badly to the point of unplayable.
Great game for the fans of the likes of Enemy Engaged and Gunship. Just right amount of complexity, good selection of helis and great mission generator. Early access version is a bit rough around the edges, but gets updates constantly and the dev seems really dedicated to the project.
This is a very interesting game strikes, a balance between simulation and arcade, offering a variety of mission types such as SEAD, CAS, Cargo Transport... The enemies are diverse, and the threats can be extremely hazardous if you’re not paying attention. For a game developed by just one person, it features an impressive selection of vehicles, including the Apache AH-64A/D, Gazelle, Mi-24 Hind, Cobra, and more. The weapon loadout customization is also excellent, with options like Hellfire, TOW, and even Anti-Radiation Missiles !! That feels well-balanced and not overpowered, since the missile only targets vehicles that are scanning you with their radar and if you launch it properly. It does have a steep learning curve. I highly recommend setting up all your keybinds while testing in a mission. First, you can change MFD modes and also pay attention that when you combine with "/" and "*" , you’ll need to configure controls for the throttle, hover vehicle, hover altitude, and switching between MFD visuals to view the map, objectives, vehicle integrity, and weapon controls. It took me about two hours to fully understand all the bindings and control the vehicle, and another hour to effectively use the weapons. But it was absolutely worth it! There’s still room for improvement, though. The game could benefit from more punishing threats for helicopters flying at high altitudes. Currently, the only enemy SAM vehicles are the Strela, TOR, and Shilka, but adding systems like Buk missiles would enhance the challenge. Another great feature is the persistent damage system: if your vehicle takes damage during a mission, it remains even if you return to the airfield to rearm. I’m looking forward to seeing a campaign mode and access to an armament glossary in the future!
Very good game, Well made and Dev is very open and active with the community. An EECH style campaign is on the way and i hope they can pull it off.
Good game, I wish they would include additional rotary aircraft soon.
