Hard to Be a God

Hard to Be a God is a deeply flawed but fascinating RPG with a memorable atmosphere and a world unlike most fantasy games. While its combat and technical aspects show their age and are rough-around-the-edges, if you enjoy old-school RPGs and immersive settings, you may find it a rewarding endeavor. Its unique story background deserves more attention, and it's an entertaining, niche, Euro-jank RPG experience through and through.

**update3** im 35 years old now, and this is the best game i ever played in my life. It might be the ONLY good game ever made. And ive played them all. Check out my youtube of the same name if you dont believe me that ive played every 3d game ever made **update2** this is one of best games i ever found in 34yr of being alive! A grand adventure! The combat is awesome you can block with spacebar and rotate around with WASD while still blocking, blocking blocks 100% of damage, you can swap to different weapons and use their skills as well so you never have to wait for other skills cooldowns. definately Play on normal (difficulty = 1) in the ini file. Easy just changes the difficulty to 0.5 in the config file. And that makes the game too easy. Normal is sooo perfect. My only tip is to not spend too much time collecting gear in the first zone because you will lose it all. But then you can buy it all again when the real game starts + much much more **update** this game is spectacular, like really really good. We are talking more content than most bethesda titles and definately more content than the gothic series in this little gem. I suggest altering the camera so you can look forward. Its easy to do. The game is incredibly detailed. And actually has cel-shaded graphics so it will NEVER look outdated I got all my loot back that they took away (well i didnt get my loot back but you can find all the items from lv1 further into the game) thank god this game is actually no joke, especially if you make the camera point forward and do the console command r_fog 0 (you must first enable console in hardtobeagod.ini which is inside the TBB folder) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wy9e6XAFHrk&t=31s cons -no torch or lantern (this one really hurts, especially in a game with such great dynamic lighting) -bad grass. it stays bright green even at night time. The grass is the only transparency texture. Transparency textures are not real pixels and do not respond to light or shadows. IF i could find and delete this file the game would look soo much better. But the files are .pak files and i dont know how to access them. the game still is an epic rpg with more content than gothic/witcher however and im literally not joking i figured out if you enable console 1 in howtobeagod.ini (howtobeagod.ini can be found inside the TBB folder) then in-game type in decal_camera then hit enter, then type freeze_camera you can fly the camera around the gameworld and look at the graphics! Also type r_fog 0 to render the ENTIRE zone with nothing hidden (it hurts fps bad but its worth it) you can also type r_post_effect 0 to turn off the hdr/bloom glow (any level transition turns the effect back on however so you gotta type this after every level load)
