Availability
We put this game to every storefront we collect. A market that answered not sold has told us something about the game; a market we never asked has not, and the two are never drawn the same.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0.33/day in the week to Aug 4 → 0.86/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Recommended, the most reluctant thumbs up I will ever give. I bought this game. That was my first mistake. My second was the sunk cost fallacy chaining me to it like a medieval prisoner who paid for his own shackles. The pacing is what I imagine purgatory feels like. Every 30 minutes of grinding earns you about 5 glorious minutes of actual content. It's basically a slot machine, except instead of money you're gambling with the only non-renewable resource you have: time. The characters walk at the speed of someone who just had hip surgery. I assume this is a deliberate gameplay disadvantage. I aged visibly. Would I play it again? I'd rather reread my old text messages. But, and this hurts to admit, the final chapters were actually phenomenal. The kind of good that retroactively makes you mutter "...okay, fine." It's like being stuck in an elevator with someone for 40 hours and on hour 39 they finally tell a great joke. So here we are. Thumbs up. Against my better judgment. Against my will, even.
This game sucks. I am left a broken and changed man. I now have to carry the burden of this game occupying space in my brain. I have to carry the burden of telling everyone I know to experience this game in one way or another for the rest of my life without being able to tell them exactly why. It's one of those things that is better to experience knowing as little as possible. What am I supposed to say about a game who's strongest selling points are better off left as surprises? I hate this game. It's the best game I've ever played in my life. It's the utilizing of video games as a medium for storytelling of all time; the fact this originally came out in 1994 just makes it all the more impressive. You also realize just how much this game has influenced other games you've probably played before; LIVE A LIVE is everywhere for those who can see it. It's not just a recommendation - it's required reading for those who enjoy more unique rpgs. Why did my friend gift me this game. I am a victim of psychological torment. ♥♥♥♥ this game. I love this game. Please play it.

14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Aug 31: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

This game is divided on several chapters, each set up in a distinct time period/setting and telling its own separate story, with final chapter uniting them all. Each mini story has easily recognizable plot - you ether already read such story or watched a film or played a game - its like a short love letter for common tropes. While not all of those chapters are equally good (Twilight Japan chapter is longer and has much more stuff than others, while Present Day is super short and barebones), they are all enjoyable and engaging. Special shoutout for Prehistoric chapter for telling a story without anybody speaking even once. Each chapter is short which make it seem like the game itself is short - but by the time I reached a finale I've got solid 50 hours of playtime. Graphics are surprisingly beautiful - not something I expected to say about a remaster of a SNES game. Music is also very good. My one gripe is what a game overall is a bit too easy - combat system is interesting but there is almost no challenge outside of a very few optional bosses. The price is a bit steep for a remaster......but in this case its kinda worth it even at full price. It is a beautiful game
Live A Live is peak
This literally has to be my favorite JRPG of all time. Like... I am so awed by the approach Square Enix took here. I love the stories from each timeline, as well as the part where they bring them all together for a grand finale. What saddens me is that this game was originally released only in Japan in 1994. Thank goodness they made a remaster to spread it worldwide. W Square Enix W Game W Everything about it
Recommended Live A Live is one of those games that's much easier to appreciate once you stop expecting every chapter to be equally strong. Its greatest strength is variety. Every scenario experiments with a different setting, tone, and gameplay style. Some feel like traditional RPGs, others barely resemble one at all. That willingness to constantly reinvent itself kept me interested even when a particular chapter wasn't my favorite. Like most anthology stories, the quality isn't completely even. I found myself enjoying some chapters far more than others, but none of them overstayed their welcome. Even if one didn't quite click, I knew something entirely different was waiting next. The remake does an excellent job modernizing the original without losing what made it special. The HD-2D presentation is beautiful, the music is fantastic, and the different eras all have their own distinct identity. The final chapter is where my feelings became a little more mixed. I enjoyed seeing everything come together, but it also became the most traditional part of the game. After spending hours jumping between wildly different ideas, the ending settles into a more familiar RPG structure. It works, but I found myself more eager to finish the journey than to linger in it. I remembered enough from playing the fan translation years ago that some of the surprise was gone, and by then I felt like the game had already shown me its best ideas. Even so, I'm glad I finally experienced the remake. Live A Live feels like an important piece of RPG history—not because every chapter is perfect, but because it's willing to experiment in ways that few games still do today. Some stories will resonate more than others, but taken as a whole, it's a memorable experience that's unlike just about anything else in the genre.
So inventive and gorgeous! The artstyle alone in this game would have me coming back even if the gameplay was garbage, but luckily it's absolutely not! I started playing on Switch when it first came out and had to pick it up here on Steam when it finally hit a good sale. This game is incredible and one I'll continue coming back to for years. All the different characters play so differently so if you get a bit stale on one gameplay style you can just switch to a different character without even leaving the game! Such a cool concept! It's like a multi game pack!
6/10 - A very unique JRPG, to say the least. But not really for me - I'm a fan of large overarching stories, and this felt more like different mini games. A lot of cool ideas, but I don't think it excels in anything.
It blows my mind LIVE A LIVE is originally from 1994. It often subverts expectations in ways I wouldn't expect from games in this era. This game is ambitious, delightfully weird, and was ahead of its time in terms of storytelling. You can definitely see the influence this game had on games like Undertale and Octopath Traveler (and many others honestly).
Worth full price, a great deal on sale. Easily recommended for fans of turn-based RPGs and tactics games, and a good story. Truly a master class in music, artwork, and storytelling. A range of self-contained stories across many time periods, all with their unique spins on the mechanics - there really is something for everyone.
