This is one of my favorite fighting games ever, and I've poured so many hours into it because I find it to be currently the most fun. But, I wouldn't recommend it in its current state for people who want to get into it. Overall, one of the worst balancing I've seen in a fighting game in a long while, the mechanics have been untouched and unchanged despite multiple people begging for changes, and ranked has been consistently been getting worse and worse and it no longer feels rewarding or even good reaching Master (and higher). I love this game, I want to support it, but it's currently not in a very healthy state.

I am generally not a fan of more grounded and/or simple fighting games, but granblue was built from the ground up with things such as simple inputs in mind and it actually works great. While I still love traditional fighting game inputs, this game doesn't feel like they were "forced" in, and it ends up being a super fun and accessible fighting game. The game is gorgeous, gameplay is simple enough to pick up but deep enough to really sink your teeth into, and the community is great too. One thing I think that's underrated is the game's incredible progression and sense of being an "actual game." There's tons of fun singleplayer stuff to do, lots of cool unlockables and customization, and huge 100 player lobbies where you run around an actual world and challenge people to fight. Overall just a great fighting game, and one that I love to share with people who are new to the genre.
Great anime fighter. TONs of unique characters and a nice, long story mode for those who enjoy more of a single player experience. Very little to critique with this game, especially if you get it on a sale.
A very fundamentals-focused 2D fighter with gorgeous art, a surprisingly robust story mode, and solid online play. This is an excellent entry point if you're new to the fighting game genre. I only wish it was more popular so I'd have more diversity in opponents I'm fighting.
Hold button to block is awful
I decided to make this the first fighting game I took seriously, and I'm glad I did. It's one of the most beginner-friendly fighting games out there, and there's a lot to do and figure out as you improve. Note that it's a traditional fighter akin to Street Fighter instead of an anime fighter. Some characters have some nonsense, but overall it's decently grounded and generally very balanced. It's not perfect. I hate Brave Counters, and I hate that they're necessary. Still, if you want to get into fighting games, this is a great game to sink your time into. And even if you're used to fighting games already, this has some really fun gameplay and a huge amount of cool and fun characters. Seriously, come play.
As someone who has friends that struggle with traditional motion inputs, this game delivers on the fantasy of playing fighting games without having to deal with the skill floor required to live that dream of doing what you want to do how you want to do it. Truly a great beginner fighter. Also, its got mfin LOWAIN. What more could you ask for?
The game is really good, but the matchmaking doesn't hold a candle to sf6.
It's fun and looks good. Also has a much better design for optional, easy controls for new/casual players than the garbage that is "modern" controls in SF6.
