Even without any amount of nostalgia second Gothic plays really well and is a great fun especially coming from Gothic 1 remake. But if you dont want to suffer like i did on couple occasions (Locking yourself out of progression), you better download Union mod as well as community patch.
To add workshop support right click on game in library -> properties -> betas -> workshop Best game in the series, and that's including the G1 Remake :)
recently played the remake of the first game and i had to know what happened afterwards, still very good and challenging, hope this gets a remake as well. i was not aware of the gothic series before playing the remake and as a big fan of rpg style games i have definitely been missing out.
Played Gothic 2 and NOTR for the first time after over 20 years. Still such a fantasic RPG! And together with some mods like "Gold Remaster", DX11 and Union (plus its many Plugins), it is every much playable and enjoyable compared to other modern games!
best game i ve ever played it started when i was 7 or 8 years old and i didn t know how to do the quests because i didn t know english at all but i made so many memories with this game and i always come back to it every year to play it
Gothic II is a timeless classic that any RPG fan should experience. The Gothic series has always had a strong sense of progression and accomplishment, and in this game it is at its strongest. Starting weak, powerless, and with nothing to your name, then ending up a mighty hero makes the journey compelling. Getting there may take a long time and the path may not always be clear, but it is always challenging and rewarding. All of the gameplay aspects have been polished from the first game. No more holding one key and pressing another to perform many actions. Inventory management has taken a step forward, with the UI being much easier to navigate and displaying more information. Combat feels very similar to the first game, though it benefits from the control scheme changes. The melee weapon skills are a little odd, as your damage is essentially reduced until you gain more experience with the skill. This game offers an incredible adventure in such a small area. Every corner of the map is full of enemies, items, and quests. Exploring everything is incredibly satisfying. The story is a direct continuation of the previous game, and it is amazing to see the island of Khorinis after the barrier has fallen. I highly recommend playing Night of the Raven, as it is the definitive Gothic II experience and brings back a lot of characters from the first game. This game is difficult, far more so than the first game. But that difficulty is a large part of what makes Gothic II so memorable. Every victory feels earned, and every step of your journey from a weak outsider to a mighty hero feels like a genuine accomplishment. 9.5/10
Gothic 2 is a classic RPG that still holds up today! It's a deep and immersive experience with a rich woorld, compelling story, and challenging comba. The open woorld is vast and explorable, filled with interesting characteers, quests, and secrets to discover. The story is engaging, with meaningful choiices that impact the game's outcome. The comba can be difficult, but it's rewarding when you master it. Be prepared to grind and build your character! While the graphics are dated, the atmosphere and gameplay are timeless. If you're a fan of RPGs, Gothic 2 is a must-play. It's a true classic that offers a rewarding and unforgettable adventure. Highly recommendeed!
A classic that carries on what the first game did well. Like with Gothic 1 it doesnt really work straight out of the box on Linux. So, since it shares the same engine as the first game you will have to do the same to be able to play on Linux (and Deck in my case). Subscribe to a beta version, choose the workshop version. Then go the the workshop itself and, at least what I did was, choose a package of essential mods for the Deck. After that it all worked flawless, really.
Gothic II Gold Edition is one of those rare RPGs that I keep coming back to year after year, and I honestly think I'll still be replaying it for the rest of my life. Compared to Gothic 1, almost everything feels like a major improvement. The world is bigger, more detailed, and thanks to Night of the Raven, there's even more content to explore. Khorinis feels alive, with NPCs following daily routines and a world that rewards curiosity. Every cave, forest path, and forgotten corner feels like it was placed there for a reason. The progression is where opinions may differ. Night of the Raven makes the early game brutally difficult. Learning Points are precious, enemies hit hard, and every decision matters. New players might find it frustrating, especially compared to the vanilla version, which is much more forgiving. But for me, that struggle is also part of what makes finally becoming powerful so satisfying. The combat is old-school, the controls can feel clunky by modern standards, and it's definitely eurojank. But it's the kind of eurojank that has charm, personality, and a sense of adventure that many modern RPGs still fail to capture. If you're a fan of Piranha Bytes games, old-school RPGs, or simply want to experience one of the greatest eurojank classics ever made, Gothic II Gold Edition is an easy recommendation. I'll probably be back in Khorinis again next year.
После прохождения ремейка, заценил 2 готику. Играл в версию с дополнением "ночь ворона". Данная часть, однозначно превосходит 1 часть(ее ремейк в том числе). Рекомендую, но без модов, естественно - не играбельно)
