A Masterpiece of Disappointment
Gothic 3 is an open-world action RPG that directly continues the story of the Nameless Hero after the previous entry. An incredibly disappointing finale to an immersive series. I'm a huge Piranha Bytes fan with a massive tolerance for AA Eurojunk, but Gothic 3 still let me down. If you absolutely must play it, do yourself a favor and play as a mage - the melee combat is fundamentally broken. Pros: Vast, handcrafted open world. Strong, dedicated modding community. Good optimization (nowadays). Amazing soundtrack. Cons: Non-existent main story, boring sidequests, and a very disappointing ending. Extremely awful melee combat and boring loot. Mediocre voice acting. Unresponsive controls and terribly unbalanced enemies. A lot of retcons and a questionable change in art style.
Even thou it's disliked by many Gothic 1 and Gothic 2 fans, I still consider Gothic 3 as one of the best rpg games of all time. With little bit of tinkering with patches (Installing Community Patch 1.75 and Paraller Universe Patch 1.1.1.) this game becomes smooth and playable, despite being mess on release back in 2006. World is couple of times larger than its predecesors G1 and G2, it's beautiful to explore and find it's secrets, music is top notch, it's Kai Rozenkranz in the end. Story is not so strong like it used to be previously, but if you ignore it sligthly, you can enjoy and find interesting bits. I highly recommend Gothic 3 and I give it 8/10 after patching it properly!
Peak of RPG genre.
Легенда
Not quite as good as 1 and 2 but still nice especially since the controls are a bit better here
Просто класика
I played this originally when it came out after being a hardcore Gothic 1/2 lover. It was a rough launch, with countless bugs, performance issues and the dreaded stun-lock issue. I very vaguely remember siding with the Orcs since I was unfamiliar with the way the game played out and they are pretty much the first interactions you have. This time around and having another 20 years of gaming experience, it was really easy to navigate game systems and more or less interact with everything and everyone throughout the world. I was extremely surprised by how big the world was and honestly believe that I had to of barely explored any of it compared to this playthrough. I followed a community guide to get it patched up to date to make sure I could play it with the best QoL. Even with the latest patches, there's a ton of annoyances. A big one is single core use resulting in really bad FPS slowdowns in some areas when using spells (mind you, I have a 5090 setup so this is frustrating but understandable given the lack of multi-processor support at the time). The targeting system will constantly piss you off and companions that are following you will constantly get lost or stuck. But hell, I still loved the crap outta this game even with all of its annoying MMO-like fetch quests. There's still a lot of charm to the hand-placed locations and enemies and the always great-feeling power progression existing in PB games.
