how on earth is this so much worse than isonzo...
I'll start with the negatives and the areas that desperately need fixing before getting to the good stuff: Squad Matchmaking: A pre-made squad system needs to be added ASAP. We should be able to party up with our Steam friends right from the main menu and queue into matches together. Role & Class Balancing: Every squad must be required to have an Officer. Overpicked roles like the Sniper need strict per-match limits. Implement a cooldown or rotation system: someone who played Sniper in the previous round shouldn't be allowed to pick it again in the next one. Getting a critical role shouldn't just be down to who clicks the fastest at the start of a match. Player Base Reality Check: This is a milsim, not a fast-paced arcade shooter like BF1, CS, or Valorant. If you can't wrap your head around tactical, slow-paced gameplay and teamwork, stay away—or honestly, just ♥♥♥♥ off. That being said, the game itself is genuinely phenomenal: The realism and the sheer chaos of war are captured brilliantly. The tension during objective captures is unreal, and having Zeybek music kick in during those fierce, contested zone fights gets the adrenaline pumping like nothing else. Once the squad matchmaking and role restrictions are sorted out, this game will be in a league of its own.
I've played a ton of Isonzo both on console and pc and have to say this game feels a lot different than the previous game in ways that I quite enjoy. All guns are projectile based rather than hitscan with projectile speed and drop based on the weapon, revolvers and pistols will have much harsher ballistics than rifles and blackpowder rifles and carbines seem to have different ballistics as well. Combine that with the new suppression and weapon handling system it lends the game to being less fast paced that Isonzo (although quick aim reflexes are still useful). I imagine that many are talking about the suppression system, how it will slow down reloads, make your hands wobble, and darkens your screen at the highest amount, even a single shot can make you flinch harshly and disrupt your aim. The weapon handling system is an important part of it too, you can mount automatically to certain surfaces to dampen recoil and weapon sway, as well as hold your breath to decrease sway even more. Suppression has a negative effect on weapon sway as well as aiming for a long time without surface mounting your weapon to simulate your character's arms getting tired. I'd say the whole system is amazing to play with and helps to slow down the game in enjoyable ways. I would get into more systems but I feel that the ones I have typed about are the most important to me. One gripe I have is that the strength of pistols and revolvers overshadow rifles quite a lot and I hope they balance things to make the slower combat more rewarding without completely destroying faster playstyles. I definitely recommend this game if you are interested in Milsim games and tactical shooters as it is a much more accessible one than the more hardcore ones such as Arma, but also stands on its own.
Definitely one of the best WW1 era shooters on the market. However, it has quite a few issues to me. First is pistols feel too meta for what they should be, if they were kept to a few select classes like HMG, Officer, sniper and bomber, then they would feel a lot more balanced. Second is customization, a lot of the clothing seems sort of loose for a soldier, also more battle wear would be appreciated. Third is how OP the attacking team is, the amount of tickets feels like too much. For me, currently the game is an 8/10, but if alot of these issues can be fixed over the games lifespan than I would consider it a 10/10.
