The story is really cool and the game is interesting but it's such an absolute chore to get through and I never beat it and likely never will because I came across a weird road block that I don't feel is worth the effort to try and fix. It's a shame because I was really enjoying the story.
One of the finest point and click adventure games ever made. When it comes to Lucasarts vs Sierra adventures I almost always gravitate toward Lucasarts. However this game is a big exception. I would say its the best adventure game Sierra ever made and rank it with the best adventure games Lucasarts have ever created too. The soundtrack by Robert Holmes is one of the best of its era.
As much as I adored this game's story, I also don't think Sierra On-Line puzzles are really for me. I love point and click adventure games more than any other genre but Sierra puzzles really do get too convoluted for me, to the point where I am almost constantly using a guide and at that point, am I really playing the game anymore? I am sorry Roberta Williams, it seems I am simply too weak. But again, everything else is amazing, if you're willing to either spent weeks trying to figure certain things out, or don't mind often getting guidance from a guide, I definitely recommend this game.
Will always be my favorite point and click adventure game of all time.
I stopped playing this game after about an hour of frustration. I remember playing it 30 years ago and enjoying it, but now I am too used to games with better visuals and the ease of the cursor changing when it hit something to look at or pick up. Here, I had to click on every item in every scene to see if it was possible to interact with. And since the screen is so pixelated, it is tedious. I had to consult a walkthrough three times and then I got a fatal error and had to go back to my last saved game. Sorry, I cannot deal with this.
I love this game. The story is very entertaining. It is very, much a product of it's time. It does not hold up as well as Kings quest or Space Quest.

Carrying on the tradition of Sierra creating well written and innovative games; Gabriel Knight - Sins of the Father is a enthralling journey of a struggling writer investigating the world of voodoo in New Orleans after voodoo inspired murders start appearing in that city. Combining superb characterization with detective work and the supernatural, players become hooked on Gabriel Knight's story and impelled to follow his story to the end. Rated 7 out of 10.
“Congratulations, you’re a broke novelist who owns a failing bookstore… and somehow you’re also the chosen one to solve voodoo murders in New Orleans.” Spent half the game flirting badly with women. Spent the other half realizing my grandma’s attic has more plot twists than Netflix. Accidentally learned more about voodoo than I did in high school history. Graphics? Eh. Voice acting? RIP Tim Curry. But the story? Chef’s kiss. Final thoughts: 10/10 would click on every pixel again just to hear Gabriel say “Schattenjäger” in the most dramatic way possible.
I played a lot of the original Sierra games when I was a kid, but never played this one (probably due to the adult themes). My daughter insisted I buy this series because I "don't know all the answers". Like the story, the fact that it has some well named actors doing the voices was awesome. The ending was too quick for my taste, but I liked it overall.
