The software is obtuse to use and a little clunky, but as a regular user of Hammer Editor (another ancient piece of level editing software) it only took me about a half-hour to figure the basics out. If you're passionate about designing your own racetracks but don't know how to use modelling programs like Blender, this may be the program for you. Just don't expect any developer support, as it seems the creator has a history of not being helpful.
I quite like this program but had to say I don't recommend just because it is so buggy. It is actually a good piece of software but very poorly optimized. I have a reasonably high spec computer which handles game dev in Unreal engine among other things, yet this fairly basic piece of software is crashing constantly. You need to back up everything multiple times because sometimes your track will be corrupted after crashing and you lose hours of work. It moves at a snails pace, sometimes freezing for minutes while it loads textures and such. Move one landscape vertex and wait 30 seconds or more for it to update, etc. The tools are really good and you can pretty much do anything you can think of quite quickly and easily (in theory), but sometimes they just don't work, for example the texture paint feature for me would sometimes work and sometimes not, I would be in the middle of using it and it would just stop working, stuff like that is common with this program. I got insufficient memory crashes all the time even though I'd usually have more than 20gb of unused RAM. The Xpacker system is irritating and cumbersome and I often found it easier to use another texture in BTB then change it in the output folder afterwards. It has the potential to be really good and I spent a lot of time in it, but it has too many problems to the point where I don't really think it should be on the steam marketplace. It's OK at first but as the project gets bigger it becomes unusable. If I understand correctly the dev does not support it anymore because he is focused on RTB and so will never fix any of the numerous issues. That's why I can't really recommend it.
Works pretty great for what it is. Some of the settings aren't super intuative, it takes some time and playing around to learn each tool. I've used it for Richard Burns Rally, and its very easy to make stages. The detail is time consuming, but its really easy to lay a track out and test it as you go.
handy for ac
cant export the tracks to anything
This software does exactly what it is supposed to do. Most software I come across; comes with claims of what it can do, some of which bear out, some of which don't.. Usually I find myself happy if it even approaches what it implies it can do. I had seen a few tracks that looked as if they were spline created, but that also contained the terrain and sides of the road built exactly as far as tolerances and doing good UV work on them. I didn't know what they were created with., but I knew there was the possibility of good software that could do that. This is it. Build your road, add your terrain sides, or walls, and then you can go further and add houses, trees, grass, and on and on. Excellent piece of software that will speed your game making times up. Love it. Great job. After several months of use the game stopped working. After asking for tech help, and trying different configurations, I decided it just wasn't going to work. Then I realized I had swapped out monitors, larger monitors in a six monitor array. Besides that I could think of nothing I had done, except, the main monitor had been the middle bottom, now I had made it the bottom left. In any case I switch the main monitor to the middle bottom again and it is working. Just in case you've had this problem too, I thought I would list it. Still an excellent, time saving piece of software.
I HAD BEEN CREATING A CIRCUIT FOR 12 HOURS AND WHEN I SAVE IT THIS ♥♥♥♥ CRASH
You better have some great intuition if you want to learn how to use this I'll try to learn blender instead, probably way harder but at least there's plenty of resources to learn from out there
Dopo 18 ore a costruire il mio circuito, si è corrotto il salvataggio!
