Fight your way across the celestial world of Avalice where cats are green, motorcycles drive up walls and monster girls do most of the buttkicking! Freedom Planet is a cartoony, combat-based platform adventure that pits a spunky dragonoid and her friends against an alien attack force.

Sonic-like? Will that one day be a genre like Metroidvania or Rogue-like? Regardless of whatever this is called, Freedom Planet is an incredibly solid example of how to make a Sonic-like. It captures both the sense of speed and visual spectacle of the early Sonic games, while also crafting levels built upon a precise platforming focus. While I would more easily recommend the second game above this one (fr Freedom Planet 2 is so good and so underrated please play it if you have not done so already), this first game still offers more than enough to love of its own merits.
This game is just straight-up not fun. The bosses are awful and there are a whole lot of them. Expect to die to unfair BS over and over again and only succeed when you get lucky.
HOLY PEAK!! I'm returning to this game in the bigger 2026 and I STIILLL love this game, I have yet to play the 2nd one cause I'm broke as heck right now. But I swear, some day ima play it. Anyways, this game is great and I REAALLY recommend it to anyone who loves platformers or games like Sonic the Hedgehog. Its fast paced with a great story and lots of BEAUTIFUL pixel art to enjoy. (I got the 2nd game a day later lol)
Still waiting for the 3ds port
i like milla

Esta funny jugar con Joy-con. (Ventajas de manos pequeñas)
Freedom Planet is easily one of the best 2D platformers I've ever played and does a fantastic job building on the foundation laid by Sonic the Hedgehog. The gameplay, music, and level design are all incredible, standing toe-to-toe with its influences. The addition of difficulty options is also a welcome change as someone who found Sonic games to be too easy sometimes. The only things holding Freedom Planet back from being perfect are the frequent instances of lag/dropped frames and the execution of the story. I'm willing to overlook the story considering how good the gameplay is, though. I appreciate the devs gave it a shot, but TBH, the dialogue came off as tropey and cheesey, with the story being mostly forgettable. However, the performance issues really aren't excusable given this is a game built on a 20-year-old engine and my PC goes above and beyond the minimum system requirements. It didn't matter if I had V-sync or G-sync on or off, I was experiencing lag and dropped frames at least once per level, usually more. All things considered, Freedom Planet is still an easy 9/10 and a must-play for Sonic the Hedgehog fans.
i mean it's pretty good, and the graphics are charming
