I really tried to enjoy this game but it's just not fun. Kitsune Tails has some of the worst level design for a game of this style. The early levels started pretty nice but as early as world 2, it quickly became a mix of Kaizo Mario rom hacks difficulty and Syobon Action comically unfair hazards and pitfalls. Some levels feature big foreground elements completely obstructing your view which is just awful. Levels length spans from a very short straight line level with few jumps to multiple endless rooms full of lava and spike pits as if made to be as frustrating as possible, The movement feels floaty and imprecise, which mixed with very tight platforming makes it quite unenjoyable. The voice acting is a mixed bag, with Kiri's (the orange kitsume) and Yuzu's (the purple kitsune) acting being decent while the rest of the cast and random characters is pretty bad, but not because of the subpar acting but due to pretty awful writing... The gameplay design choice is very strange considering you have to replay the entire game again as Kiri after finishing the game as Yuzu, with Kiri's move set and abilities being way more fun with dashes and wall jumps. it almost feels like the game was designed around Kiri's playstyle but you are forced to play the entire game as the more inferior and less fun to play character first. Music and art are both pretty great which is appreciated. Modding support is also nice. Works perfectly fine on Steam Deck.

Fun game and I enjoyed the cute story. The first half of the game is a more traditional Mario Bros 3-like platformer, while the second half adds a few different movement mechanics to keep things fresh (which was my favorite part of the game).
The basic pitch for Kitsune Tails is "Super Mario Bros. 3 with lesbian foxgirls" and while that's both true and great, I feel like it also undersells the quality of the game itself. While it doesn't have quite the tightness of Mario's controls (and that's not a mark against the game, very few things do) it still feels great to play and takes the design philosophy of introducing a level idea or mechanic in one stage and then iterating on it over the next few before moving on to something else to keep things fresh. There is also a flow within each level where you will find yourself chaining dashes and jumps in a way that will make you feel like a pro even if you're really more of a baseline competent platformer player like myself. The game is also very forgiving when that flow makes you think you're better than you are and you end up hitting an enemy or falling into a pit instead of executing the cool moves you thought you had figured out. The understanding of what makes the mechanics of these kinds of titles fun to play and replay is best demonstrated in the optional "kaizo" levels in the postgame where you are introduced to some of the basic techniques used in both speedruns and challenge hacks which engaged me enough to at least start to dabble in them despite the fact that I have otherwise never been interested in playing those kinds of things personally (and didn't manage to go through with beating all of the ones included here). Back to the lesbians, the game also uses its framework as a platformer to tell a really sweet tale of friendship, self discovery, and romance blossoming where you might least expect it. Absolutely recommended to fans of Mario style platformers, cute lesbian stories, and people who fall somewhere in the Venn diagram between those two.
Love this game, its a great smb3 style platformer, voice acting isnt the best and made me embarassed screensharing it but it had a lot of charm, could tell this was made by people who loved what they were making. It has two acts, both fun in their own right as they change how the games played, act 1 is very smb3 coded in gameplay, and act 2 instead of powerups get an evolving moveset. I personally loved both acts. It can be hard at times and the final 4 bonus stages are BRUTAL. and those bonus stages arent for everyone, game does warn you. Id recommend if you want a fun 2d platformer to play on PC
Pretty decent smb3 style platformer :3 I really enjoyed the art style & presentation (The CRT filter is one of the best i've seen in a indie title) The music was decent but wish there was more as it got kind of repetitive. The game starts out easy but definitely ramps up a lot in difficulty. I also really enjoyed the second playable character which had some very fun movement/combat abilities to use. The story was decent I enjoyed it and its cool to have a aro-ace protaganist. Sadly the level design & sometimes a lack of new enemies/scenery can make it feel repetitive There were some pretty hard levels and the platforming itself could feel a bit tighter (you are kinda floaty) but still a quite enjoyable game! It was very cute & wholesome x3 Maybe I will come back for the bonus world despite how difficult it is. 7.5/10
Leave SMB3 out of the fridge for way too long and then sink your teeth into it.
💕 Pontos Positivos:
💸 Vale a compra?:
✅- Infelizmente não vale apena, jogo muito decepcionante (Infelizmente não consigo pedir o reembolso 😑) A minha nota pra esse jogo e 3.5/10 (ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻

⠄⠄⠄⠄⣠⣴⣿⣿⣿⣷⣦⡠⣴⣶⣶⣶⣦⡀⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄ ⠄⠄⠄⣴⣿⣿⣫⣭⣭⣭⣭⣥⢹⣟⣛⣛⣛⣃⣀⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄ ⠄⣠⢸⣿⣿⣿⣿⢯⡓⢻⠿⠿⠷⡜⣯⠭⢽⠿⠯⠽⣀⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄ ⣼⣿⣾⣿⣿⣿⣥⣝⠂⠐⠈⢸⠿⢆⠱⠯⠄⠈⠸⣛⡒⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣶⣶⣭⡭⢟⣲⣶⡿⠿⠿⠿⠿⠋⠄⠄⣴⠶⠶⠶⠶⠶⢶⡀ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⢟⣛⠿⢿⣷⣾⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣷⡄⠄⢰⠇⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠈⣧ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⣷⡹⣭⣛⠳⠶⠬⠭⢭⣝⣛⣛⣛⣫⣭⡥⠄⠸⡄⣶⣶⣾⣿⣿⢇⡟ ⠿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣦⣭⣛⣛⡛⠳⠶⠶⠶⣶⣶⣶⠶⠄⠄⠄⠙⠮⣽⣛⣫⡵⠊⠁ ⣍⡲⠮⣍⣙⣛⣛⡻⠿⠿⠿⠿⠿⠿⠿⠖⠂⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⣸⠄⠄⠄⠄ ⣿⣿⣿⣶⣦⣬⣭⣭⣭⣝⣭⣭⣭⣴⣷⣦⡀⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠠⠤⠿⠦⠤⠄⠄
Super fun SMB3-like! I love the queer representation in the storyline <3 The level design is great, I can see the inspiration from kaizo level design as well (and certainly in the postgame levels!) The town and minigames are a nice touch. Would highly recommend!
great visual aesthetic but in gameplay it just feels like mario but less intriguing and really sluggish/unweildy, powerups appear a lot less and all the secrets i found always only lead to coins, no warps or secret collectibles, i just feel like theres a lack of adventure.
