The Sierra Research Facility in Alaska was once a beacon of cutting-edge research and development, but the dinosaurs in the base escaped, and the base has been cut off from the mainland. Much of the base has been flooded with seawater. Jack Allen is part of an expedition sent out to investigate the Sierra disaster. But when their boat gets attacked by a Megalodon, the crew becomes shipwrecked on the shores of Sierra and must find a way to escape.
As a member of this team, you will delve into the dark secrets of the facility and uncover the truth behind the Dino outbreak. With a gripping narrative and heart-pumping action, Fossilfuel 2 will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. The game has a heavy focus on underwater horror and has a massive cast of dinosaurs including Utahraptor and Spinosaurus.
With a wide range of weapons and challenging AI, each encounter with the Dinosaurs will be unique. In Fossilfuel 2, no two playthroughs are the same.
Beware, only purchase if on sale, with the bugs and the jank it's not worth more than $5.00. I know it's an indie shop but many of the basics are missing like you cannot skip cutscenes that come out of nowhere and just destroy the immersion, basic bindings with your mouse are not supported, framerate drops during battle with no sense hit boxes really shows how much of an amateur project this really is so $5.00 feels about right just for the graphics. Everything is in place for a really great game if only the dev would polish this a little bit more, feels more like a demo or a sandbox the dev is learning in. We will see if Fossilfuel 3 has taught the dev any of the lesson he should have learned from the first two games, I might try the demo if I'm really bored, if the dev has learned and improved I will leave a glowing great review and promote it for them but if its still the same janky crap I will continue to warn the masses to avoid
Overall would not recommend for $20 - the game is way too short and janky for that price. If you can get it cheap though it is a neat little survival horror. You can tell the dev cared and put love into it. I'd prob give it a 6/10 Forewarning the optimization is quite bad so that could also be a reason to stay away if you are on a weaker system. I had to play on medium graphics settings on a 9070XT to get stable frames.
For a solo project it's quite good at times and I can feel like a lot of heart and soul went into this game. The horror elements really shine through and you can really feel the inspiration from games like Dino Crisis and Resident Evil. The FPS gameplay is alright, but by the end of it you have so much ammo that I ended up selling most of it for magnum ammo. It is a little messy in parts particularly the short platforming sections and one specific boss that required using an item with a 30 second cooldown at least 6 or 7 times. It got so tedious even the music stopped playing halfway into the fight! Despite that I still enjoyed the intro of the game and for a game made by 1 person I'd say it's a solid effort! Just know if you decide to get this game that its not quite polished, but if you like dinosaur games the way I do then it might be worth giving a shot!
Other than a few little technical things this game is fun could use a little better direction but still fun! Dino shooting is always fun though you did make me kill my favorite the Spino :(! Had no technical issues what so ever! Can't wait for hopefully 3!
A good survival horror game. Good gameplay and a good storyline. If you like survival horror and jurassic park vibes, definitely buy it. It has different endings that makes it worth to play it more than one time. *Sounds 9/10 *Gameplay 8.5/10 *Graphics 8/10 *Old school horror vibes 8.5/10
Low budget game, that was made with passion. Has a lot of dinos. Its fun. No human enemies. Has 3 unique endings that worths the checkpoint reload, though 1 needs the master keycard. And has free dlcs. Much more satisfying than the previous game. But i can only recommend this on a big sale as its quite pricey. However, the graphics are pretty average, and doesn't feels like ue5. There's not that many flooded areas, and most of them feels like it was meant to be filled with water, places like aquarium and pools, you could easily walk through the whole facility. The "heavy focus on underwater horror" is basically that you get 5 minute of swim time at most, mostly without scuba gear, and could kill 3 stationary fish that the game has to offer, that are stashed away in optional dead ends, and dies from 1 pistol round. The dev promises for the main game a solid 12 plus hours of content. However in 9h, I beat 50 waves with 2 restarts, tried out the sandbox mode, beat fully the spy games (weird name), then finished the main game with all 3 endings plus the tutorial. All these on hardest difficulty, which is called brutal (there's primal too, but its locked at the beginning and for my understanding it only adds extra enemies, which even makes less sense to add 3 achievements, only to this 1 bonus difficulty..). So if you dont want to explore every corner and collect every document, then you'd be done in like 3 hours. And just to add salt to the wound, you can beat the game under an hour if you're going for the s rank. Inventory is terribly buggy. If you plan to buy ammo, then you are forced to exit the shop every time, since it wont combine the ammo. If your inventory is full, then you can't pickup ammo either, since it can't combine, unless you discard your own ammo, pickup the ammo, then pickup the ammo that you just dropped. Same with medkit. Also you can't pickup money if inventory is full, which doesn't even go to your inventory. Wtf. There are some vents to hide in, but either the dinos will track you down and kill you anyway without any issue or it will make them get stuck inside the walls as the game overwrites their route straight to the vent. Ladders have constant tutorial, and climbing one can even launch yoi backwards, softlocking you. Game has only 5 save files, and even the dlc uses the same ones, so youll need to overwrite the maingame. Puzzles the game offers: a simple math, easy lockpicking, pressing space 3 times on computer, aka. hacking, turning 2 valves, picking up objects, and shooting a panel thats directly in front of you. Story is not much. Pick up 3 source codes that are already conveniently put on some desks for you to pick it up, then choose who you give it to. Weapons can dissappear from your hands, character forgots how to run. Has no keybinding. In camera mode you can't change directly to the 4th weapon, only to 1-3. Game is pretty much linear and small. You dont get to decide where to go or in which order. You get 1 door thats open, and you open the rest 1 by 1. Game is rather an action shooter than horror. The only horror elements are the price and the inventory. The sandbox mode could use a god mode, improved buildings, and the ability to undo blocks Spoiler for the endings: The only way out is 2 fishing boats, that somehow transported those 100 soldiers that you meet at the end. If you betray the soldiers, then you take a boat to fight the megalodon, while the boat drives itself, even sideways. Or you dont betray them, take both boats with 2 men each and fight the megalodon by yourself, while the other boat stays still and does nothing. Or you get the secret ending with a secret helicopter that the army is unaware of, only to find your army boss waiting at the heli to fight you, instead of waiting at the docks. Was actually planning to write a short and positive review, until I saw the false claims that the dev decided to put in the description again, they are just wrong and misleading.
Way better than the first one. The game was enjoyable and longer than I expected. There's something about being swarmed by raptors that is terrifying. Nothing too special with graphics but runs pretty good and has a pretty linear story. It's got some cool guns and hit registration is on point. There is a DLC campaign and horde mode. Both are pretty fun and give achievements for completion. There are much better games for $20 though.
Extremely poorly optimized to the point it won't even run properly on my PC.
