Pretty fun boomer shooter with a cool comic book art style and a great Lovecraft-inspired atmosphere. The guns feel powerful, the combat is fast, and it does a good job of keeping the action entertaining. It definitely has some flaws—enemy encounters can get repetitive, the difficulty be very overwhelming of enimies, and a few levels drag on longer than they should. Still, the strong art direction and satisfying gameplay make it easy to overlook those issues and make an enjoyable experience for anyone who enjoys old-school shooters.
I got this game for pretty cheap. I wanted to give it a try and spent around 20 hours to complete it. If i finished it, why am i giving a thumbs down? It's a meh game, the main selling point is obviously the graphics, which are fantastic and I must admit they are cool to look at, but for example the enemy variety feels dull, I do like some minor details here and there, but the game feels extremely mediocre. It felt too long and too boring. The gun upgrades feel like the meme "would you rather have 1 dollar or 2 dollars". It's just that in a normal game you'd think upgrading a gun into the final upgrade would make it more powerful or interesting, but I feel like some upgrades are just not worth it, and their previous upgrades are much better. I normally enjoy boomer shooters, but this one is a meh. Get on sale, won't 100% it
Forgive Me Father is a uniquely styled boomer-shooter, combining relentless-haste gunplay of titles like DOOM, classic Wolfenstein and Serious Sam, uniquely synthesized into a H.P. Lovecraft's cosmic horror-madness descent. The story is simple - you return to your hometown and find it tainted by an ethereal cult of Cthulhu, demanding you to rend and shred to reclaim the sanctity of your domicile. You will have to fight through an artistically-diverse region consumed by madness, and defended by plague-ridden townsfolk, corrupted cultists, grotesque eldritch abominations, satanic sorcerers, horrific abominations fleshy-steel, and unknowable cosmic beasts - all in an effort to take down the sinister forces behind the corruption of your town. Visually, every story chapter offers something uniquely novel, and no two areas feel the same or recycled in any way. The hand-drawn comic-book art style gives every opponent, weapon of foe or ally alike, and environment a striking identity. Blood splatters precipitate from thick ink outlines, while interactable elements resemble comic panels bursting to life. Curiously, this exact hand-drawn style evokes the feeling of being stuck in a nightmarish reality-bending dream, rather than an anchored physical space. Advancement in the story supplies access to a branching ability tree, offering diverse perk and bizarre Eldritch weapon augmentations, ironically tying directly into the Lovecraftian themes of sacrificing sanity in exchange for forbidden power. Meanwhile, killing bosses affords you an extra skill respec - this offers enough statistical and visual customization, to keep combat evolving without drowning the protagonist in dreadful monotony. Similar to Wolfenstein or modern Doom titles, levels encourage exploration as you will need to find door keys to advance; alongside a plethora of secret loot rooms and covertly hidden weapons are also available to be found. You are encouraged to chain kills to engage with the Madness system - the more and quicker you kill, the more damage you deal to continue the carnage. Ultimately, FMF succeeds in breathing fresh life into the boomer shooter genre, which nowadays unfortunately lacks both profusion of worthy titles, and Lovecraftian shoot-them up story settings in this genre.
Nicely made old-school Lovecraftian FPS. The gameplay is top notch, the music is great, the story can be better. It's great overall.
O JOGO TEM AS PIORES ARENAS DE BOSS FIGHT QUE JA VI As artes desenhadas são lindas D+, porem, o map design do jogo é ruizinho.
There are many games like this, retro, clones, remakes etc, this one goes far above the average, so as many low value products, a must for FPS players who loves something different. This one is well made, something unique and makes a serious and considerable standalone release to old games like Blood and DN3D. You may choose in between 2 characters, a priest what most of players did choose for the first run, so as a reporter lady, if you would decide to do it again on the game+, where countless options and cheats can be selected. So, take your arms and go thru it, it starts harmless but goes to a tough linear way through all sorts of levels with one foe more crazy than the other one, so be on the readiness, as this one is not easy to master in any difficulty above normal. The sounds and graphics are great, requiring lots of resources from the GPU, the effects are stunning and the atmosphere does not leave questions open, as you are shackled into it. There is so much variety and surprises to come, it really males fun to so it once, and perhaps a second time to catch all achievements, along with the hordes levels. 2 complete runs gives you 24 hours fun, so as the variety in perking-up your gear and character, what wisely to be chosen. Get into this crazyness of meeting bizzar things, what you might never have met in other, similar games of this genre. Very recommended for the old school players who look for decent modernity.
Game's not a bad boomer shooter. OST's good stuff, the setting and level design are pretty well made. The voice lines are a little samey after a while. I very much liked that shooting some enemies in certain spots change the enemy. One major issue I ran into, the game sometimes refused to register right or left clicks. I could never work out why this was happening, but it caused me to take multiple instances of damage that I should not have, and even killed me during one arena fight. A minor grip I have is Journalist's dialogue. The Priest's dialogue and interactions over the beginning to middle of the game reflect the morale dilemma between the situation he is now in and his faith, while also being exposed to the eldritch-esque madness. This changes in the latter half of the game. The Journalist starts off being joyous that she's exploding heads. She is arrogant and full of herself. It struck me as unfitting for the situation. She did not care about any murder she commit. Game's not bad. Just a couple of issues.
