About
A plethora of powerful swordplay techniques and Eikonic abilities lie within Clive's remit—and it is up to you to decide which ones you wish to learn or upgrade. If you're having trouble choosing, upgrades can be unlocked automatically.
Story-focused mode is recommended for those players who are less comfortable with action games and wish to focus more on the game's story elements. In this mode, Clive will automatically evade some attacks, and epic Eikonic combos can be triggered with simple button presses. Action-focused mode, where Clive's every action is controlled by the player, is available for those who are confident in their skill—or want to test it.

But a shadow of former games. Not a RPG anymore, just boring hack and slash.
Honestly, this doesn't feel like an FF game. It feels like a western developer got sub-contracted to create the game however they want, as long as they keep to the theme of having crystals and certain characters. The story itself is fine, but the gameplay just feels unsatisfactory. Action itself is fine, but there is a complete lack of party mechanics and customization save for the skills (which is very very limited). You have no control over other characters' equipment or skills. how they fight, their health... Zero, nothing! And your own character's equipment is simply a linear progression without any choices. Accessories have minimal impact on combat. Even free gacha games like Genshin Impact has more depth than this game. And the graphics optimization is atrocious. I could play FFVII rebirth without any issue at all, but this game keeps giving me single digit framerate when I fast travel to Lostwing and Eastpool. Only get this game at a discount, not at full price!

Probably the best FF game I've ever played. One of the best single-player RPGs I've ever played as well, SPECIFICALLY from a story/lore perspective. The combat is **fine**. This is a cutscene simulator through and through, but if that's your jam then you'll love this. There's actually so much going on in the story and with all of the character development that it keeps the game moving very quickly. I think the devs realized if they dragged out any single encounter more than normal (like it feels with most games), the game would take hundreds of hours to complete. This keeps the game feeling fresh and not a chore. I put 30 hours into NieR:Automata and I was ready to be done with it at 30 hours, even though I enjoyed it immensely. It feels like I could put another 60 into FFXVI before I'd be ready to put it down, even though the combat is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I haven't finished the game at the time of this review. I don't expect any major decisions to be made on my part. It's literally a cutscene simulator with seemingly mindless tab-targeting button-mashing combat between each.
Don't bother if you're on Linux, especially with older cards. Poorly managed VRAM means the game will lock up randomly with no real fix. You can lower all of your settings and hope the game plays nice, but 10 hours in, I hit a sequence in which you can't save where the game locked up 5 times in a row. On top of that, as a "Triple-A" game, it's all cutscenes and pointless quick-time events. Ignoring my crashes, I've probably got 8 hours of game time which probably includes as many as three hours of play time. Run down a hallway. Face a few mobs where you hit the same buttons over and over. Watch a cutscene. Run down a hallway. Face a big boss during which you hit the same buttons again, but this time for longer. Watch a cutscene in which you have to play Dragon's Lair and hit buttons, so you're not even allowed to just watch the cutscenes. ...run down a hallway.
Easily in the bottom five of the series. Side quests go nowhere, the pacing is stop start, the story is an incoherent mess that drops and adds plot lines at random, the gameplay is just okay, and there's no depth to equipment.
Absolute ass port to PC. I have an RTX 5070, 12 gigs of Vram, 32 gigs of DDR5 ram, and installed it on an TimeTec SSD. Barely hit 30 fps half of the time on the recommended settings it gave my PC.
