Prices
The United States storefront in every case, so this compares stores and not countries.
Prices
Each in the currency that store quoted — not converted: the gap between two rows is the publisher's pricing, not an exchange rate.
14 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
Availability
We put this game to every storefront we collect. A market that answered not sold has told us something about the game; a market we never asked has not, and the two are never drawn the same.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 2.33/day in the week to Aug 4 → 2.71/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Aug 20: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

this game is borderline unplayable on my deck. i set it down or put it in sleep and the graphics cut out and i have yet to figure out how to fix it. so a softlock. autosave seems to be broken too. otherwise its fine i guess if i never stop playing until i hit a save point.
First run in 2025; started playing in order the entire series blind in 2022. I had some trouble with combat system that I had to take a rest from the game, I didn't enjoy the draw system and spamming guardians. Restarted some month later with story focused approach, I dind't love it anyway but somehow enjoyed the journey. Still, I can see why it's appreciated by those who played it at the time.
Final Fantasy VIII: Remastered

The middle-child of the PS1 era
Even though it's the odd man out of the three PS1 classics, it's still one of my favorite FF's. The gameplay is famously divisive because of the junction and draw systems which can be cryptic and vague for beginners, but once you grasp the mechanics and learn how to take advantage, its one of the best and most satisfying FF's to master. In large part due to Triple Triad and all the ways you can break the game with cards. As many have pointed out, the Remaster does have a problem with its higher quality character models clashing with the blurry, unfocused backgrounds. For me, I did some tinkering with ReShade to get the game looking decent. (There are upscale mods out there for those who want to go that route, but the largest one in development is currently Patreon only). There are also some QoL additions like speed boost and no encounters. I also modded the UI to a nice blue. It's "BLUI" on NexusMods and looks great. (Isn't it wild how we went from a fully customizable, vibrant, colorful menu system in 7 to... dull gray?) I will always love coming back to this game. And this time, I finally went all the way 100%. FF8 holds its own as a true hall of fame JRPG.
9/10
Squall and Rinoa are awesome and so its Triple Triad. Zell is cool too, oh and the music. Uhhh yeah yup that's the awesome parts. We all love the Junction System here.
Why does it keep crashing on steam decks? And I cant find the proton launch option the discussions are saying to try. I tried this game in 2011 an gave up after disc 1. Now I try again and have crashes. I'll put a thumbs down at this rate. I already played FF 1 through 13, but 8 is the last one.
Worked originally. Left for a while and come back and now get crashes every 30 minutes. Tried a few fixes and nothing. Can't give this a good review until this is sorted on Steamdeck.
Game is straight up a banger!
