Prices
Each in the currency that store quoted — not converted: the gap between two rows is the publisher's pricing, not an exchange rate.
Availability
We put this game to every storefront we collect. A market that answered not sold has told us something about the game; a market we never asked has not, and the two are never drawn the same.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 1.89/day in the week to Aug 4 → 2.57/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,402 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

14 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Aug 22: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

too many people hating on this gem
While being considered the black sheep in the franchise with its progression system with weapon and magic efficiencies alongside with notoriously high encounter rates (coming from a handful of classic final fantasy games), it's feels somewhat unique as they're experimenting with different ideas that would at one point become staples within the franchise. I could say you could try it to experience it, as it also has options to boost progression if you choose.
So I was hesitant about playing this one because I had Origins back on the PS1 20+ years ago, and 2 felt like an absolute black box I bounced off of hard. But trying it as an adult with a fully developed brain, IMO this might be the best of the NES FF games? It's certainly the first that "feels" like Final Fantasy, insane Elder Scrolls style leveling system aside. IMO there's no shame in using a guide, esp early on and to map your build some, but I wouldn't balk just because this is the "weird" FF game. It absolutely is but still.
This one was more fleshed out than the first game, with named characters proper dialogues but it still feels like a step-back from the level slots and instead just giving us a handful of spells that level up individually and not being able to keeping track of a character's level by levelling up a style, feels like the test run for FFXIV haha.
Very ambitious for its time but I can definitely see the flaws others say it has. I liked what it was trying to do more than how it did it. It's interesting to see how this game led to the SaGa series though.
Still a great game, and still true turn based combat.
Some great nostalgia, loved the added function like the quicksave and running (was it available back in the days?) Whatever, it took me about 24 hours to complete with all achievement using Jedo, Iylat and ponkberry steam guide (shameless advertisement as they did a great job!) Wishlist it, wait for a deal and have fun!
