This should still be in early access, big dawg. It's 90% of the way there, but that 10% is not coming and it's a pretty crucial 10%. Stuff that's missing: Bugfixes (my first issue was ten minutes in when I allocated fame from my living room and it just disappeared... for ten nights before randomly applying itself) Tooltips (they're there on some stuff, but missing from a lot of other stuff, and this is a game that kinda requires you to know how stuff works) UI (buttons you press inside a window during your administration phase are also pressed outside that window. Also how do you merge orbs? Also nothing ever works more than like 60% intuitively or explains why it's doing this. I think your first two skills are unremovable from your build, but the game doesn't tell you this and also what? Why?) Variety (portraits look nice and I seriously appreciate the time taken to hand draw everything, but also you can swap the gender on your first four lords but not your second four, and for one of them that looks fine but for the others it feels strongly like cut content) Bugs again (the music turned off about thirty minutes into my run and would not turn back on, it also loops and switches tracks badly, also SFX are tuned like 500% above where they need to be on default settings good god) The core game is a dungeon keeper esque darkest dungeon esque thing where you're expected to grind multiple loops in order to have enough points invested in a character so that they can handle mid and late game bosses. I genuinely don't think you can win this one on your first run, which I don't mind, but might put some people off. It has a lot of heart, and if it was still in early access or there was any plan to continue development, I'd be cutting it more slack. There's good bones here, it's just that some of the meat is hanging off of them and the whole thing is kinda shambling around in a tormented halflife. Edit: In case it adds more credence to any of what I've said here, it's 2026. The valentine's event from 2025 (which unbalanced the game by starting you with 30 in one of your prestige tracks) is still running. And also because this thing is buggy the event does not actually provide the 30 in your prestige track that it promises. It's just there and provides nothing.
having beaten the game for the first time, I do not really know what to think about it. at first, it looked like a great game, but the more I play the less I feel like there really is. it could be because I picked the "Dark" faction which seems to be playing very differently from other factions (not having proper AP or skill assignments but rather drawing random skills and keeping 2 types of AP from every turn amongst other things) but in general, it is just...it is basically an early access title in the middle or the early stages of development. missing art, missing tutorialization/tutorials for things that are not applicable appearing (said dark faction not getting a proper explanation as an example), various issues with UI/control like being practically unable to assign decorations (which give bonuses) to rooms except for the "assign all" button, visual glitches during enemy attacks, numerous rooms being imensly powerful while other rooms are very weak, the distribution of prestige resources between the 4 factions without a reset button as well as no family bonuses for other families meaning you are encouraged to lock into only one specific style of play and to never change it up because your very limited prestige resource has been spent to unlock "dark" faction mechanics so your necromancer and blood faction have no upgrades at all, and playing the family of seducers all the other families (of which half need to be unlocked for prestige resources) do not have any kind of benefit (rogue legacy 2 did this well as an example by making every class accrue their own XP, which at every level treshold gives you either some % stats like intelligence or HP or gives you more carrying capacity, all of which applies no matter what character you pick - enocuraging you to play every class) with nothing to really do to truly define your run besides picking the room types and decor types, when you even the option to pick - usually you get random drops. merchants arrive at unknown times so you rarely know when you will even be able to spend your money, rooms need to be put in locations of appropriate size so a lot of of rooms just do not get a place to be put anywhere in the first place, and you only really care about their main and leveled up bonuses - meaning you probably will pick any room that gives prestige/terror/seduction per night and almost everything else is just useless for the most part. it...it really just feels like someone was on the path of making something great or at least OK, but from what I can tell nothing more will come. I for some reason have the "valentine event" visible on my main menu, telling me everone starts wtih like 30 or 40 extra seduction - even before I knew what it was (just like terror and prestige, (not to be confused with prestige resources), it is something that fills up a bar which gets you specific bonuses at specific tresholds), and it does not even seem to apply despite being visible on the screen. rerolling skills seems to not cost anything? if so, why would I not just reroll forever? I think I am rambling at this point. just...be aware that when you stop playing this game, you will be wishing for more; not because the game is over and you still crave it, but because it offers you a promise it cannot deliver on and now you just want something that will
a lot of love for this game. my main problem with it is how it handles big numbers. I figured I'd knock out the "reach night 250 in endless" achievement. it took a long time, but I did reach night 190 or so, when all my damage disappeared. I was running a necromancer using gather decay to give my minions ridiculous stats, and after one overflowed, it couldn't do damage. this happened a couple of times, but I killed them with sacrifice to restart another stack of stats. the last time I did it, I also stopped gaining ap each round, meaning I could never cast another spell that wasn't free. I had to give up, since losing wasn't possible with my 1000+ life steal and restarting the game did nothing
This was an enjoyable indie with enough new ideas to keep playing nearly 80 hours and still more to see.
I like this game.
This is a very polished and fun game. Plays a bit like a board game. I got it a full price a while back and Its been worth the money. It has occupied me for many evenings and pushed bedtime to the early hours more than once with its one more turn itch. It has alot of replayability with additional unlockable vampire castles, clans, and perm. boost / enhancements to various vampire powers/ disciplines at the end of each game.
