I love gold
Legend of Keepers (2021) Steam gave this game away for free. I love the idea of the game, you control monsters that fight to defend the dungeon and the gold within. You choose one of three boss monsters that guard the treasure chest at the end of the dungeon. Normally in this type of game you would control the guys attacking the dungeon, not the monsters defending it. As it stands, this game just has way too many things I personally dislike. The game is way too random, you have to buy units from the store in story mode, if you are looking for a certain unit you have to check the shop each time until you can find it. You can re-roll the store, but that costs gold. You make way too little gold to actually have fun with your units and traps. You can buy and upgrade traps to place in certain areas that help out, but they don't really do all that much. Just little chip damage to help out. Each dungeon tile is random to an extend, you have rooms where you can place monsters, traps and cast boss spells from. Later the heroes get a room where they get a benefit like healing or removing negative buffs, great idea really and it does feel bad if they get there, Your units have weaknesses and resistances, some going into the negative. The enemy's attacks deal elemental type damage, so they can often hammer your units if you place them in the wrong place. You choose to place a unit in the front, the middle and the back. Certain skills only hit the front for example. and you can see what the enemy can do - so you can plan to soak an attack, only for them to use another skill instead. Part of the randomness - you can plan out as much as you want, your units takes boat loads of damage and tend to die in one or two hits unless their resistances against the attack is really high. You have two ways of dealing with enemies - you can kill them and then you gain blood as a currency, or you can shatter their morale, causing them to flee from the dungeon and you get tears as a currency. I love this, you can choose what you want to attack - but the problem is, enemies with high morale deal max damage and the lower their morale goes, the less damage they deal - so why not just always attack morale if you can? They deal less damage, thus your guys survive longer. Thinking back - the first boss I played as was the Slaveholder and he had a powerful spell to lower morale. I build into that idea because it seemed unique and yeah the game went really smoothly. I then played the second boss, the Enchantress and oh boy that was a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Slaveholder was level 9 when I was done, Enchantress was around level 14 - so yeah, morale is the real way to go. You can collect relics that give out boosts to your monsters, some of them are really good like the resistance one and some are really bad like the one that lower your last monster's hp in half - but he can use his attack twice. Too bad he probably won't survive until then. Like I said, I love the idea. I would have liked it to be less random and certain good monster dependent, but it is what it is. I see the game does have some dlcs for other boss monsters but from what I see people say online they don't really play all that different from the base game bosses. Worth a few hours if you got nothing better to do, and this really should not be played in a day long session as it's a bit repetitive with too many random factors. 7/10
I'm not sure how this game fits into a person's life. It's a little to detailed and needs a little too much focus to be a good second screen or burn out game, but it's not engaging enough and doesn't have enough depth of strategy to really hold my full attention. It sets up a comedic tone of the evil boss being essentially a middle manager and all these monsters just working an 8-5 but it doesn't commit to the bit, all the jokes are lightly scattered around the periphery and 90% of the experience feels like a straight evil empire type setting. There's not a lot going for it story-wise, just kind of an empty space where a story feels like it should be. The art's...adequate. Nothing super terrible about the game, I just found it kinda bland.
A somewhat unique and innovative take on the turn based combat dungeon crawler genre, in which it flips the roles so that you play villain instead of hero and you need to protect the dungeon against waves of heroes. I'm not a huge fan of the genre but I enjoyed the game and I think fans of the genre would too. Downside is that there's not much variety in the combat, you can predict almost all the moves you will make for a defense, which feels repetitive after a while. Also the morale system has potential but as it currently is, I found it be almost completely useless compared to regular HP damage.
it's a cool game with its own characters and a great leveling system, but it didn't inspire me much
