Opening/ Information
Reading a review is not enough? Want to see some footage? Check the link and watch some game footage for yourself and decide if this game is worth your time: https://youtu.be/7RvvFCkokMs Feudalia is a deck building strategy game, using a cartoon art style and a unique town building idea. This is the first game created by Junjo Games who entered with this game the world of Steam.
Gameplay / Story
Time to duel with your Kingdom my Prince! Another Deck building game for me but this time its different You start as a Prince, not the fresh Prince, but you can't get everything. You start with a town and have a deck you need to work with and gain lets call it prestige points, once you got enough you win the match. By Time things come to make your life as miserable as possible. And this is the main issue and benefit in this game. You are not entitled to change the deck out of the scenario, something i myself would love to change. You instead evolve and buy cards during the game. That's great but due to turn restriction(you lose after a set turns) and the tax collector (you have to pay him half of everything you got)it gets pretty stressful when you pick the Tax collector two times in a row. You also get beggars who do nothing then just fill your deck like a stone until you buy a house, when there is a house you can build else you have just useless cards in your deck. Oh wait, did I tell that you have 10 lifes in this game and need to have Bandits on your hands who can only provide money and defend you? Well great just more cards stopping your economy. The economy is really simple, you have 3 spaces producing either wood grain and well stone or turf aka bricks and gold you get by discarding cards. But since you do not have it in your hand when to defend when to get the Tax collector you are living in an RNG home and RNG hates me in this game. Yes you can see me having 5 Bandits in my deck but never getting them while getting attacked. You can also not store gold since you lose half of it after the round, increasing the already hard difficulty. The game itself is really rigid, and it feels the same even with different missions. To bad since there could be a lot of fun in the game.
Pro
+ a lot of different Cards + a lot of missions + Scenarios have different goals + you can build your own Deck during the game + the short story between is nice
Contra
- RNG based - The Scenario can get really unfair - the time limit is hard to beat - diminishing resources each round make mistakes so impactful you can right restart your session
Conclusion/ Who will enjoy the game?
Feudalia offers a good game with a really great effort for Deckbuilding games. The scenario is unique, but there is plenty of stuff to work on. The Difficulty spikes way too high and to fast and the card game itself is repetitive without anything new after mission 5. So who will enjoy this game? Do you like Deck building games? You think games like Hadean Tactics or Hell are way too easy to win? Here you got your game!
Information / Review English
Feudalia is a deck building and resource management game developed by Junjo. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2475902026
Gameplay / Story
Your task in this game is to take on the role of the feudal lord. You are responsible for the new areas and your area of responsibility is varied. You control a total of three kingdoms, each with a small village in the middle. You have vassals at your disposal who do work for you, such as collecting resources, collecting money. You need all of this to expand your empire, increase the population or hire grandmasters. But that's all, you are trying to have the best kingdom and you have to help the king to finish building a cathedral. But that's not the only problem that tax collectors are on your neck and want to enrich you with your money. The neighboring villages are also haunted by attacks and need help from you whatever worries you. Your diplomacy skills are required and a fine hand for this with the enemies. Your workers will develop further, acquire new skills, which will prove to be helpful. Starting from a simple deck of cards, you will need to level up the characters while setting the various objectives that will appear on each screen.
Pro
+ interesting story in the Middle Ages + Card game feature well integrated + good scope so far + randomly created missions where the objectives also change + Price / performance ratio is right + many setting options + Tutorial
Contra
- Interface could be clearer
Conclusion
Feudalia offers you a combination of Strategy and Card game, which has been wonderfully integrated. I enjoyed the game. Clear buy recommendation in this genre. PS: First of all, many thanks to the developer who made this key available to us for the group.
Information / Review Deutsch
Klare Kaufempfehlung in diesem Genre. Counter to the board game this version only has single player with a series of pre-set "campaign" scenarios and 4 essentially beat your own score scenarios with some variety/replayability. If you are a board gamer, you will feel right at home with mechanics. But if not, the developers did a fine job at explaining the rules an new cards/mechanics become available at a steady pace, although at a bit slower than I would like to. The goal of the game is to reach certain number of points by playing cards and smart resource management. I say smart, because when the Tax Collector card is drawn from your deck he will take half of your resources. When to generate them and where to place is something that you need to very careful with. The gameplay revolves around using your Serfs to generate resources from fields and generate resources you don't have access to though trading with cards like merchant or similar cards. You use these resources to get points or buy more cards. Unlike most deckbuilders having a small deck means the Tax Collector will steal your resources more often so it's not a bad idea to make your deck fatter. Video game adaptions of board games usually struggle with the UI but this game does it very well. Unto positives and negatives.
The positive
+ Well designed tutorials. Board games mechanics can feel very different from the typical video game mechanics, so I'm glad that this game acknowledges that and takes time to teach the rules that should be easy to learn even for a non-board gamer. + Quick gameplay. Each mission attempt takes 15-30 mins. + Streamlined gameplay and UI. It's very easy to understand what actions CAN be done and where can they be done, although the player still needs to decide when it SHOULD be done.
The neutral
* Art. Personally not a fan of it, and some images feel "stretched" to fit the new resolution, but it's not a huge issue. * Better clarity for score requirements. You can earn silver and gold stars based on performance, but requirements for those were not clear.
The negative
- Replayability. Once you finish the main campaign, which can be done in 10-15h or less there is not much else to do. The beat your own score scenarios aren't quite the replacement for me.
Conclusion:
A relatively small and compact board game based video game that offers enough of decision making each turn to be fun without being overbearing. Would have enjoyed more scenarios and a bit more replayability, but it's a fine game to play in small, relatively short sessions. Recommended.
Not a bad game for 2-3 evenings, but pretty bugged in some missions (some cards don't work correctly).
I'm board game enthusiast. The game really has a "board game feel" to it. Never played the physical version, But it looks similar from videos I watched. In fact never heard of the game before it popped up in my suggestions. Love the deck building and resource management aspect. Not much reviews so far for the game. Only still in the "tutorial" section (8 first missions). Like it very much so far...
good and simple to play.
