Hello Friends, Today I will review the game Etrian Odyssey 1 HD. There are differences between the "original" version of the game and this version of the game. There are Quality of Life improvements, different enemy drops, and even some different enemy names. For clarification sake, if your a first time player to this series, there are technically three versions of this game. There is a original version of the game released on Nintendo 2ds, then there is this version HD Version, and another version called untold tales. Each version improves things in the game, but also adds confusion. Many of the guides on the internet are for one version of the game, while causing mis match information for this version of the game. For example, the drops for certain item unlocks are not the same as the original game. When I personally looked for info about this, i found out the guides on original do not work for this game. So you either have to find a guide specifically about this version of the game, or get stuck farming monsters for drops that never drop like i did for 6 hours. I had to end up farming random monsters to find certain drops. BE aware of this issue when playing the game. The original game's drops do not correlate to drops found in this version of the game. I actually discuss this lack of information on a post on the forum here, and the confusion that new players have to deal with to get the correct information on drops. https://steamcommunity.com/app/1868180/discussions/0/568162597763818208/ And when i say i personally spend 6 hours hunting a certain item that never dropped for me in the game thanks to a supposed drop guide for this version of the game provided by another poster on steam, it did not match the actual drops of this version of the game. Be aware of this issue, and do not make the same mistake i made. And i did spend 6 hours searching for gem scales. The item in most guides did not drop from the monster that is mentioned in many guides online. Use my info in the post i put and linked in this review if you plan on getting late game equipment unlocks. For the game itself, it is a grid based rpg. Players can select different job classes, and can even pick their characters portraits. There is a limited amount of portraits to pick for each character, so be aware of this. This is not really a customization thing, but more like selecting pre made classes and picking their looks. The game has several areas known as stratum's. Each stratum can contain up to 6 floors or more. The deeper the stratum, the more floors are added to stratum's. Each stratum's have different environments that can change the layout of the dungeon. For example, one stratum contains quick sand, another poisonous plants that damage players characters. As with many rpg's, there are plenty of side quests that can be taken in the town. The town is basically a hub town where all runs into the dungeons start, but if players make it to a certain thing in the dungeon, they can shortcut to that stratum. As with floors, the side quests become more difficult the deeper players make it into the dungeons. Also, players can unlock weapons and items in the store. They will need to collect a amount of drops from certain monsters and sell them to unlock better weapons and items. Also, healing items can be locked doing this, but players will need to go to the apothecary to buy them. Just like weapons and items, players will need to find the drops from monsters to unlock better healing items. One thing new players should also be aware of are conditional drops. These are special drops only dropped by players doing a certain spell or attack on a monster. For example, one monsters only drops a certain item if players use a ice spell on that monsters. Again, be aware of the mis match information of the guides for the three versions. This can cause confusion for new players. Anyways, here is my pros and cons list: PROS: - A grid based game where players can draw their own map right inside the game. They can draw it any way they want to provide a full map to themselves. - Selectable classes and skills. Some skills require certain skill levels to unlock. - The conditional enemy drops require players to experiment with different builds and skills. Not all conditional drops of monsters will drop with static builds. So players should make sure all classes they unlock have characters that are made in the guild building. - Cute anime type graphics and graphics upgrades from the original version of the game. CONS: - Due to the information mis match, or therefore lack of information on this version of the game, players may experience mis information and drops and unlocks for trying to unlock weapons and items in the game. Please refer to my 6 hour example above. I put this here to prevent other players to not make the same mistake i did. - At a certain point, the difficulty threshold gets very difficult unless specific builds and classes are made to combat high level monsters. Again, guides are confusing due to different versions of this game. - Avoid resetting your characters. It is called RETIRING. This can be a waste of time to do in the game. Resting is ok once you max out your characters levels. This will let players re-spec their skill points. The penalty for resting is loss of 5 levels though, so be aware of this. Do I recommend this game? If a person likes old school rpgs and grid based dungeon games, this could be up their alley. If they expect a hand holding rpg, this is not that type of game. It is a harder rpg that veterans may enjoy, but new rpg players may find it is quite hard. The mis match of information due to version differences can cause confusion to new players. The problem is many players think this version of the game and the original version are the same, but they are not. The drops are different, as i have learned this lesson the HARD way. Do not waste 6 hours playing the game hunting for a drop that never drops from a monster like i did. Learn from my mistake if you play this game.
TRADUÇÃO DO JOGO

Suporte a Steam: Conquistas, Cartas + Steam Points + Insignias, Cloud Save, Suporte a Steam Deck
A história é totalmente rasa e superficial,
Port Etrian Odyssey Nexus next. We need Project ReFantasy Hulkenberg
I get what this game is trying to do, and I think I would have liked it if I played it as a kid, but this game is not for me. 12 hours into the game and I'm 9 floors in and there is just not a lot of story or gameplay to be honest. 90% of the battles, I just hit A. Most runs in the dungeon consists of me traveling through areas I've seen several times, fighting 5-10 random encounters to get to a new part of a map and exploring until I run out of healer TP. Occasionally, I will fight a mini boss and that could be interesting. Even then, each of my characters have like 1 or 2 different abilities that are meaningful. I then go back to town and sell my loot and hope something new unlocks to buy, that will slightly improve my stats. That's it. I think there are people who will find filling out the maps satisfying, but unless you are super into cartography, I would not recommend.
Where's my DS Stylus?
Etrian Odyssey is a classic dungeon crawler. Descend into the forest and map your surrounding areas while fighting monsters with a self-created party of up to 5 characters with different classes. There is a rudimentary story, side quests and many unlockable items and equipments by selling monster drops. Etrian Odyssey HD is a remake of the first Etrian Odyssey game, which released on the DS all the way back in 2007. It plays very well on the Steam Deck, which is probably the closest you can get to the original feeling, and has a few additional features like a changeable difficulty and automapping. Speaklng of the latter, I would highly recommend turning it on. The original game had you map the dungeon surroundings yourself. It does sound fun, and I did it for the first 5 floors before giving up, because it's so much harder and annoying on a Steam Deck (or even mouse and keyboard) than it would've been on the DS where you can just use the stylus on the bottom screen as you go. In this version, you can't do that and have to open up a separate overlay every few steps to map, which gets very tiring. Automapping helps and there are even several degrees of severity - even on the strongest setting, you still have to put in doors, treasure chests and stairs yourself which I think is fair. I am sure it was much more fun on the DS with a bottom screen though. I get that, way back in the day, you didn't even have an in-game way to map a dungeon and had to use pen and paper, but I very much appreciated having the option here especially since this version loses the touch screen :-) Aside from that, there isn't much to say. If you ever played grid-based dungeon crawlers, this has all the bells and whistles, but not much more. Annoying random encounters, tons of dead ends, useless treasure chests and, above all, a certain charm that is hard to ignore and an addictive "just one more descent" feeling. It's a good game to kill time and there is even a bunch of postgame stuff which I didn't engage with. If you like accessible old school dungeon crawlers, you can't go very wrong with EO HD.
