Don’t let the low-budget visuals fool you. It might look like one of the million other similar indies out there, yet Etaine: Magic Survivor is a piece of software crafted with care, and not a low-effort cash grab that uses sexy anime imagery to make some easy money. Slowly turning your heroine into a walking Armageddon that fills the screen with all sorts of things that inflict pain and watching enemies go down by the hundreds is cool, and the game’s excellent pick-up-and-play design makes it perfect for a quick break…that can easily turn into an hour. Sadly, there are plenty of balance issues, making some of the tougher challenges on offer (and they are aplenty) quite annoying. 建议作者自己去玩一下,这是游戏?彷佛在逗我
It's so close to being a phenomenal game, but lacks QOL features in a ton of different ways. Playing on a controller is a poor experience that I can't recommend. Playing on m+kb isn't my preference for the genre, but it's made this game a lot easier to do what I want it to. The interactions between talents, artifacts, and spells is interesting, and the mana pool economy is something fairly unique compared to other survivor-likes. There's a great deal of progression mechanics, and the game starts off easy enough that I've been getting 10+ post game rewards after every run so far. I'm tentatively recommending, though like the other reviews mention, this game would very clearly benefit from extra time smoothing out the rough edges. It's perfectly good at $3.50 right now.
游戏难度太高了,难度4好几个英雄试了好多遍都过不去
Gameplay is nice with some evolutions being a little underwhelming, but there's a lot of them so I probably just need to learn better synergies. This game changes up some of the bullet heaven mix (like mana gems instead of xp gems) and less of a focus on automatic aiming (option does exist). Content is more towards the SFW end for what a lot of you might like, but I think it's cute. Dev has some law limitations, just see the Discussion posts for some clarification (A post or two exist with a dev direct response.). It'd be nice to see more content from this developer in the future. Dev paid for the artwork to be done, so if you like what you see, buying the game might help them pay for more ;D
Etaine: Magic Survivor / 伊泰恩:魔法幸存者, developed and published by TEMagicGames, is a survival roguelite that builds on the increasingly popular formula of arena-based combat and incremental power growth, while adding its own layer of mechanical involvement through more active spell usage and resource management. The game places players in control of a magic user thrown into hostile environments filled with relentless waves of enemies, where survival depends on both quick decision-making and long-term build planning. It is a familiar setup, but one that proves engaging thanks to its constant sense of progression and the sheer satisfaction of gradually turning a fragile character into a destructive force. The core gameplay loop revolves around movement, combat, and continuous upgrades. Players navigate open arenas while enemies swarm from all directions, collecting experience and resources that allow them to level up and enhance their abilities. Unlike some titles in the genre that rely heavily on automated attacks, Etaine leans more into manual control, giving players greater influence over how and when abilities are used. This adds a layer of engagement that requires attention and timing, especially when managing multiple spells or reacting to sudden bursts of enemy pressure. Each level-up presents a choice between different upgrades, encouraging players to think about how their decisions will shape the overall build. One of the game’s most notable strengths lies in its variety of spells, items, and upgrades. There is a strong emphasis on experimentation, with numerous combinations that can lead to vastly different playstyles. Some builds focus on overwhelming damage output, filling the screen with projectiles, while others prioritize survival through defensive mechanics or resource efficiency. The inclusion of a mana system further deepens the gameplay, as players must balance their ability usage with available resources, preventing the experience from becoming entirely passive. This system encourages a more thoughtful approach, especially in longer runs where resource management becomes increasingly important. Replayability is supported by multiple modes and escalating difficulty levels. As players progress, they unlock new challenges that push them to refine their strategies and adapt to tougher conditions. These higher difficulty tiers introduce more aggressive enemy behavior and require a deeper understanding of the game’s systems. However, this is also where balance issues begin to surface. Certain builds and upgrade paths tend to be significantly more effective than others, which can limit experimentation once optimal strategies are discovered. While the variety is there, not all options feel equally viable, which can reduce the sense of freedom over time. Visually, the game presents a mix of strengths and inconsistencies. Character designs, particularly the player-controlled mages, are detailed and stylized, standing out clearly against the battlefield. However, enemy designs and environments are more simplistic, creating a contrast that can make the overall presentation feel uneven. During intense moments, the screen fills with effects and projectiles, creating a chaotic but visually engaging spectacle. While this can be exciting, it can also become overwhelming, making it harder to track important elements during late-game scenarios. The pacing is initially one of the game’s strongest aspects. Early runs are fast and rewarding, with frequent upgrades and a clear sense of progression that keeps players engaged. The cycle of starting a run, building power, and pushing further into the challenge creates a compelling loop that encourages repeated play. Over time, however, the repetition becomes more noticeable. While different builds offer some variation, the underlying structure remains largely unchanged, and extended sessions can begin to feel predictable once players become familiar with the mechanics. Narratively, the game takes a minimal approach. There is little emphasis on story or character development, with the focus placed almost entirely on gameplay systems and replayability. This design choice aligns with the genre, but it also means that players looking for a deeper narrative experience may find the game lacking in that area. The world exists primarily as a backdrop for the action rather than a fully realized setting. Overall, Etaine: Magic Survivor is a solid entry in the survival roguelite genre that offers an engaging mix of active combat and build experimentation. It succeeds in creating a satisfying progression loop and provides enough variety to keep players interested across multiple runs. However, its balance issues, repetitive structure, and uneven presentation prevent it from reaching a higher level of refinement. It is an enjoyable experience for fans of the genre, particularly those who appreciate a more hands-on approach to combat, but it stops short of standing out as a top-tier example. Rating: 7/10
