Don't be fooled by the Dread Wolf (negative reviewers) whom are destined to only see their own mistakes and decide to take the whole world down with them (review score) for this is a good game. Though I understand the critics relentless yearning for the yesteryears of western RPGs. The Vailguard is a simple game (no guides needed), even compared to The Inquisition, easy to pick up and immerse yourself in the world to Thedas, but does lack a bit in the departments that would make me spend hours on end threading up and down the streets of Kirkwall. Completing the game and every side quest, in 66 hours feels a bit short and I will attribute that to the rather shallow companion/faction storylines. It was far too easy to please everyone at all times, as a people pleaser I like that, but at the same time it didn't give me enough of a emotional challenge. Don't get me started on the romancing, I went hardcore in on romancing one character and all they achieved through the game was a simple kiss. Quite different to almost being able to jump into the hay on demand in previous installments. Compared to Origins, II and to some degree The Inquisition, there's a distinct lack of mystery to the world of Thedas. We seem to get answers to every fundamental and existential question there ever could be, which is quite cool to know for the sake of Lore, but it also defeats the purpose of builing upon it further, since it all could be contributed to XYZ that gets revealed in this game. There's lots more I could say both positive and negative, but I believe it is worth discovering on your own. Anyways, I liked the game, wish I could've spoken to more NPCs.
niesamowita fabuła i wiele powiązań z wcześniejszymi częściami całkiem dobra grafika
Overall the game is fantastic. A VERY solid combat system that makes use of every button of the controller with well designed intent. Nothing ever feels out of place, and although you have to periodically keep an eye on your cooldowns, it's never more than a fraction of a second. Nor is the GUI invasive into what you need to be paying attention to while you're fighting. It has a solid arcadey hack and slash feel to it. Nothing too deep, but developed enough to be engaging throughout the battles. The enemy health is also well balanced for the most part. (Granted how much damage you do is entirely in the hands of how the player wants to play, which is another merit) The story is pretty solid as well. A lot of engaging side story that although aren't as syndicating in complexity, as something like Yakuza they're still entertaining enough to want to get to know more of the interactions between the characters. This is definitely a game worthy of the name BioWare (♥♥♥♥ EA though) I literally started another campaign immediately after I cleared it for the first time. S-tier product.
This game didnt disappoint. I tried to go in as objective as possible, seeing as Mass Effect/Dragon Age fans are severely unfair in their critiques. It has everything that Inquisition had and more. It does have more linear design, and more hand-holding, but it also has a good offshoot story.
Veilguard has a great story, some pretty good characters, and easily the best combat and visuals in the series. It's Mass Effect in the Dragon Age universe. And yes, that's a bit more action-focused than the first two entries in the series, but I never really felt like those games nailed their more tactical combat anyway so I'm VERY pleased that they overhauled it and just focused on excitement. I can legitimately understand someone being upset that the combat style was changed, even if I was very happy with the change. But I'm pretty sure that most of the negative reviews for this game are because there's a nonbinary squadmate and there's like ten total minutes of story about that that does indeed feel kind of hamfisted. It is my sincere opinion that most of the people writing negative reviews of this game need therapy, friends, or both.
Dragon Age"
Recommended: Yes (But ONLY on a Deep Sale) "A fun D&D 5.5e-style campaign, but it loses the dark, gritty edge of the series. Wait for a sale." If you are going into Veilguard expecting the dark, gritty, blood-spattered fantasy of the older Dragon Age titles, you are going to be disappointed. The series has definitely lost its darker edge, replacing it with a much brighter, cooperative, and collaborative high-fantasy feel. It feels like playing a D&D 5.5e campaign where the Dungeon Master is great at action mechanics, but isn't really good at running dark, gritty fantasy. That shift makes the narrative tone feel a bit dull compared to the series' roots. However, if you take it for what it is, I am genuinely having fun playing it—there is just enough here to justify a single, thorough playthrough, provided you don't pay full price. What Works Solid RPG Mechanics: Character creation is nice, and leveling up gives you plenty of great ways to tailor your character with different skills and builds. Peak Dragon Fights: The dragon fights are easily my favorite battles in the game. They are visually cinematic and satisfying to conquer (even if they all share the exact same underlying mechanics). Great Voice Acting & Cast Diversity: The voice actors did a fantastic job, and the NPC companions feel uniquely tailored to the strengths of their actors. Neve and Davrin, in particular, are fantastic highlights among the crew. Meaty Playtime: There are plenty of quests and tons of gaming hours packed into a single run, which is great if you just want to do one thorough playthrough without replaying. What Misses the Mark Fizzling Dialogue & Writing Tropes: The writing is split right down the middle. There is some good lore and banter, but quite a bit of the dialogue just misses and fizzles out like a poorly planned blood magic spell. It leans heavily into cringe moments and writing tropes I'm tired of navigating. Frustrating Companions: While some companions shine, others miss the mark entirely. My least favorite was Taash; overall, the character's personality just kind of sucks, and their narrative relies on heavy-handed tropes (like the execution of their coming-out story) that feel tired and poorly paced. Overwhelming Social Alerts: The constant companion alerts for conversations can get exhausting, especially when you are trying to experience everything in one go. Lazy Difficulty Spikes: Instead of creating complex, tactical challenges, the game often makes combat "harder" by simply overloading the screen—dumping massive waves of extra enemies or a barrage of magic spells for you to constantly dodge. Final Verdict: Sorry to the creators, because Dragon Age is such a legendary series, but this isn't worth full price. It’s a fun, action-heavy high fantasy game, but it doesn't stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the older titles. Buy it for the combat mechanics, but wait for a deep sale.
