DOLMEN is worth $1.99.
I watch a Youtuber that made his life goal to find more Dolmen like clones. Shout out to Oboe Shoes Games. Sure the combat is not perfect, it's a little stiff, your character doesn't switch from the gun to the melee fast enough. You can cheese enemies with the unlimited gun ammo, if you prefer to do so, it's an option. My Youtuber even made a guide on how to play the game and by that I mean on how to cheese the game by making it a breeze, by using the gun class. So I went for the exact opposite class, the heavy claymore, slow but hits a ton. Fine, I did cheese enemies with the gun here and there, so what? I mostly used the claymore. The game is lots of fun, a short linear with interconnected paths, a little metroidvenia with the exploration. Optional lore that tells a story that can be understood and followed, I'm looking at you Dark Souls. Perhaps it's a great souls game for a beginner, or medium experienced souls enjoyer, not for the senior player.
My favorite part about this game is when you search for other sources of Dolmen cuz I'm really a fan of Dolmen Dolman is such a Dolman Dolman does not deserve game of the year but it does deserve game of the century cuz Dolman is very Dolman and we all know Dolmen is Dolmen Dolmen Dolmen my second favorite part of dolman is the lore and how the Corporation only cares about the Corporations problems and not the miners the very subtle anti-corporation theme in Dolman is one of its strongest features but basically to sum it all up Dolman really is Dolman and really if you think about it Dolman is the Dolmen we made along the way make sure you look for other sources of Dolman to quote the second best game of all time behind Dolman HAZE I'm a carnivore a real meat eater so basically in short but again and longer Dolman really is the best game of all time and dolman really is a carnivore a real meat eater and Dolmen Dolmen Dolmen Dolmen Dolmen Dolmen Dolmen Dolmen Dolmen Dolmen Dolmen Dolmen Dolmen Dolmen Dolmen Dolmen Dolmen Dolmen
For $1.99 I'd say it's worth it. If I bought it for $20, I wouldn't feel robbed, but I would wish I spent it on something else. Shoutout to OboesShoes for bringing this game to my attention, he has a very funny "walkthrough" I recommend. The end is definitely unfinished, and there's a fair amount of jank, but there is also solid design as well. It took me just under 18 hours to 100%. There was a need to grind parts, and you have to fight every boss 3 times to get their weapon. It was probably 2 hours of grinding in total, not bad at all really, plus the end game guns were fun to use. I did very little melee combat, the idea of using guns in a souls-like was too appealing. The gunplay was adequate, and for what little melee I did, it was fine.
Oh Dolmen... Even at a discounted price below 2€, you join an illustrious club alongside Lords of the Fallen 2014, Code Vein and Flintlock: the Siege of Dawn where I can't even justify recommending the game on sale.
Positives:
Dolme in my local dialect is used to refer to a "gigantic p*nis", Dolmen would mean "the gigantic p*nis", that's really funny at least. The world design is ok, I've played Code Vein, I've seen a lot worse and more uninspired world design. There's a story, it isn't super great, but I've come across a lot worse ones. The voice acting is shockingly competent for a game like this.
Negatives:
The combat is incredibly janky, even by cheap souls-like standards. The healing system is incredibly clumsy, while the basic idea is unique, the smart idea would have been to make healing work as normal and dedicate the energy system to gun ammunition only and making melee attacks regenerate it significantly faster. Having to take the extra step of using energy recharges just to heal does not feel good at all in practice, at best it's a novelty idea that sounds fun on paper but misses the mark. The movement and combat feels incredibly slow and uninspired. Honestly, I would like to say that some of the bosses have some good ideas going on, but the fact that the moment to moment gameplay is so incredibly janky and slow, it makes any good ideas they may have had just feel like an annoyance. They saw Dark Souls do the Bed of Chaos and said "that looks like a good boss, let's do that, but make sure to make it even less fun" and created the Queen Caniptei fight. The game is DESPERATE to force you into using the ranged weapon system they've added to apply status effects and deal with certain situations, which, if you like me just enjoy playing the melee combat is incredibly frustrating to have to deal with. The boss fights are absolutely F tier. There are two types of bosses, the ones where you can walk in a circle around them just to cook their AI, and the ones where their attacks have a significantly larger hitbox than the animation. Sometimes the two overlap. Imagine playing Dark Souls 2, but instead of the game just being a little janky and unintuitive, it's a ♥♥♥♥ ton janky and just kind of... ♥♥♥♥.
Conclusion:
Honestly, Dolmen is a strong contender for worst souls-like ever made, the only thing saving it from the bottom spot is that Code Vein, Lords of the Fallen 2014 and Flintlock: the Siege of Dawn actually had a budget behind them and still ended up being as ♥♥♥♥, Dolmen comes across as if it was made on a budget of 8$ and a pack of cigarettes by two guys in a basement and their cat. It can proudly pick up the award for being the fourth worst souls-like of all time and I would highly recommend you skip out on this one, even if it sometimes comes up for sale at 1.99€. When the strongest positive argument I can make for a game is "the name means gigantic p*nis in my local dialect and that's funny", you know it's bottom tier. So, I did finish all the achievements for the game and I can honestly say that the game gets worse the longer you play it. I couldn't find the slightest redeeming factor for this one, even if I tried my best.
i started dolmen on 20 may 2022 i pre ordered it for the rebel armor and i finally sit down to play it after many years of having it on the shelf "kinda forgot about it" but i am glad to say i finally 100% this game after a long time coming i am a dolman master . personal note - people where way too harsh on this game it was a real kickstarter with a indie team from brazil and people ragged on this game hard back in the day let that sink in it was not a "AAA" studio . i give you a little "for dolmen" greeting from "cpt . angel" https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3699826705 i have some pros and cons to share with this community on what i have learned in my quest to save the dolmen ______________________________________________ tips to new players for XP farming spots you can get to level 125 fast doing these farming spots making this game super easy and this allows you to use all armors in game early game farming spot - "access cave" if you use the first xp farm get all skills to level 10 and you can use all early game armors in game in mark 3 late game farming spot - "Old Labs BioSphere 01" if you use the second xp farm you get all skills to level 22 and you can use all late game armors in mark 3 ______________________________________________ Pro's "4" 1# - "juduvits aka "spin to win enemy" this enemy's i have seen players get merced by him but he is really easy once you know his weakness "block his attack hit him with a heavy strike that downs him and then hit him with a lil attack just 1 dont get greedy repeat this 2 to 3 times to take him down fast and easy he is a noob filter enemy. "good design" 2# - "access cave"the area version of " the noob filter" the sentinals hide in the roof if you look up you can spot them waiting for you if you dont get filtered once you learn there placements you can use them as a xp farm "super easy "good area design as it filtered a lot of noobs in 2022 from the streams i watched. "fire weapons work a treat on them" 3# - "Queen caniptei" the early game "the noob filter" she makes you want to quit but learn her dance moves and she is easy and a good early game xp farm with her club weapon you can earn if you repeat it 3 times "good boss design". 4# - tharvus keep "diet thanos" he is a good boss lots of nasty moves if you fight him honerable and kill him in melee its a achiv in itself he has some one hit kill moves to watch out for or you can literlly go plan B and use the "Niki fura" to wipe him out in 1 minute flat at level 125 with that weapon it mops the floor with him ______________________________________________ Con's "3" 1# - "the game is very short took me around 50 hours to 100% dolmen and that was level grinding to 125 to crush the last boss with all armors and weapons in game "short game" but i liked it. 2# - sometimes after playing for a long time and i want to log out to main menu i log out and it crashs with a desplay of "UE4" crash window pops up and this only happens on dolmen its not that big of a deal but had to add it. 3# - "the lore" its as deep as a puddle if your a lore enjoyer you will not find much. ______________________________________________ Cheese strats "4" 1# - "ancient soldier" - " cheese easy strat " this boss can be cheese strated just lead him around the staircase railings and shoot him with "fire smg" aka the "driller mg" it melts him fast and the gun ancient ranger starts a fire fight he cant finish with the driler smg you mop the floor with him in a ranged fight . 2# - "Ferronightmare" - "broken" this boss is broken there is a arena glitch where he gets stuck on terrain and is easy to kill to this day i am lost for words with this one a really cheesy strat killing him when he gets stuck but 95% of the time he gets stuck, its 2026 and he is not fixed . 3# - dr "labodja " SHE / IT " - "glitch cheese easy strat" to beat this bossman its so simple when she leaps at you at start of fight you can just target her and side step her attack stick to her ass and she is stuck in a walking animation allowing you to cheese her butt the entire fight making her the second easiest boss in game as "ferronightmare" holds that honor . 4# - "tharvus keep" - " cheese easy strat" grind the weapon "niki fura" from "general vesib" 3 times and use it to wipe "tharvus keep" out in 1 min flat at level 125 dodge his dangerous moves keep your distance and kite him into the gun between his attacks use a "flask" to get more power rince and repeat and the "niki fura" wipes his HP bar . ______________________________________________ "time line saved" - 100% dolmen https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3699826509 i take the good with the bad and i give this game a solid "7 / 10" dolmens and a queen caniptei sticker "ty devs i had a blast"
Should I look for other sources of DOLMEN? Came for the souls-like, stayed for the 3rd person shooter. I bought DOLMEN as a gimmick and I fell in love with DOLMEN. DOLMEN is love, DOLMEN is life. I cannot stop saying DOLMEN, my friends have banned me from saying DOLMEN. I need more DOLMEN in my life.
Its actually pretty good tbh.
