I have never seen a more filthy game. I understand that the selection is poor but, man,
having sex with undead
? Sick. And while I understand that the new world hype says "Love is love", there is (or should be) a limit. This game was a huge disappointment for me from a moral perspective. Still, if you can ignore, or get used to, the local customs, the game is playable, once or twice. I got bored at 2/3 of the second run, and quit.
Poor writing, poor combat conveniences, and other issues. The lack of combat conveniences makes many battles significantly slower to complete than they need to be, and the game's autoresolve is available only when you significantly outlevel the enemy encounter. Also expect inconsistent and poor writing. Case in point (very minor spoiler): You find a character hiding with his companions, and they say they can't leave because of several dangers, including a hungry creature they stand no chance against. You have the option to invite them to join your party. You would expect them to use your pocket portal to reach your base or cooperate with you to successfully escape. Instead, they accept your invitation and leave immediately, without any discussion. They are all devoured by the hungry creature they were hiding from originally.
Over 4,5 years late and now with Domination being out, I make my review, nevertheless. First of all, a reason why I neglected playing it for a long time, eventhough I bought it quite soon after its release, was my opinion and I stick to it, that they turned the lore I knew quite well upside down and added so many IMO detailed alterations also to the history of Nevendaar (SPOILER:
Oh, so Haarhus and Inoel fell in love, made a child and Inoel did not die in the end, suddenly?
), the Nevendaar I explored and spent so much time in with Disciples 2+addons and all three 3s. I read the story form the book, when D3 was out. Maybe I am wrong or at least partially. Still, I believe it really is the case, though. Also, due NPCs often talking often quite nonsense, acting so smart, by selling their opinions, personal perspectives and indoctrinations as the obviously right ones. Twisting common sense, kind of, just to fill, empolish and enrich dialogues, I imagine. Yeah, I may exaggerate. Nonetheless, for the mentioned above I did not enjoy the game for years. But now I understand. They had to of course, filling dialogues a lot with related topics NPCs and your companions you travel with could talk about that concern history, Nevendaar’s lore, the Gods… And they did their homework! I must acknowledge that. The developers really learned their stuff about the known lore from A-Z and over and over parts became involved or at least mentioned during dialogues, narrations and often pulled out to make us remember and connecting to the old games. I can’t remember much now, but there were for instance, even just small things like Sturmir Thunderhammers‘ bones. Now, just the positives. Since recently, I have to say, it is a well made game and I really like it. A big bravo for the battle system, which is so much fun and I assume in game development it’s a hard deal to achieve a good battle system (in contrary to Disciples 3 where it was soooo boring). Also the atmosphere, the gore and in the end even the humor (first I found it inappropriate, overdone and in general I dislike it when a comedy is made of a game or movie that should be just grim) for me are great. The playing feels dynamic. The progression goes well, the balance is spot on, the skills and their varieties are great, the same for spells, critical effects, etc. The developers are creative for sure. The choices of skills, crystals, strategies get really appreciable on high difficulties and make the difference. Back to the dialogues. I must also give a thumbs up to the rich screenwriting. It‘s complex, the vocabulary is high and cultivative. Quite intellectual sometimes. I prefer playing it with German localization. Great DE voice acting btw. I am quite amazed by the choice of words nowadays only intellectuals would use. Also, because in English the Ice-Dryads are mute. Maybe, „Winter is coming“ is already taken and „Freeze!“ simply shouted by police officers instead? However, in German at least, they say that and more. So yeah, all in all it is a really good game and I think it’s really something new, different, in a good way. Changing the type of game from typical turn-based strategy the previous titles are based on and creating this distinctive and unique setting for a game, was a good move. I disagree with Disciples fans, that we need just a Disciples II remaster and with WTF is this game here instead?! I say the guys from Frima made a really good job and I cheer for them (but I am not sure with purchasing Domination, sry).
it's an extraordinary game, i played disciples 2 and it was incredible i played disciples 3 and it still seemed extraordinary to me even though i didn't manage to buy them a friend brought me the game and i played it, it's a shame that now i can't play disciples 2 at all win 11 is no longer compatible with the game i bought them and they didn't work at all i had to send them back, disciples 3 runs on win 11 but has big graphic problems, disciples liberation is working perfectly with win 11
