I completed the full game with side missions. Positives: * Interesting and unusual story with dark and unique atmosphere. Setting, lore and worldbuilding in this game is pretty original and intriguing. * The idea of turning into a beast, gaining or reducing insanity to turn into that beast, the very choice to turn or go through the game human, it's all pretty fresh and unusual. Quite an interesting concept, to be honest. * Game has a lot of options for personalization such as equipment or weapons. Plenty of supplementary items for combat such as poisons or oils. You can put it on blades. Several types of grenades, bows, bullets, and many other things * Every companion has their own class, actions, strengths. And what's especially great is each character has their own personalized biography with a story. Love this kind of attention to detail in games. You can also exchange a few phrases with the characters and learn more about the events or their personal history. * Quite a large number of animations with killing enemies. There's even some dismemberment. * Combat is fun. There's melee and range fights. There are also a couple interesting skils that make fights even more fun and exciting. * Surprisingly, I only encountered 3 bugs in the entire game, one of which was sound related. I expected the worst, to be honest. Negatives: * As I noted there are large number of animations in the game, but not all of them are finished and polished. * Closer to the end, the game's levels get a little repetitive and monotonous. * I didn't like the boss fight in the swamp. The only level in the game that I really wanted to skip. * Honestly all the flaws and negatives of the game are due to its unpolished and lack of budget. Conclusion: I like this dark world and original game setting with an unusual story. The game has its own unique atfosphere. And that's really great, because lately there are too many generic banal fantasy games that don't provide any unique experience, as if they were all made in one company somewhere in California with the purpose of not offending anyone. This game lacks polish and funding. You can see that there wasn't enough budget for it to be finished to completion. But I still went through it not without enjoyment.
It's easy to grab Beast at full price, see that the UI is a little clunky here and there, be put off by the slightly off wording and voice acting, and refund it quickly...BUT....this is likely why it has so many early poor reviews. Underneath a poor first impression is a solid turn based strategy game with pretty decent graphics and cut-scenes and a story that is, likewise, decent. It honestly does not deserve the level of poor reception it has had and it is an absolute steal at its sale price. I'd give it 7.5/10 in its current state shooting at 8.5+ if it gets polished and finished now that the beleaguered dev team have shelved their plans to give up. DONT - your game is worth that extra bit of love and people will come to see that if you give them time. Many games have been slammed early and risen from the ashes to achieve cult status and more a couple of years down the line. (take EGOSOFTs X series, and almost every "craft and survive" game as prime examples) NB: Keep in mind that my scores are always in relation to a game's full price not its (as here) sometimes ridiculous sale price.
I know its not finished but thats a risk with EA games. The devs ran out of money, its an indie game not a AAA. Personally I like the game and hold out a hope that it will get finished, but considering the price its worth a punt. Yes it has bugs, not finished, but overall really enjoy playing it. In the end whats the worst that can happen you play 15 plus hours, so £1-£2 per hour, cant even buy a pint for that.
anyone tell me which song in the video? that Black metal song
Great game!
A very good yet extremely difficult turn-based tactics. The veteran hero returns to the Carpathian after escaping the Tartarian Empire slavery…an the story begins! Great game mechanics, great graphics, HARD GAME! This game get a positive review fro my end!
Ok so don't mind the hours played at the time of this review as i already completed the game month ago on gog which took me around 40h on normal difficulty but i did struggle a bit despite being used to tactical turn based so maybe some balancing is needed. So not sure where to start cause there is a lot to say about it but i'll try to keep it short. The story is good, the voice acting and the animation are well done, the graphics are pretty good and the art direction is brilliant perfectly suit the unique mood the game is trying to achieve a dark and gore atmosphere and everything feel right which is called coherent game design, also the game run pretty well at max setting. I didn't encounter any major bug (game breaking) during my run there is some minor bug/glitch but nothing that turned me away, the game is pretty much what you would expect from a tactical turn based game with a twist you can turn into beast mode and a sanity level, you have a camp where you can manage your party and equipment before setting out for a mission. the game have very little replayability but it did kept my attention and interest, and in my book if a game is good enough to keep your interest and enjoyment from start to finish i call that a win. So in the end sure the game is still in early access but the devs are still trying to achieve the vision they originally had for the game, i have bought game for a similar price that are much worse than that, you could indeed argue there is also better one but that is not the point, the point and the question you probably ask yourself is "is this game worth buying/playing" and the answer is yes if you're looking for dark and gritty tactical/turn based. The game need some polishing and bug fixing but the asking price considering the quality and the content is fair enough and the more people buying it the better, but at the end of the day it's your choice to decide if you are willing to play the game and support the devs.
My friend got me this game, knowing I wasn't a fan of Turn based games but I wanted to give it a shot, give it a go. I'm glad I did. After 6 and half hours it's still fun, it's challenging and I still get a kick out of the characters. It's a good game and I recommend it to anyone who wants a medieval turn based game. I managed to speak to a dev and they're still working on this game even after a few years. Just get the game and enjoy Igor.
It's a unique tactical RPG set in the grim realities of the late 16th century, drawing inspiration from Carpathian legends. Players take on the role of Anton, a war-scarred veteran whose fate intertwines with that of Prince Nicholas, offering a deep and multi-layered story full of twists and moral dilemmas. The turn-based combat system allows for diverse tactical approaches. Players can choose cautious teamwork or unleash the titular Beast, gaining access to powerful but risky attacks. Every decision has consequences, adding strategic depth to the gameplay.
