I really want to like this. Defender 3D -- It's okay, but it lacks the responsiveness of the original Defender. The hit box on the ship is huge, so small enemy ships cause you to die when just getting close and not making actual impact. Your default ship is huge, too - no longer a streamlined dart with a laser that crosses the screen. Defender made me feel like I was flying a responsive space fighter jet. This makes me feel like I'm flying an ice cream truck with a pea shooter. Enemies area cross between being homing missiles or super-simple to defeat. The mechanic with picking up the humans is annoying at best - it needs to happen faster but doesn't, bringing strategy to a grinding halt. Avoid asteroids (that should blow apart and have avoidable debris, but don't), clear most of the level, pick up men, finish clearing, next. It doesn't have a rewarding mechanic that makes you want to keep playing, and it lacks the great feel and speed that the original Defender had that made you want to keep playing. Further, I think this was abandoned by the developer months ago as there haven't been updates since mid-January. Overall, this sucker simply doesn't hold my interest the way the old Defender does on the Midway Game Bundle that came with my X-Arcade stick.
It sucks. Nothing like the Defender from the 80's. No options really the sound is just crap and controls are sluggish. They shouldn't have bothered.
Played Defender in the 80´s on my C64 hole days. Now over 30 years later (and over 30 years older) I bought this game and what should I say, got nostalgic feelings and a smile in my face. The developer is in close contact with the hopefully growing community. Sure, there is room for improvements in this game, but it´s on a very good way. It´s hard but fun to play. I like it and hope for more `goodies` in this game.
For those that grew up with the original this is a great way to get some nostalgia. With the recent updates the game is now a lot of fun and a lot less infuriating. Definitely recommend.
Very well made remake. I loved the game earlier. I spent so many hours with the C64. Problem is it is still difficult, but I like that.
nice one reminds me of the good ol days HA HA!
Fun game. But does not keep a high score.
controller support would be nice Xbox 360 or Xbox one etc.
