6/10 A short but good puzzle in which you have to build ladders to climb out. What is it: A puzzle game with an open world platformer presentation, but not really a platformer. It resembles the old Block-Man game more. You play as a frog that fell down a deep hole while digging in the sand at the beach, trying to get out. Fortunately, there are ladders you can climb up on. Unfortunately, you cannot reach them, but there are blocks you can pick up and pile on to make some extra steps. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3300724800 The game is short, but the levels are good, and a few surprise mechanics make them all unique. I would have liked more levels, but it is good as it is, a short and focused one-hour experience. It also has a story with a twist ending, and a special level with a completely different style. I liked the regular levels. I didn’t really like the special level, I don’t think the way it plays fits the game. I liked the story, short as it was. One thing bothered me: typewriter dialog that can’t be sped up or skipped. And while it “works”, the implementation is minimal in terms of QoL, there are no settings at all, you just play the game as it is. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3300724770 So, a short and satisfying game that's well done in terms of content, give it a try. How hard is it: Easy, with some moderate levels. How long is it: 18 screens, most with one or two challenges in them, should take about one hour. There are some optional puzzles you can skip along the way, but you have one path you have to follow in order. Level design: Good, the levels are unique and focused, with a small number of blocks to arrange. Quality: OK for such a short game, but with minimal QoL. Good pixel graphics, some nice music. Undo, progress saving, progress reset, keyboard and controller supported, but not configurable and with some questionable mappings. Absolutely no settings at all. No cloud saving, a few completion achievements. Feels fast and responsive. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3300724688 Worth the price: Yes. Most positive aspect for me: Unique levels. Most negative aspect for me: The last level doesn't fit that well. What would make it better: Some settings, full screen toggle (it only runs windowed), audio, keyboard config. A better last level, the glass cube is annoying, and floating makes it too easy. Cloud saving. The ability to speed up text and close dialog faster. I mean this as sincerely as possible: Matt Goode is going to be an incredible game developer. For a first project this game shows such a mature understanding of all aspects of game design. Most important of which is how to make something fun to a player. A simple game, but a very well made game. I am looking forward to EVERYTHING Matt ever makes in the future.
A short game that genuinely made me smile when I finished it! YHTCO strikes the perfect balance in puzzle difficulty progression, and its unexpected ending brightened my day at work. The game also features great tunes with attention to detail that becomes more apparent the longer you play, which is exactly my kind of style. Highly recommended!
I'm a frog and I'm digging a hole Diggy diggy hole Digging a hole
Platforming? ✅ Puzzles? ✅ A frog? ✅ Excellent ost? ✅ Cute little game, took me a little over an hour to finish. Very well done, very much worth the purchase. And seriously the music is so good.
Fun 2D puzzle platformer that uses simple mechanics and relies on the level design to add puzzle depth. Best part is each small puzzle isn't too difficult by itself to make the game frustrating. The story and the notes set up a nice twist for the ending. You have to climb out? You have to dig deeper! For achievement hunters: Find all notes and complete the game.
Roses are red Violets are blue Cute little frog Wrote a bunch of notes
A short puzzle game with simple mechanics. The story keeps you wondering. Very pretty art and amazing soundtrack. A solo dev's first game. I loved it! Keyboard controls are just fine even though steam told me to use a controller. Edit: GOTY 2024 no contest.
lasting around an hour the experience is very engaging and the consistency of the tone, design & music really come together to conjure up a little treat of a game. The puzzles felt very rewarding to crack some even allow for a little interpretation
