In short, Busway Islands - Puzzle is pretty much a reskin of the 2021 Rising Moon Games title Railway Islands - Puzzle, and that's no bad thing. Sadly Rising Moon Games has made some minor changes, that for me, has simply ruined the game. I would happily give Busway Islands a positive review if it were not for one glaring, massively annoying issue and a second much smaller one, holding it back from being an unreserved positive. In Railway Islands - Puzzle , you click with the LMB to select a tile and then you use your mouse scroll wheel to rotate the tile, then click the LMB again to place it back down. In Busway Islands - Puzzle, you click with the LMB if you want to pick it up and click it again to place it back down when you want to move it. If you want to rotate the tile, you just mouse over the tile and press "Q" to rotate left and "E" to rotate right. Doesn't sound too different, or difficult does it ? Well, yes, it is. The problem stems from the fact that the "R" key, when pressed, restarts the level... and the R key is right next to the E key, which rotates a tile right, that one small change from using the scroll wheel to using a key, placed right next to the level restart key, has, IMHO ruined a decent game. I cannot for the life of me see how this wasn't questioned in testing, I'm only on level 6 and I've lost count of the times that I've accidentally restarted a level so far, it's such a small detail, but it's infuriating. The controls for Railway Island - Puzzle, worked perfectly fine and honestly didn't need tampering with, and if like me you are coming to Busway Islands - Puzzle after having played Railway Islands - Puzzle , you are going to find the controls unintuitive, and you will keep picking tiles up to rotate them only to find you don't have to and accidentally restarting the level. If it ain't broke don't fix it. My second much smaller complaint is regarding the BGM, in Railways Islands - Puzzle , it was relaxing, in Busway Islands - Puzzle the tone/pitch of the bells in the music are very harsh on the ears, and it is not relaxing, after 5 levels it's simply intolerable. Thankfully you can turn it off, but then you'll have no chill... also I found when Alt/Tabbing to Windows while running the game killed all sound from the game and it was only restored by restarting the game. If Rising Moon Games change the rotate controls for Busway Islands - Puzzle, I'll happily change my review to a positive, till then I cannot recommend the game.
INSTALLING NOTHING
I'm not really sure if Busway Islands - Puzzle is an asset flip. Some elements of this game certainly make it seem like the developer put some effort into assembling some kind of original here. On the other hand, a lot of the game assets don't seem like they were created by the developer, but they haven't credited any asset creators for supplying assets, which might be a case of plagiarism. Most of the assets look like they were "borrowed" from either Kubikos or Suriyun, whose assets are often plagiarised and improperly used by unethical "developers", claiming the work of others as their own. There's no evidence in this case, so we need to give the benefit of the doubt... regardless, asset flip or not, the quality here is indistinguishable from many asset flip/cash grab scams, and that's a problem in itself. Busway Islands - Puzzle is yet another of several hundred minimalist pathing puzzle games that's somehow here on Steam instead of locked onto the app stores where this kind of shallow game belongs. All you do is rotate tiles on each small level to ensure all the vehicles have a clear path to their destination. This is basically a dumbed down version of the ancient Flash game, Pipe Dream, also known as the hacking minigame in BioShock. Yeah, they want money for this, I'm not kidding. Taking this shovelware seriously as if it was a genuine attempt to make a game, it doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. The game features low-polygon "retro" assets with cartoony, mobile app style shader effects, making this look like a barely functional mobile app from 15 years ago. This visual style is a method that lazy devs often use when they have a lack of interest/capabilty to create highly detailed, high poly models and instead use shader effects to disguise that shortcoming under the name of "art", or "We made it look bad on purpose", which really isn't something gamers should have to put up with. It's unclear why the developers weren't willing to arrange high quality, high polygon count contemporary assets and high resolution textures for the game. It's far below the state of the art visuals gamers expect as a result of their decisions. The controls can't be customised because the game has such a dumbed down, simplified interface that it's just iPhone screen tapping stuff. The fact that the interface is this dumbed down might be seen as a problem in itself, however... this is a fairly shallow experience if you're the kind of gamer that likes to play games with deep, rich control schemes and interaction. You'll get none of that here. This is indistinguishable from a mobile app, but they put this on Steam instead of the app stores by mistake. Was it rejected by Apple and Google (they do have more rigorous quality standards than Valve does for Steam, after all)?. Regardless, for all intents and purposes Busway Islands - Puzzle might as well be a mobile app, it has the same limitations and dumbed down qualities. It's impossible to recommend such a game to PC gamers. We don't spend all this money building gaming rigs so we can pretend they're iPhones. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 5 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 100,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected. So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam? Busway Islands - Puzzle is relatively cheap at $3 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, and the questionable ethical nature of the developer and/or their associates (as outlined above), this is impossible to recommend. This is also competing with over 11,000 free games available on Steam, many of them far better than this paid product.
Profile Features Limited! Valve have marked this game as "Profile Features Limited" at the time of this review. This is usually caused by poor sales figures and low community acceptance for the game (to date). Until this status changes, this game will not give you +1 to your Game Collector badge count, appear in profile achievements or any other Steam meta-accomplishments, nor can it be displayed in some profile showcases. If these factors are important to you, it may be worth holding off before buying this game.
Relax hra :)
Binding the "reset everything" key next to the "rotate tile" key was a really dumb choice. Keys cannot be rebound. Audio levels will randomly change after altering them once. Sloppy, sloppy work. Refunded.
5/10 its only 3$ only way i could play this was using a 3rd party program to remap the keys 35 levels - cant play with just mouse - god awful default controls - cant remap keys - f is start and r is reset. it just does it, doesnt ask you...♥♥♥♥!!!!!
Great puzzles, awful programming ruins it
I was on the edge already and originally gave this game a good review out of good will towards the franchise, but after playing level 25 I have to change my review to a negative one. I found the solution quickly and put the stop signs right at the train crossing where it had to be, but still the bus kept crashing into the train. Turns out it was because I had chosen 3x speed. Once I changed to 1x speed, everything behaved as it should. Seriously, how underperformant can your game be, and how ♥♥♥♥ can your programming be that your solution failing or working depends on the game speed you choose to let it run at? I still love the puzzles themselves, but the game is much worse than the predecessor, railway islands. One reason for that is the resource intensity. Where the predecessor game played smoothly with my surface pro 7, this one has the built in Intel Iris Plus Graphics chip operating at 100% permanently, even on the absolute worst graphics settings. And I don't see the reason for it, as the graphics look no different to me than the predecessor game. The delayed mouse movements & stuttering are really annoying. Another reason why I don't enjoy it quite as much is because the dev just used the exact same song as in the predecessor game. Would've been nice to hear sth. else. The most annoying thing about this game is that the dev didn't bother to fix the settings bug that has been around in the first game already. Settings still don't save permanently. When you start the game for the next time, graphics settings will have reversed to a random state. Sometimes you'll be back in fullscreen with 640p resolution, sometimes you'll be not in fullscreen with a random 4:3 aspect ratio resolution. It just refuses to remember your settings. And even though the volume sliders still show at 0%, you hear the music at 100%. What is very annoying as well is that the view you had before trying a solution is not saved. If your solution fails, you revert back to whatever position, angle & zoom level the level has when you start, you need to readjust the view from scratch. Also, the level difficulty is not increasing with each level, it is totally random. Level 15 may be super complicated, then level 26 is solved in 2 minutes. And some levels, like level 27, have more railroad crossings than are needed. In level 28 at the first attempt, the train did not fully exit the level, with the last train car sticking out of the tunnel, leading to a crash with the bus.Overall the 20s levels seem carelessly splurted out. For context, just bought sister game railway islands 2 for 69 cents in the last sale, and I'm thinking about returning it already without having played it because how much much these annoyances ruined THIS game. That I think the game might not even be worth lousy 69 cents anymore.
Busway Islands —
