I don't know what it is about Vic, but this guy knows how to make really fun games. This is War in the East lite. But that is not a bad thing, nor am I comparing it to WitE because it is most definitely NOT War in the East. This is perfect for the Wargamer that would like to finish a Campaign in a week or less versus months. Another bonus I will add, is that since the game is in smaller scale with counters, it has the advantage of having much better A.I. versus any of Gary Grigsby's offerings. Seriously, Vic knows how to program an A.I. It's really damn good and it will try to outplay you as often as it can. Truly refreshing since the offerings for challenging and non-cheating A.I. is really hard to come by in strategy games. They pretty much all cheat in one way or another so the computer has an actual chance against you, which is honestly just pure laziness on the programmer's behalf. Put some actual effort into your code and make a competent A.I. But I digress; DC: Barbarossa is a fun little gem. You have your counter pushing war game, you have some RPG and you have strategy. It's a solid game and worth the full price.
i played this game before having it on Steam if you want something different than usual micromanagement simulator of every soldier, tank and bicycle on whole front, this is a strategy for you - you feel more like a proper general, influencing grand picture of things, creating huge encirclements and affecting thousands, not having to tell each private in which bush to hide meanwihle you haggle with Goering if the fuel will go to your tanks or his planes while getting slighlty roasty letters from very diva-like Field Marshal doubting your ability to give them what they need.....or as a Stalin you can shoot them all, throw another 50 thousand soldiers into a grinder and call it a day great immersive mix of strategy and roleplay elements, incorporating resource management and relationships (and a bit of madness on a soviet side) into a usual warfare simulation
If Your into Accurate Historical War Games, this is for you, not initially easy to get into, but it bites you hard, and pulls you in, so much, you cannot help but want to learn and play, from the historical fall outs of the high command, and subordinates, about logistics, fuel, transport etc, way of waging the war, to the battlefronts, where the battles take place, if you love reading the reports, as I do, from disciplinary measures, in the HQ staff, to all the things that run a campaign, where YOU CAN MAKE DECISIONS, or NOT AT ALL( leaving it to your Head of Staff, if you so please, as you can pick and choose which you think are the most important, helped by your HQ Staff Officer), of course, Hitler, CAN, not always interfere. I LOVE IT, AS THE PEOPLE, DOCUMENTS ETC, ARE TAKEN FROM THE TIME. If you want to know, how operation BARBAROSSA, worked( or didnt ) this is the War Game Sim for you. FANTASTIC, BEST GAME PLAYED IN YEARS, and been playing Historical War Games, since early 1980's. 10/10 Would Thoroughly recommend %110 Steve
Field Marshall - You are needed at the front. We are going to invade the Soviet Union. They are expected to crumble quickly when they taste our steel, as they did in the last war. Your objectives: Leningrad in the North, Moscow in the Center, Rostov in the South. It should be a piece of cake. Like management challenges, war games, and dealing with prima donna generals? Go for it!
After 50 years of playing wargames I have finally found a gaming system that replicates many of the actual decisions and problems of Barbarossa in a way that is 'realistic' and yet does not get bogged down with detail. I loved Russian Campaign as a kid playing board games and this game is far better, more challenging and real.
Strategy game requiring many choices for logistics and politics. Also get to maneuver armies.
Obowiązkowa pozycja dla każdego stratega I najlepsza gra z serii
Just the right balance for me, a casual gamer. Not too complex, and just the right amount of strategy and challenge. Watch the tutorial videos and you're pretty well set to go. 20 hours is about all I can do for most games, but this one kept me engaged for 70 hours, no problem. A great buy, replayable too.
while the system is simplified compared to case blue. the battles are completely unrealistic. losing battle against with encirclement ratios 4:1 is plainly stupid
Any army that just keeps growing in size supply which run out very quickly . Messages from Berlin about nothing using up PP so there nothing left for you to spend on supply or air support est, Two few divisons to cove the front and conscript divisons that don't die even when you attack them with full panzer corps .
