About

Take back the city of Tertium from hordes of bloodthirsty foes in this intense and brutal action shooter. Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is the new co-op focused experience from the award-winning team behind the Vermintide series.
In the depths of the hive, the seeds of corruption threaten to turn into an overwhelming tide of darkness. A mysterious and sinister new force is seeking to take control of the entire city. It is up to you and your allies in the Inquisition to root out the enemy before the city succumbs to Chaos.
As Tertium falls, Rejects Will Rise.

Built on the legacy of Vermintide 2’s best-in-class melee combat, Warhammer 40,000: Darktide introduces intense WH40K gunplay to the mix. Master the balance between ranged and melee combat as you fight through a slew of enemies. Feel the impact of each swipe, swing, and slice of a chainsword, or fry some flesh with a lasgun.

Darktide is a co-op game. Wandering too far, risks punishment by foes looking to immobilize or capture stray Rejects, such as the slavering Chaos Hound or the Moebian Trapper. Once you fall prey to such foes, only your teammates can save you! More than that, your innate toughness – your determination to press on through the pain – only recharges when you are in the proximity of your strike team.

Create your own, unique character and customize their physical appearance, voice, and origin. Choose your class to determine which unique traits and skill sets they will make use of in battle. Will you be a seasoned veteran of the Imperial army, a snarky outsider, or a fiery zealot? The choice is yours.

Step into the violent, dystopian world of Warhammer 40,000. From boiling hot industrial factories to the decaying water maintenance zone afflicted by constant acid rainfall - Tertium Hive is a hard and unforgiving place even at the best of times. Your role is to serve the zealous Inquisition by embarking on missions to exterminate the threats lurking in the depths of the hive city, or die trying.

Adapt to the erratic whims of Chaos with conditions- mutators that add a spontaneous challenge to your mission. Your team must learn to adjust, adopt new tactics and change up their loadouts to face these ruthless challenges.

They are focusing on the wrong things. You could add 100 new classes with skills and whatever, it doesnt matter. What the game needs is actual content. There are like 16 story missions you can play, and some of them are variants of maps you have already played. There is a severe lack of content regarding missions, progression of character, replayability etc. It feels lazy. Don't get me wrong, some things about this game is amazing. Like the combat, gunfeeling etc. Top notch. 100%. But they just don't add the content that really matters. It's a shame.
Nobody will read my review so I Will Eat 1 Tablespoon of mustard For Every Like this gets
This game is a horrendous mix of a GENUINELY super fun and enjoyable game and the worst decisions possible. the gameplay, music and visuals are all amazing, with varied character builds. but then the game itself cant stop ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ the bath at every turn. every update is like 2 steps forward and 5 back, with Fatshark not addressing major problems and glitch's which still are prevalent, such as certain enemies not making the sound to alert you to their presence, or a genuinely anti-player directory that spawns literally 60 of the same enemy in one room with little other variety. not to mention the other problems with enemy design, like carapace being seen as too strong, new shield enemies that look like normal enemies but with more health and armor than even the armored orgyns. or how ♥♥♥♥♥♥ poxbursters are with the aforementioned sound glitch, the hitbox being larger than their explosion, the aggro/stagger of them rubberbanding depending on who their currently running at, or their ridiculous damage. Fatshark doesnt ever seem to listen to feedback so I dont know. despite this games potential, and even ability to be super fun, every other moment with it is pure frustration to no end.
Darktide is a fun Horde Shooter FPS set in the world of Warhammer 40K. You start the game by choosing a class, some kind of background/origin, and creating your character. 4 free classes, 2 DLCs (1 more coming tomorrow), they're all unique, even more since they reworked the entire skill trees. Now with multiple paths, there are a lot of build you can make with a character, and with enough slots to test every classes, you'll have a good playtime before you max everything. Regarding what you play with, you get, a ranged weapon, a melee one, a grenade, and a skill, you can also during the game find on the ground a special item (medkit, ammo pack...) and a syringe (with varied effect). All classes have at least 5 melee and ranged weapons and 3 skills and grenades to choose from the skill trees, so you can build what fits you best. Darktide is not an easy game at first, you get bashed and shot from all sides. But with a system or block/push/parry and dodge, it becomes once you learn all the sound effects alerting you from oncoming damaging some kind of rhythm game that feels really satisfying to play. As a Horde Shooter you'll have to learn what the special enemies do, how to deal with them and how to quickly wipe hordes if you play in harder difficulties. You have multiple gamemodes, between the basic missions of Darktide, the survival waves of ennemies mode and the Havoc (the end-game of Darktide with a lot of game modifiers), you'll have a lot of different ways to test you builds and challenge yourself. I sadly believe that this game is a bit too greedy with its player base, we're not getting enough updates to keep it more alive than it is, and the last packs of cosmetics or classes are blocked behind a paywall, I would have been mad if I was playing Left 4 Dead 2 and I couldn't play Bill because I didn't spend 12 euros, so I even more understand the bad reviews when players are blocked from playing an entire class for a game they already paid. I personally recommend the game, I'm having fun, alone or with friends, but I totally encourage you to get the game on heavy sales, but I think you'll still make it worth your time even if you don't buy the DLCs. On a last note, I always finish my reviews after completing achievements, this time it took me almost 180h, most of them unlocking by just playing the game, but some were pretty tedious to get by how specific they were, and the last one was atrocious, I love achievements that challenge ME, it's fun, what's not fun is when you need to rely on your team to do so. Like completing 100 missions without anyone getting downed. So yeah, very fun game, kind of hard to 100%, too pricey in my opinion if you want all the content, and for the best experience, play with friends, look for a group on the Steam discussions or a Discord. I'm still very hyped for new class tomorrow. But they seriously need to give more for the players with just base game.
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide could be examined in a handful of different ways, and while I plan on going into most of them in this review, there is one that I will not. As someone who could not give a damn about the Warhammer 40,000 IP, world, board game, lore, etc. if I tried, I can not speak to how this game utilizes any of those elements. I will be discussing how Darktide functions as both a game and a piece of software, and anything else will be swiftly ignored. Darktide is a class-based horde killing game from the same developers as Vermintide I & II. If you have played those games, you will know the vague idea of what you are getting into, but if you do not, I shall explain. Darktide is, if you wanted to oversimplify it, Vermintide but with guns. If you wanted to be WRONG, you would just call that description Left4Dead. Darktide takes inspiration from Left4Dead, yes, in a lot of ways, while also adding its own spin on game systems and mechanics. The ways in which it's similar to L4D are pretty apparent: - You proceed through linear levels, with hordes of enemies to slash, bludgeon, shoot, and stab your way through. often to accomplish a certain task that varies per level. - There is your typical variety of trash mob, with a surprisingly large amount of specialist and elite enemies to diversify your opposition, with a lot of overlap from L4D (Spitter = Pox Flamer, Witch = Demonhost, Charger = Mutant, etc). - Witty Banter between player characters to add levity. While this is all well and good, the ways in which it differs from other games in a similar genre is where the game truly shines, in my opinion. First and foremost is the fact that there is a class system. This means that each of the playable characters (4 base game, 3 purchasable DLC at present) have their own pool of exclusive weapons, skill-tree, and "role" in a team composition. There are numerous ways to build a character, and several niches that a player can fit into, depending on their playstyle and equipped weapon(s). I will give a brief overview on each of the 4 base game classes, with their strengths, weaknesses, and overall role here: Veteran is your prototypical soldier class, with heavy emphasis on having your ranged weapon out and firing. On the surface, there isn't really a lot "special" about them, owing to their status as a pretty cookie-cutter dime-a-dozen soldier class, however they have a lot of hidden potential as a ranged cover-fire specialist and a support role in disguise. Ammo economy is a pretty big deal in Darktide, as you are stuck with the weapons you bring into the mission and maintaining your bullets and grenades is huge. Veteran has access to ammo-refund for laser weapons, auto-refilling grenades, a perk to allow your teammates to get grenades back from ammo crates, and a lot more. Zealot is a bit of a jack-of-all-trades class, and you never really know what you're going to get if paired with one. They could be invested heavily in one-shotting high-priority targets and dealing half-damage to bosses with their melee weapons. They could be specced into having a more support role with their Chorus ability, refilling the team's Toughness (Shield HP). They could be built as a pseudo-tank with Martyrdom and additional wound segments. They could be focused on trash clear with their signature flamethrower weapon and throwing knives. There are a lot of options with Zealot, and they are one of the most versatile classes in Darktide. Psyker is the mage class, plain and simple. They are also the hardest class to play in the base game, owing to the way in which they use their psychic abilities and staffs. Any ability or weapon that uses their magic powers adds a percentage to their Peril meter, and if it gets to 100% full and you use a power after that, you go down and need to be revived. You can quell peril by holding the reload button, and it goes down slowly over time, and thus the push and pull of the class. High skill ceiling, high potential, high risk, high reward. Ogryn is... hard to talk about. As the first class that I played, I have a soft spot in my heart for the slab, but if we are being honest, Ogryn is the worst DESIGNED classes in the game, base or DLC. It teaches new players a lot of bad habits, has a noticeable lack of weapon and build variety, and Slab's role in the team is, more often than not, just a one-note tank that doesn't have an X factor. Ogryn has two shotguns, one break action and one auto, two grenade launchers, two machine guns, and an assortment of sticks, some sharp, some blunt. There is a lot of redundancy in these offerings, both in their gameplay role, and in their "feel" as weapons. I have a lot of fun with Ogryn, but it is IN SPITE of the class and not BECAUSE of it. If you, like me, LOVE the "Big Man with Big Stick Do Big Damage" archetype, you will enjoy yourself, but do not be surprised if you run into trouble at some point in your playtime. As a game, that's about as far as I will get into in this review. Now, as a piece of software, Darktide has its own set of issues. As someone who (sadly) is on Intel/Nvidia, I have not had any real issues out of the ordinary, however I have heard that on AMD, this game's performance is atrociously awful. Like, inexcusably so. There have been forum posts, discord threads, steam discussions all about it, and I would be doing this review a disservice if I didn't at least mention it. Piece of advice if you are on AMD would be to pick it up on sale, play a mission, and if your rig can't handle it, refund it. As much as I hate that that is how Steam's refund window is being used, it's about as good as you will get if you have AMD hardware. There are a lot of other details I could go into, but for the sake of brevity I will not. As a game, Darktide is quite a bit of fun, owing to its many builds and playstyles. Is it perfect? Far from. Is it more fun with friends? Yes, but so is everything else. Can it be frustrating? Sure, especially if the game keeps throwing Vanguards and Poxbursters at you until you Alt-F4. But there's something here for everyone, and is why I am recommending it.
So cool pay for the DLC find out the devs made the game unlaunchable again 10/10
**+++ SKITARII COMBAT REPORT +++** **Subject:** *Warhammer 40,000: Darktide* Combat simulation approved by the Omnissiah. Hive Tertium presents an acceptable level of industrial decay and heretical infestation. Enemy resistance is relentless, encouraging proper squad coordination and efficient target elimination. Weapon Machine Spirits respond with exemplary devotion; every las discharge, chainsword strike, and bolter detonation serves the will of the Machine God. Logistical systems occasionally display inefficiencies, requiring additional maintenance rites. Such flaws are tolerable. **Combat Efficiency:** 95.8% **Machine Spirit Status:** Loyal **Heretics Eliminated:** Insufficient. Further deployments required. **Verdict:** Praise the Omnissiah. Purge the heretic. Queue for another mission.
Have to mess around with graphic card or some other crap on PC every single update they do, waste more time trying to play it than actually playing it
There is quite a bit of small-ish things that need improvement, but overall game in in a much better place than it was. Could do with more maps. Could do with technical performance improvement and optimization on middle/lower end rigs. Ogryn could use another weapon or two. The fact that DLC classes don't have commissary unlocks and their overall cosmetic customization is more limited is depressing. Blitz/ability balance is all over the place. There are annoying bugs still present from release time (like teleporting enemies or doors that sometimes are closed for one player but open for others, or matchmaking bugs), although admittedly they occur much rarer than they used to. Cash shop is a bit steep (and to begin with its a cash shop in premium game). Despite above, however, still fun. Unlike the case with some other devs from Sweden, you don't feel like you're artificially barred from enjoying your time with the game because of "grunt fantasy" or some really weird preconceptions about how guns should handle.
