Dark Parables: The Exiled Prince Collector's Edition

Contrary to the listed release date of 2016, an internet search showed that this first came out in 2011. The game shows it's age, as it's older HOG. The clicking mechanics are poor, with mouse clicks on objects frequently don't select them into your inventory, especially during the Hidden Object Scenes. The HINT feature does not appear to work, which complicates playthrough. There is however a player guide on the tool bar which basically spells out exactly what to click and where, in order to proceed. For completists only. This is the second game in the Dark Parable series. There are better Hidden Object Games for your limited time.

This is a VERY tentative recommendation. You have to enjoy old HOGs (13+yrs old) in order to enjoy this game. Even then, I would only get it as part of a bundle on a discount. The story itself is decent, and it has walkthrough in-game and on Big Fish Games if you get stuck somewhere. This is [I]Dark Parables[/I] #2, which is very loosely based on the Frog Prince with a mix of many other fairy tale elements. Once again we get hidden-fragment scenes rather than hidden-object scenes. And once again they are not very satisfying. I found it annoying that sometimes the color of the fragment didn't match that of the cue. However, other aspects of the game are improved enough that I can recommend it this time around. The game map is more expansive and more varied and the story and characters are pushed more into the background. This allows the adventure to breathe. The result is a fairly challenging point-and-click adventure taking place in a large, gorgeous drawn area. I found it quite engaging.
