Short version: 77%
The Last Adagio has almost everything you need for a great hidden object game, from wonderful graphics to many hidden object scenes and tons of extras. Its only issue is the story, which somehow forgets to exist after a while.
Long version:
Let’s admit, there cannot be a better setting than an opera house for a romantic tragedy ghost tale about a vengeful spirit of a composer who torments not just the other spirits trapped with him, but the living as well. This is the world Danse Macabre: The Last Adagio invites us to, through the most common hidden object plot device imaginable: a kidnapped sister. This game is all about atmosphere, especially with its detailed, posh art style, which almost can hide the fact that the story more or less gives up around halfway in, only to eventually crawl into something we may call an ending in the bonus chapter. The Last Adagio is what we can call a decent job when it comes to gameplay. There is a generous amount of hidden object scenes and the adventure game mechanics are relatively straightforward, but neither these nor the conventional puzzles try to be anything beyond acceptably average. The result is entertaining, undoubtedly, but not too memorable.
Game Information "Danse Macabre: The Last Adagio" Collector's Edition is a Hidden Object Puzzle Adventure game. The game was developed by Eipix Entertainment and published by Big Fish Games Studio. "The Last Adagio" is the first episode of "Danse Macabre." Since this is a collector's edition, it comes with extra features that are not available in its counterpart; the standard edition. The Game Review Game Visuals I want to mention that the visuals in the game are nicely done. The visuals can be adjusted in the game's option menu. Game Audio I want to mention that audio for the game is well done. Even though the audio is somewhat simplistic and repetitive. The audio can be adjusted in the game's option menu as well. Gameplay There are four different game difficulty modes to choose from: Casual; Expert; Insane and Custom. There is an interactive map in the game. It allows the player to fast travel between each location quickly. It also indicates that there are tasks that can be completed at certain locations. The interactive map is automatically given at the start of the game. There is a padlock feature that is available to lock the inventory panel in place to make it stationary. There are interactive items in the game. Some of these interactive items may require extra components before they can be interacted with. All interactive items are marked with a symbol in one of the corners. The hidden object scenes consist of the following: Traditional word lists; Shadow items; Find 'x' amount items. Some of these hidden object scenes may require little or no interactions. Most of the hidden object scenes can be replayed in the game's extra feature section. Bubble Popper is an optional mini game that is only available during hidden object scenes. The puzzles are fairly easy to solve without having the need to skip any of the themes. Most of the puzzles can be replayed in the game's extra feature section. There is a collectible in the game: Flower. They are scattered throughout the game for the player to find. There are beyond objects (morphing objects.) They are scattered throughout the game for the player to find as well. There is a bonus chapter in the game. But it can be accessed only after the main story is completed. There are eighteen different achievements that can be unlocked from playing the game. Each of these achievements does come with some requirements that need to be completed before they can be unlocked. These achievements are in-game only. Miscellaneous There are extra features in the game: Bonus Chapter; Bonus Hidden Object Scenes; Bonus Puzzles; Soundtracks; Wallpapers; Concept Art; Souvenir Room and Game's Strategy Guide. Most of these extra features can be accessed only after the entire game is completed. Final thoughts: I have found the game enjoyable to a certain extent. The replay value for the game is low. I would recommend the game but not at the game's full price value.
Danse Macabre is a good HO game. I played on casual mode and it took me 5 hours to complete main game and bonus chapter. HO Scenes were very easy, but a nice touch was the sound of a musical note when you found an item. Puzzles were more difficult and I had to resort to the guide twice to solve them. I was left rather underwhelmed by the story and I'm tired of supernatural themes. Surely devs can think of something new? The game started to drag, so I was glad it finished. Music was lovely and graphics good. 7/10 from me.
I really enjoyed this game, and liked the storyline. The puzzles were fun, several of them quite challenging. Having the ability to set your own custom level was a nice touch, I hadn't seen that before in a PAC/HO game. This one is a keeper!
Highly recommend! Pros .Straightforward, coherent story .Sinister atmosphere .Lovely artwork/graphics/scenes .Enhancing music/sounds .Four difficulty modes, including custom .Mini-map with fast travel .Lockable toolbar .Gears appear when object in correct position for possible use .Intricate adventure play .Easy to challenging hidden object scenes (word & silhouette) .Easy to challenging mini-puzzles .Collectables (roses and morphing) .Bonus chapter .Bonus content .Strategy guide .Average length with bonus chapter Cons .Trite story .Artwork/graphics/scenes weren't always clean and clear in the smaller pop-up hidden object scenes .Found the french-accented english to be immersion breaking .Clunky mini-map Final words (8/10): Really enjoyable game. Setting was beautifully done and used. Appreciated the variety of options offered in custom mode and how they could be changed back and forth during the game. Also appreciated how you could go back to find missed roses from the Extra's scene. Will likely replay.
Another gem from Eipix. This is my perfect game - beautiful scenes and continuous music set in a Paris theatre with musicians and dancers. Intriguing story-line ,doable puzzles and an excellent bubble popper alternative to the HOGS. I didn't want it to finish, (main game took 5 hours) but when it did there are the jokes on the credits and a daft 'how it was made' movie. Thoroughly recommend.
is ok ;)
