Just get the remastered version. That version (Unlike this one) actually works on modern PC hardware.

I get it, of course — it's a classic and a childhood game for many. But for f***’s sake, in 18 years you still haven’t fixed two softlocks that force you to replay the entire level? And this is only the second game I can remember where I had to first drop the difficulty from Hard to Normal, and then from Normal to Easy — because playing this buggy mess full of one-shots is just impossible. Enemies spawn from underground if you try to flank their camp, the helicopter hunts you down even in stealth (because of course you don’t have a rocket launcher to shoot it down), heli gets stuck in a tree and still manages to shoot at you and the armored gunner or sniper can kill you in two hits while you’re desperately looking for cover or trying to sneak around. Final boss fight... holy hell. Two crashes, twenty one-shots, a softlock, and running in circles just trying to survive while reloading or looking for a rocket launcher (on Easy difficulty, mind you).
