EA backported Javelin kernel anticheat to Battlefield 1, so I am leaving a negative review despite how much I love this game. And I do LOVE this game, which is why I am mad. The message you get on a Linux operating system like mine, reads: "The program encountered E111000B at 00003498 during initialization. Wine, Proton, and Steam Deck are not supported by this application!" So that's it then, I can't play this game that used to work seamlessly for YEARS, prior to their inclusion of this anticheat. I was really keen to get back into this game since I saw it for like $2.50 AUD. Anyway, onto my actual review. Battlefield 1 is arguably the best Battlefield game ever made. This is from someone who has played most of the series and most of the best games in that series. This game is one of the best looking games of the 2010s, it has incredible multiplayer gameplay, it has a fantastic array of weapons of all kinds, and while there are some balance issues here and there, overall it's an incredibly fun game. And, something else that's great, this game even supports dedicated servers. It's a Battlefield game, you run, you shoot, but it's easy to downplay just how fantastic everything is in this game. How well-made it is. I don't think there are many shooters that have been made, since the original Doom, that are this meticulous in their polish and simultaneously how advanced the game is. For instance, the game has the same destructible structures that Bad Company 2 had, and this if I recall wasn't even mentioned in the marketing. This is just something the game does, and even better than ever before. Something else that REALLY impressed me, was the server-based debris and other objects, so when you are firing from behind a barrel or something, that object IS simulated by the server and it gets sent to ALL players. For this reason sometimes when you join a game, you might get in and suddenly see a bunch of stuff just randomly blow up, because the server is updating you on the state of objects on the map. It's fantastic, and it's just one tiny detail in this huge cheeseburger of a game. Battlefield 1 seamlessly bridges the gap between, like a more arcade shooter, and something like Red Orchestra 2, with its 32v32 action. It has spectacular maps, I don't even think there is a bad map in this game. Some are better than others? And I think one of the two DLC maps are kinda meh, but overall this game shipped with some seriously good maps, which I think is indicated by the fact that a lot of servers had several maps in rotation as opposed to just having 24/7 '2fort' or 'dust2'. So the actual maps are gigantic. They aren't like, really huge compared to some open world games, but they are pretty much the exact right size they need to be to give every class a chance to do things. And that's one of the genius elements of the game. For example, Scouts get chances to shoot from vantage points all over the map that don't feel like designated 'okay you are a sniper you may shoot from here' locations. As it kind of should be you can basically set up anywhere you want, limited only by your creativity. For instance, you can be in a plane, bail out, parachute onto a tall building and use that as your vantage point until someone dies at your hand and revenge snipes you, or worse. Which also means there's counterplay to whatever deviousness you can come up with, which means that no strategy is ever impenetrable or undefeatable. It feels shallow in a way to just talk about how nice the guns feel to shoot, but it bears mentioning that while many of the weapons in this game have far nicer sights and such than they probably really would in real life, the guns in BF1 are an absolute joy to shoot, and the detail to be found in their models and just how they... work, is legitimately awe-inspiring. They went to all the trouble, to like accurately represent the function of stripper clips, and all the primitive magazines and loading systems that the weird guns from the early 1900s would have. They even deliberately chose a lot of weird or kind of crappy guns to put in the game too, anything that seemed interesting and I think it really paid off, there are SO many cool weapons in this game even when they suck, and most of them tend to be pretty fun to use (except when they suck beyond belief.) Even all the weird gadgets every class gets to play with like trip mines or decoys or whatever, they're all just amazing to use and so creative and interesting to play around. I even absolutely LOVE the dedicated 'gas mask' button, and the fact that gas is such a common tool. It's such a weird and interesting choice. I should note that aside from the multiplayer there are a few short singleplayer segments, but they really aren't anything special. They are okay to play, but I wouldn't recommend you pick up this game because of them. In pretty much every way, in interesting contrast to 'World War 1' and how that war was actually fought, Battlefield 1 is the opposite of stuck in a rut. It's so smartly designed and so well made from every angle, and it completely rejuvenated the franchise in my eyes. This was the shot of adrenaline the series needed to get away from just being like 'modern shooter with vehicles' and it avoided being, 'World War 2 shooter' as well, because when they tried it, we got BFV, which is an okay game, but it's not nearly as good as this one. So I'm very disappointed I don't get to play it again. I don't really want to boot into Windows to play just this one game, and the experience on Linux was genuinely extremely pleasant, and without any tinkering to get it to run.
shot a horse rider with an AT gun and sent the horse flying 90 km away. 10/10 game
Goes 95% off, literally $3.00 How to play: 1. Go to multiplayer server browser 2. Filter to operations (best gamemode in this lifecycle of the game) 3. Sort by player count => join a full server and wait in queue, people leave at the end of each round 4. Get mortar spammed by gooners WARNING: force close "EA Background Service" when you're done playing, whatever that ♥♥♥♥ is, it stays open in the background. On windows CTRL + SHIFT + ESC => search "EA" => kill
Here comes the most fun military game of all time! Welcome to World War One. Battlefield 1 is a fully fledged FPS set in WW1 where you fight for your nation to the death in multiple maps and modes. Either as a soldier, medic, mortar guy or sniper, fight your way through maps to conquer points. Campaign is decent but just a hand holding to introduce you to all the vehicles and classes, the story is pratically non existent. A good reason to play it is for the achievements and a skin when you watch the credits, the message is also very nice considering its EA and they often like to Fortnite-i-fy their games. Cheaters exist a few, but the community i have seen so far has been decently well behaved and reports any weirdos or hackers, this is a must play if on sale even with the people calling you slurs not being banned, in which i heavily dislike. One of my first serious MP games and they basically ban you from playing because you are a low level. How are you gonna get good if you cant play?
One of the best shooters and the absolute best Battlefield I've ever played. While I hope DICE makes another Battlefield of the same quality, I honestly doubt it given the current industry stance. The atmosphere and style are unmatched, and the music compliments it extremely well. Gunplay is great with very few unbalanced weapons/vehicles, but a decent amount of community servers ban them and they are no issue if you play on them. I also LOVE that both sides are portrayed through their perspective in the preround and intermissions instead of strictly through a "good" and "bad" team lens (this only applies to multiplayer I have to add, War stories aka Singleplayer campaigns are Entente-sided, but credit where credit is due to the war stories that portray a good story and play well). But the biggest thing I have to say is great about Battlefield 1 is the optimization. My midrange non-gaming laptop can (albeit with minimum graphics, but gameplay wise they do not matter) run the game with a near smooth 60fps. For a "modern" AAA game, this is sadly, nearly unheard of in the modern industry, but BF1 is one of the few that is that amazingly optimized. I've also met some great people through community servers, but I will add that due to this game being one of the few modern ones without a censored chat, you will also see a large amount of hateful and or toxic people outside moderated servers, but they don't appear that often. The only real complaint I have is the EA app, with it being slow to launch and respond, but even then it has only caused me real issues on my laptop (only being able to launch the game through the EA app, while through Steam its' broken most of the time), which is pretty annoying but bearable, and on my PC I've never had any issues from it.
totally unfair for new players. because its filled with sweaty veterans with no job and no life
EA Games is ♥♥♥♥. It messes everything it touches. It was a great game, but it doesn't launch now. Do I really need to edit lines in config file to run a game that I legally bought? Do I need to perform a clean boot? To disable EA overlay in EA Game? To delete my audio plugins? To reinstall Windows? To launch it in different compatibility settings? Do I need to unplug my mouse because it messes with Anti-Cheat app? I don't think so. More than that - their support doesn't even work. It says: "we understand the irony, but support is not available". Also when I try to login on the website to write a ticket to support, website just doesn't send me 6 digit code on my email. Money grabbing works perfectly tho. All you need to know how this company treats players.
Why is there always some new problem with EA games? Game Keeps Crashing with DX12 Now And thanks to the anti-cheat, I can't even play it on Linux anymore. Fantastic. F**k you EA.
thIS game is great so unbeleivably cinematic very hard game though lotta bum sweats lots of people are very toxic someone called someone the n word five times and got called f slur and r slur so in summary great game would reccomend
First time playing a Battlefield game and honestly, WOW. This is straight-up cinema. The gameplay is so intense and competitive, and the graphics are absolutely mind-blowing—I legit can't believe this came out back in 2016. EA always delivers on visuals, but this went way beyond my expectations.I’ve been diving into both the online multiplayer and the War Stories. The campaigns are amazing and really make you feel the weight of what those soldiers went through. Between the smooth optimization and the competitive vibe, this is easily the perfect game to get into the genre. Overall : 10/10.
