The negative review isn't for the game itself but for the fact that its left broken and doesn't work on modern systems out of the box.Sadly I couldn't find any reliable community patches to get this working either, and as soon as I'd start to get into it the game would crash.
In case you haven't played, you aren't missing anything if you want more story/lore. But if you enjoyed Crysis 1 for its gameplay and want more, then definitely check it out. I mistakenly thought that Crysis Warhead is a sequel to the first Crysis, turns out it isn't. It's not a prequel either as the timeline of the events is parallel with the first game. To sum up the story - you basically play as Psycho after the Raptor team was separated. If you played the original you'll see Psycho at the end who brags about bringing an alien to the ship. What happens in Warhead is that it shows the process of tracking and eventually capturing it. The whole campaign is basically you trying to prevent the Koreans from taking the alien with them. The ending is pretty cool but I would prefer if there was a boss fight against Lee. I mean that guy is the main reason we went through all that trouble. Instead we see Psycho give him a proper ass whooping in the ending cutscene. The gameplay is pretty much the same. Though the nanosuit's hud says " Sykes mod " there is nothing special about it, it functions the same as Nomad's nanosuit. There are however a couple of new weapons and vehicles to play with. Dual wielding submachine guns is pretty cool, not a huge fan of the grenade launcher though. I like how they kept the level design non-linear, meaning you can take different paths. You can in fact miss a lot of areas if you just choose the straightforward path. But I found out that playing on the highest difficulty kinda forced me to explore the map a little more, either to find cover or ammunition and I was surprised that I never saw those areas in my first playthrough. There are also some collectibles that unlock a funny ending. The graphics look great. You may notice a couple of outdated textures on some terrain, but the overall look still holds up. To my surprise it also looks and runs great on the Steam Deck too. Worked flawlessly without tinkering. Played it on " Gamer " ( or High ) settings.

Crysis Warhead. Good ‣ Expands on Crysis 1 story, even tho it's more like a parallel story. ‣ Keeps the manual leaning from the first game. ‣ Keeps the same sandbox elements similar to Crysis 1. ‣ Having Psycho as the protagonist. Mixed ‣ More action/combat oriented. ‣ Very Short. (it's way less than 7h, it took me that long because it kept crashing) Bad ‣ Crashes a lot. ‣ Has some game breaking bugs. ‣ Very outdated and janky. I wanted to play this game because I've played the others and wanted to finish the collection. People glazed it a lot online and i expected the game to be outdated but still fun (which i'm honestly used and ok with that), yet i was kinda disappointed. I don't think it's a really really bad game, but it's one that aged poorly and not worth picking for 20$ or even 6$. I also can't recommend it to other people unless their goal is to play the whole series.
I really like the Crysis franchise, and I decided to buy Warhead on Steam for that exact reason. To me, the biggest strength of this game is that it is a legitimate Crysis experience — something I feel was somewhat lost in Crysis 2 and 3. The freedom of approach and the island environment have stuck with me since 2008 and they are still the core of the experience here. The big issue nowadays is just how old the game is. For me, the game would simply crash out of nowhere, straight to the desktop without any warning. It's an annoying instability, but alright... it's Crysis, and I already bought it knowing its age. At the end of the day, it's still a good game for anyone wanting that raw, original franchise experience, but I still prefer the first one.
9/10 graphics are still great and the FPS mechanics are awesome. Most of the limitations are from players not understanding how physics mechanics play with the game. For example, leaving the silencer on a weapon greatly reduces its range and the overall force that bullets are shot at, similar to IRL, but this means if you don't take off your silencer to do a fight you'll burn a lot of ammo. Overall if you've been a gamer a long time this will be an enjoyable pickup.
It's an okay game not the greatest but not the worst too i would still say give it a try
