About
Explore, gather, craft, fight, and survive the fantasy world with persistent world simulation as an adventurer party. Every part of the world is persistently calculated, environment interacts and changes over time with season and progress. Play alone or play together with your friends upto 8 in multiplayer!
Ever thought of an open-world game where stuff in the background never disappears into thin air, or map chunks don’t freeze with everything in them—NPCs, trees, animals, etc.—until the player walks nearby?
How about an open world where nature and the environment constantly progress with the flow of time into the future, with weather, temperature, and seasons shaping the world as they go, and whatever changes you or the world have made are persistent throughout the entirety of the game world?
For example, the fruits you harvested from a tree would rot and eventually disappear even after you’ve moved away from the area, and the trees would change shape with the seasons and bear fruit again the following year.
Cross The World started as a very ambitious project, an answer to that itch I’ve always felt as a gamer who wanted a game just like that.
The game world isn't procedurally generated. It is 6006x4026(24,180,156 tiles) sized world including ocean chunks on a ground level (z level 0), including multiple underground z levels, that'd be 100+ million persistent tile world.
Game offers Classic mode with features like permadeath and fog of war and casual mode without them.
It's a party-based Roguelike RPG, you can control up to 4 characters or more in your party.
You can choose between 28 classes and 3 races, while some classes can be similar to each other.
Game provides more traditional RPG elements of character progression with levels, exp from combat and quest, active and passive skills, equipment enchantments as well as the well-known open-world survival crafting genre's UI and experience like chopping tree, grass, breaking rock, crafting tools, cooking meals, etc.
Environment features such as temperature, weather, wet/dry/frozen, day and night, darkness and lighting, fog of war, permadeath, and 4 seasonal changes affecting the gameplay.
In multiplayer, you can host the game so your friends can control the characters together.
Everything in the game world runs persistently, nothing freezes and stops progression just because the player is away. Whatever progress or change you inflicted upon the game world will not just stay, but progress over time as well.
This also means there is no loading once you are in the game, switching between two characters, even if they are 500 or 1000 chunks away, is instantaneous.
Level editor you can access while running the game like a creative-mode, in both single-player and multiplayer as a host.
Dedicated modding support from the official developer.
Enhanced NPC behaviors: Animals, monsters, humanoid NPCs participate in routines that more actively reshape and influence their surroundings.
More Season/Biome-related content such as seasonal plants, animals, fish, etc.
This Includes large-scale simulations like animals crossing the continent by change of season, monsters raiding nearby town, mobs reproducing and taking combat each other.
Calendar-based events like Fishing Tournament or Harvest Festival thrown and carried out by NPC AI.
Controller, Steamdeck support.
Powerful and polished level-editor as good as a game engine would.

Looks like a great idea for a game, but it is nowhere near ready to play yet. Random actions seem to make the game crash, and the controls are extremely confusing. The features are pretty expansive, but I think they need to calm down on that and get the basic things working. UPDATE: The dev IMMEDIATELY contacted me for more information about the crashes I was experiencing and got to work on fixing them right away. That's honestly pretty incredible. I have to agree with the other reviewer, if you're not into buying this, it's still worth wishlisting to keep an eye on.
I saw the description and I was like "Hm, I can get behind that." played it for a couple mins and I was a little confused at first as the tutorial is very short and is basically telling you how to build, but there is a question mark you can click at any point for more written tutorial. Also on the character sheet if you hover over items it tells you everything you need to know about the stat/skill. I have had 4 very addicting hour of play at time of review and can't wait to dive in again! Definitely worth keeping an eye on so if you don't buy it at least wishlist it!
A hidden gem for fans of sandbox RPGs! This game really surprised me. It offers an open world with a simulated living environment, and it reminded me of titles like Kenshi, RimWorld, and Dwarf Fortress. The world feels alive with settlements, factions, and survival elements (fishing, trading, diplomacy included!) that let you play however you want. There are many different classes and races, exploring the large map, and it even supports multiplayer. There’s a lot of freedom in how you can roleplay, whether as a solo adventurer, a guild party, or just living day to day within the world. Amazing roadmap ahead and a promised larger world with even more in depth features! The developer is clearly passionate and keeps the game updated regularly. Please support him! For anyone who enjoys open-ended roguelike sandbox RPGs with depth, variety, expansive simulated world and npcs...this is definitely worth checking out. We need to support more games like this. P.S There is also console commands for those who love to manipulate the world to their desires. The commands are posted in the guide section of the steam community.
Playing this game will initially confuse you, but... Let this game lead, wherever it takes you. At some point, you will discover what they intended to convey. Younger days, playing the game meant jumping into the world of the unknown. Crossing the ocean, Climbing the mountain, Conquering the new lands... until you miss the bedtime! That's the emotion that I felt with this game. Whatever you want to do, just try it.
The game shows a lot of promise, and the dev is friendly as well as quick to make improvements and fix bugs. Definitely a game worth keeping an eye on.
At the time of this review. All I’ve done so far is go in and mess around. Next play I will actually play the game as it is meant to be, but As it stands with what I have done and seen. Game has some very good potential! Yes the controls are a bit confusing at times, but dev is actively working to improve and make the QoL changes to better simplify some core aspects. The dev is active in the discord he has made aswell. So if there’s any issues, you can always post them there for him to see and respond back quicker!(also post feedback/suggestions aswell if need be)
Another very great EA indie title! The video intro and pics at store page did very little to tell the contents currently available. There's a basic structure of low/mid/high tier monsters at present stage which is not showed from the store intro. Equipments while not robust yet is still making game enjoyable. What shines at current stage is the massive world, established crafting(survival items) , character progression and NPCs. With contents available currently at 0.6v, we can hope at 1.0 much more.
Cross The World is awesome! One of my relatives gifted me the game for Christmas. I highly recommend it, there's lots to do, you won't get bored, and there are different playing styles and approaches you can use. For example, you could be more into combat or more into a peaceful play style with exploration. I love the many different options for customizing your character. In addition to the stats part of that, it's incredible how the automatic name generator changes the name suggestions based on your player type (male, female, dwarf, elf, human). The only negatives, which are minor, is that the in-game documentation is not as complete as I would have liked. This is more than made up for by the fact that the Discord channel is incredibly helpful and very responsive. If you're trying to do something in the game and can't figure it out, it's likely not a bug but just a lack of info. Simply head over to the Discord channel and ask. The other negative is that the multiplayer feature was still experimental at the time of this review. The good news is that the dev is actively updating this game often and is very responsive in the Discord - it's way better than what the bigger studios are doing in terms of customer help and support. It's still wonderful and beautifully playable as it is! This game is not really too much like Minecraft, but if you like Minecraft you will like Cross The World. It's a little bit like Minecraft on survival mode, but in 2D, and with quests added in so there's a bit of a storyline. You could play it without doing the quests though. It's really up to you what you want to do with it. Cross The World is now one of my 2 favorite games on my Steam library. I definitely recommend it, this game is a bit addictive because there's always something to do and you get to make all the choices of what you're doing with your long term planning. I also like that it's suitable for all ages - I could see many family members all liking it
Game is really well done, it feels rimworld-esque but more focused on direct envolvement. Lots to do lots of class variety lots of progression on your characters and parties end. This has all been while playing solo, but there is multiplayer! The Developer is attentive and responds very quickly to bug issues. I thought I'd give this game a few hours and it turned into 30+ hours and I am still playing on my first run. If you like world building exploring crafting harvesting and dungeon crawling I would absolutely give the game a shot!
Cross The World isn’t just another RPG where you complete quests and level up. It feels like a living world that keeps going even when you’re not there. Time passes, weather changes, and NPCs go on with their lives, which gives the game an amazing sense of immersion. The mix of survival, crafting, and RPG elements works really well. I started thinking I’d just go hunting for a bit, but ended up gathering materials, farming, and making gear because I was running out of food. That’s when it really clicked for me. The seasons and temperature system are surprisingly detailed, and preparing for winter adds a nice bit of realism. The visuals are simple but charming, and the lighting, especially at night or when it’s raining, creates a really cool atmosphere. The music is calm and fits the mood perfectly. What I like most is the developer’s approach to the world. It doesn’t stop when you log off, and things keep changing. That kind of world design is rare in this genre and makes every session feel different. The world doesn’t revolve around you; you’re just part of it, and that makes it feel more alive. It’s still in Early Access, but the direction looks solid and the devs seem to listen to feedback. If they keep it up, this could easily become one of the best living open-world RPGs out there.
